This is a GAON brand cable. It's a product I believe that is called Dry Light or Dri Lite. It's like a loose tube filled with a talcum powder. Our customer drops are gel filled and i hate them so much.
@@user-vh8gs1sw1j We are running POPs using passive DWDM so we have a POP every 15 miles. Also we are running GPON and XGSPON on the same fiber plant allowing us to manage upgrading customers that want it. We would never actually have 1024 customers on the OLT as they describe. Typically our PONS have between 10 and 40 customers so it scales perfectly for us. Also with there ONU having WIFI 6 it makes for not only a decent OLT experience. $100 for a Wifi6 ONU with 4 ports is where the real benefit comes into play. Also forget about the licensing fees with nokia, cienna, etc
I was a telco contractor for 15 yrs and now cable contractor for 3. I've always been baffled how someone can just start an ISP, figure out the logistics of putting their own lines in the air & ground, and somehow manage to get enough customers to sign up without going out of business soon after. I'm guessing the costs to lease space in the same easements as the big ISPs isn't cheap, or for the areas you run your own unique paths/vaults is also expensive cuz of doing locates, drilling, etc etc. I have no business sense, so I guess that's why I'm still just a lowly contractor. Wish I'd taken a different path in life lol.
good to see you out there cranking away - you should get a nice break from the sun and some much needed rain for a few days. always remember by installing fiber you are literally changing people's lives for the better and the impact for small biz is even greater! v positive work you are engaged in - you should get some interns and new hires (thoroughly vetted of course) and start having more people learn the skills - it sure ain't simple or easy but with enough reps. math and network skills pretty much anybody can learn how to do it, they have to want to of course and believe in the mission. think about starting up a referral system if you don't have one already - people will jump on board and word of mouth/unconventional sales can work wonders. when you have time please do an update on wifi plans/protocols/repeaters etc
We are slowly hiring folks it's just a hard place for talent compared to more metro areas. In the very begining we looked at some of the air fiber and long range microwave stuff but nixed it all out. We just provide customers with a normal wifi AP.
You gonna make a video when you get your Princess Anne pop moved over? Curious if you are gonna make any physical network changes when you move from one site to another. Keep'em coming Brice!!
We will be changing the fiber path completely. There are 4 live fibers in that POP. 2 Muxes, 1 Demux, and 1 GPON to another part of town that is leased. The only changes will be at layer 0\1. Nothing will be changed further up the stack just physically moving the equipment and powering it back on.
Still out here killing it Brice. I think about your offer to move up to MD and run fiber quite often. If you ever require any extra sysadmin help, shoot me a message bud. vmware, hyperv, proxmox, whatever your flavor.
Fair feedback. um's is when i'm thinking, uh's is when i'm really thinking or pulling outa my ass. Sniffles is just been sick for a bit. Seth did buy me a microphone that works with us I just gota get it all figured out this weekend. Thanks for watching anyway!
I love how PON is so flexible in that you can put the optical splitter wherever in the cable plant it makes sense. Furthermore I love how you take advantage of that, unlike the telcos who insist on making everything the same everywhere, resulting in installs that sometimes don't make sense or which put big distribution boxes where they otherwise wouldn't be needed.
Very flexible at what point the split makes the most economical sense. This build allows premade cables to all customers but putting the split on the building. Very easy to install and maintain both.
I hate it when I splice that the cleaver is not precise and I have to cut it again or bubbles on the splice and I have to redo again making my fiber wires uneven in length.
Always double check everything, it takes less time than redoing it all 😂 For identification i always mark them when they are still twisted, 1 and 2 normally are the color coded ones and the rest of them are white. When they are all color coded you just need to mark which side does your signal come. With time you'll get all colors and their sequence, I've created a jingle to sing the sequence while I was learning, works pretty well!
Do you have gravel placed below the pit? I always get about half a foot of gravel dropped into the bottom of the hole before we place the pit which seems to help with the water. Also i put about half a foot of gravel into the bottom of the pit to catch gunk before it blocks the drainage holes.
I’ve been doing this for a while now too, exact same setup, just not as many numbers. I am curious however, how much a month do all those numbers and associated minutes add up to? I mean you’re with peerless so I’d assume cheap cheap.
@@briceperdue7587crazy low. What exact product/service do you have from peerless? I’ve asked them countless times under various different companies for just DID and inbound service, they tell me this isn’t possible. I also assume you just have a standard SIP trunk from them? No fancy handoff?
I had Lenny setup as an extension where known sales calls would be forwarded to him. One dude called back 3 times speaking to Lenny for 30 minutes a piece! Crap funny
It's unbelievable that Lenny still works so well today. I recorded every call since 2017 help me figure out what to do with it? I just can't bring myself to delete it.
@@briceperdue7587 I'm sure at that rate you can even *sell* that tbf, but don't delete it! I'm sure you can do something with it, if you're willing to provide free access I mean you can try asking Reddit or so to see, I'm sure some bright mind will tell you a answer.
was thinking, you should see if the company will spring for something like a Milwaukee Stick Transfer Pump to keep on your truck! It would have made quick work of that. Great video too!
nice to be able to use your own fiber for most of that. Back in the mid to late 90's I had to rely Bell/Verizon and Connectiv for all my ds3 and t1 to connect all my pop's in the 3 counties which would turn into a multi company shouting match anytime an outage would occur.
2014 ML350 getting 26MPG. Only supposed to get 24 highway. This is running non stock air filter and liqimoly oil vs what they put in at dealership here which is mobile 1.
When I did campus network design, I specified a 1 inch hole in the box bottom. A box rep once told me the potential problem with a closed bottom box is that near a road the water can become hazmat due to road oil runoff. I used to specify open bottom over gravel, but contractors would skip the gravel and I'd get a box full of sand here in Florida.
you should get some safety cones or a used nynex/verizon cube van - splice in comfort and safety plus consider tax strategy - it would probably be a writeoff #tools #obtainable chinesium
you must pin your hair with something when you are working.. .. you didn't mark on 96 fiber how is nr 1 and nr 2 .. input .. output.. .. on the table it is a MESS with tools .... you are not so organized .... ... why are u working on the street ?? you have permision to block the lane ?? you can clean with BABY WIPES - its the best for your hands.. :((
I appreciate your feedback and I have shaved my hair, and also reduce 25% of my tools required. I am not organized I think everyone is allowed to have 1 flaw ADHD. I appreciate your comment and they all help me.
The way to organize your stuff and most of things on this comment will come with practice! Nevermind the bollocs!. 10yrs as a certified splicer, you learn something new everyday, different people learn different ways/speeds/stuff. Keep learning and keep practicing! And last but not least: stay humble!
@@briceperdue7587 well done 🙌 congrats thats awesome. i just registered to be a isp im excited to get started have been planning on it for a few years now and finally all the ducks have aligned. keep up the content always enjoy your video
this is a super cool idea for a quick pop site nicely done. im just starting my own networks have been planning for years now but finally the stars are aligning.
@@briceperdue7587 More of a want than a need at the moment, all my infrastructure isn't critical since my organization is so small (limiting the cost of downtime) but once we grow It might become a need.
