i forgot to mention, thank you for nearly 1,000 subscribers. this is just amazing and I never ever expected my clock channel to get 1k subs. I appreciate it from the end of the world and back
I'm soo glad she made your dream come true!! Happy early birthday anyways!! This one's a very nice older example, love the striking! Hope you have a nice time and take care
Congratulations on your almost 1000 subscribers and Happy early Birthday!! Nice clock. I had not seen one of these before. I have a Hermle Bim-Bam that I really like, but it only chimes on the hour and half hour.
I have a 1939-40 Plymouth tambour with a similarly constructed movement (though it strikes on hours and half hours only, 2 chime rods simultaneously). It has that very same Plymouth Clock Company paper still stapled to the rear door, and has a kind of arch shaped case instead of a Napoleon Hat case. Edit: it also has a pin-pallet deadbeat escapement, similar to a Brocot but not mounted in front of the dial.
Thank you for your information! Yes, at the clock shop that I visited they have 3 other Plymouths in their showroom, and they have one with the same movement that you're referring to. :> They also have another one that strikes just like my clock, but it has a movement in it with a significantly different construction. It's more compact, seems like they updated it from this one. I may have an older model, but I'm not too certain on that.
@@DannysClocks The Seth 89 movements are considerably old, going back as far as the late 1800s(?). Though yours seems to be updated with rack and snail striking and that quarter striking feature, so maybe your clock is from the 1920s upward.
Nice to see another clock video from you again! :) I don't know why, but the tonal quality of that chime reminds me strangely of a very early Junghans chimer... The one where it plays the full Westminster chime at every quarter, followed by a bim bam chime for the number of quarters. In any case, an excellent addition to your collection. And of course, happy early birthday in case I forget on the day of.
Thank you Albano! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really love this one and I'll cherish it for a very very long time. Speaking of Junghans, I may be able to get my hands on a mid-century modern wall clock from Junghans, one of those drop-dial wall clocks with the glass at the bottom of the case which opens up downwards for access to the pendulum and key. The sound of it's chime is fantastic to my ears. It may be just a little higher pitched for your liking, but I'll bet you could appreciate the sound in some way as well. Take care :)
@@DannysClocks Cool! Is it one of those loudspeaker chime ones? In any case, Junghans always had lovely-sounding chimes in their clocks, even the later ones. There's a richness to them that is not all that common. Speaking of rich chimes, I finally got my hands on a HAC Westminster/Trinity tambour, finally! i recently posted it on my clock channel, but honestly, that recording doesn't do the chimes justice... It's such an amazingly full and glorious chime for such a relatively small clock.
Okay first of all, happy early birthday! Second, I'm glad you were able to get this beautiful clock! I know you've wanted one for a while. It's pretty much identical to mine, apart from the case design of course. As for the markings on the movement, they were put in by Seth Thomas, as they are stamped on the 89 movement of mine as well. Overall a wonderful addition to your collection as always C:
