This tip shows how to provide stability to a 2D plush part without using wire. You will frequently need to make objects that defy gravity like wings, fins, and tall ears. Small to medium size pieces will work with this technique. Large pieces may still need to use wire due to weight.

I also have a written tutorial for this technique here: makeshiftwings...

I absolutely love all your videos! ❤️ Even if I'm not on the sewing area, I think the plushies you make are the most beautiful and complex ones I've ever seen! We can see that you really love sewing and giving life to these characters and that's why your videos are always a pleasure to watch.

Wonderful content! I've been using flex foam for my kigurumi ears, but I never even thought about using felt. Might give it a try... I currently just stuff the foam into the finished ear, but it makes sense why sewing it into the actual seam would increase sturdiness! Thank you for all the good ideas!

Thanks so much for the link to the foam!! i actually recently started using interfacing for "stiff" areas on my plushes, what's your thoughts on that material?
@makeshiftwingsplush
@makeshiftwingsplush 3 года назад
interfacing is fantastic and can have a lot of good uses! only caution would be it can reduce/remove the stretch of minky, so be careful with how it affects your pattern. but it could also work for something like this if you get one that's stiff enough combined with an object small enough, and you wouldn't get the "puffy" effect from the felt or foam.

How would you go about making sylveons ribbons? Im making a plush and stumped on how to make them, would felt still work with such with curvy long thing such as a ribbon ?
@makeshiftwingsplush

from what i've seen a lot of people just sew a rectangle and then put wire in it to pose it :)
