Hi all, I'm a real Boeing 737 pilot and member of PMDGs tech team. It's been a hard choice whether or not to make this video since I am obviously not a totally independant source of information as a member of PMDGs tech team.
However, exactly with this background and having a couple hundret hours on the PMDG 737 in MSFS so far, probably more than any other reviewer out there right now, I thought I could give you "another" insight into the PMDG 737 for MSFS with some information that others just don't have because they don't have the aircraft for such a long time yet and of course because they didn't go through the development process in ways like I did.
I do however want to set something straight right at the beginning: I am neither on PMDGs paylist, nor have I ever recieved money from PMDG for the work I volunteer as tech team member. This video has also not been sponsored or in any other way paid for by PMDG.
It is as independant and hopefully as neutral as you can get with my background. I will of course leave the final choice to you, the viewer!

“Quick (2 hour) Review” Jokes aside, your tutorials were the only reason I bought the PMDG. Your in depth explanations really add a new level of enjoyment. PMDG should have you on their payroll. Your review sold me on this aircraft. Being a private pilot, I can appreciate the immersion running checklists like in real life. But I will wait for the dash 800 to come out. I have been in the jump seat back in the early 90's and traveling as a passenger--and when you spooled up the engines for t/o, the sounds brought me back into the airplane again, like I was there. My hair stood up on my arms. The sounds are so spot on and with the bass turned up I "felt" the engines. Great job to YOU and PMDG on this aircraft!

I'm flying it since yesterday and it's very good. This is ZIBO level. To me the most important was VNAV and proper descent calculation and it's perfect the level of ZIBO and Toliss form X-Plane 11

I'd actually say it's quite a bit above zibo level. Modelled much more in depth. The zibo is quite good, no doubt about it. But when going into details it's still a bit behind the PMDG. Which can of course be expected comparing an (excellent) freeware aircraft vs a payware aircraft.

I disagree, the 737s rudder is that sensitive. You need to be very careful on the pedals not to oversteer. In real life as well you only make minimal inputs.

You won't be disappointed! Maybe try the 737-600, it offers the same level of system depth and comes at only 35$! I tend to say it's probably the best value for money you can get in the flight sim market - most certainly in the high end market - at the moment!

Thank You for taking the time. When you fly exclusively in Virtual Reality like me. Those texture details are very important to keep you immersed in the experience. For example, the bad texture on the outside of the door once you close it was disappointing. I LOVE PMDG and wish that they come thru with optimizing the overall look and feel quality. Also, the buttons with lights inside the cockpit can use some work. It can only be perceived in VR, on a 2D screen they look fine. PMDG, give me detailed textures and 3d modeling everywhere that is visible, even the cabin, give me full systems emulation including all the fuses and weather radar and charge me $300. I would pay it happily.

@@A330Driver You need to try it at some point. with the right hardware and correct settings to get a smooth and high graphics experience, You are literally there inside the plane. I could never go back to flat screens.

I plan on such a video about the HUD, but I first have to find a pilot who is actually flying a 737 with a HUD who can instruct me on how to use it. My airline doesn't have HUDs in our aircraft.

Great review, and enjoying your videos. Thank you for your hard work - videos like this take a lot of time and effort. Do you think we will eventually see a multi-mode navigation radio come to the sim? I thought I read a couple years ago that PMDG was hoping to bring this in the "NG3". I'm not as familiar with the 700s but I know some operators have them equipped in the 900s.

Yes, the MMR will come. Most likely with the -900 release since especially the -900ER had them almost exclusively. The option will be reverse compatible with all other versions of course.

Thank you for all your Videos and input. Unfortunately i am stuck in the moment with that ground handling. I am using the Thrustmaster TM TFRP Pedals (the cheap ones) and cant get them to do what I want. Got the sensitivity to -85 still not satisfying. Only when I push the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro forward it might work. But not all Airports are modelled well so you have bumps and more. Plane goes right and left and it is hard to get him straight on the centerline. Same while landing. I also have the Trustmaster Captainset for Airbus. So I will try it with that Yoke.

Great stuff, AMAZING tutorial. I am a bit bummed if PMDG release the MAX version where you have to pay the full price even if you own the 737-700. For me, I wouldn't have bought the 700 with the "old" equipment and logic if I knew the MAX is also in PMDG's roadmap haha.

I've seen the wing vibrations just like these many times in conjunction with mild turbulence and wing flex, perhaps not in completely smooth air but it doesn't take much air disturbance to see some vibrations like these

"Some vibrations" yes - but not quite like those you see in the PMDG at the moment. It's just not natural movement, but looks very mechanical.

Few mild issues, but absolutely loving it. I cant believe how well it performs i get a nearly locked 60fps. Not sure if its the Sim wind data or what, but during cruise i get constant throttle ( 1-3%) and tiny pitch/roll adjustments regardless of weather.

@Anish Gupta I did edit post may need to reload page. It’s well worth the money, if you’ve never owned a PMDG Aircraft before they are second to none, what shocks me is how well it performs, in previous sims you took at least a 40% hit to FPS.

@Anish Gupta there are no acars in the p3d version and wx rdr wasn't even possible until as came along and that shouldn't be an issue in the next update when the wx api is exposed for third party devs. What else are you missing?

The A/T is over-sensitive, that's something PMDG will have to have a look at. The AP is just reacting to MSFS's stupid turbulence engine. Not a lot that can be done about it.

Hello! Great stuff! One question though. During the automatic GA, did you manually pitch down not to overshoot the altitude set? I have a feeling that this plane has a tendency to overshoot low altitudes

Indeed it has, that's something that got broken with SU9 just days prior to the release. I believe PMDG is working on a fix.

Hi Emanuel, thanks for a another great video and review!! I have to disagree according the best freeware out there. For me it is the Zibo 737 but I think that FBW have similar goals for the future. I have a question. Do you know how to assign the fuel cut off switches? I have a 737 throttle and would like to assign it. No success so far :-( Thanks again!

The zibo is definitely very good as well. If it's better or not than the FBW A320 is something I'll leave for someone else to decide as I don't have enough experience with the zibo. If the default sim commands don't work then I would not know another way. But try posting in either PMDGs forum or sending them a support ticket, maybe they know more!

You mean the autobrake RTO setting? It would do nothing and two seconds after touchdown the AUTOBRAKE DISARM light would come on.

Admittedly, I was a bit surprised the flight deck door wasn't animated so you could open it. That to me feels like a really basic thing in an aircraft model such as this one in 2022. Even more so when the jumpseat has been animated but not the door to the flight deck 🤔

Weird. In the MSFS version I don't hear the vibrometer. Is this normal? I assume the vibrometer is included as that is indeed part of a 737 NG.

In those aircraft with the analogue standby instruments it is of course included. ISFD equipped aircraft won't have it, as in the real plane.

According to Flightdeck2sim (another 737 pilot) the trim is too slow when flying at low speeds, and the aircraft feels a little too passive, a little too much on rails. Also steering is a little too jittery on the ground (as is the case for most MSFS planes). I've never sat at the controls of a real 737, so I have no way toconfirm any of this. I'm really enjoying the plane, and I'm sure certain aspects of it will be omproved over time. Thanks for your review!

When you said that MFS is optimized for single engine Cessnas, that was it for me. I had considered buying this and MFS. I have many thousands of hours in the real airplane, and I am not interested in a dynamic flight model for single engine piston recreational aircraft. There's no way I would pay $70 for a nice product like this that sits on top of a non-pilot "gamer" platform.

Well, from a real life Pilot standpoint ANY home sim is a game. None is even close to a full flight sim. You simply can't use ANY home sim for any kind of training of your hand flying skills. What you CAN use those sims for is to practice procedures, review memory items, etc. And that works pretty well in this sim.

As someone who drives a pushback for a living Capt set brakes I need to call mtx I just oversteered the nose (On your second try to push back into the stand) First try was actually decent I think you could of got it in had you gone back out and then pulled back north a little more then you did. I must say though your review now makes me question my self for saying I will wait for the 800

Good day, mate. I have a question here. I found out that control stuffs like spoiler, throttle lever with mouse, it's quite slowly. when I hold left mouse button and drag it, it is very slow, and mouse scroll as well. I think it is normal on mouse scroll but hold left mouse button and drag it that slowly, maybe need a little change on that just like other planes, I know pmdg help us for better adjustment, I have read it from that pdf file. but I think maybe one of both choices need to be changed or pmdg has left us any way to set it on our own. I'm just asking and sorry for a Chinese's bad English skill. thanks to you and your kindly helpful videos and pmdg team. by the way, you should be paid coz of your videos.

This will be my afternoon lecture for today :D I love the 737, but it's so hard to get the same controller input sensitivity than in P3D's version of the 737. No matter how low the sensitivity is set in MSFS, it just doesn't feel like a plane :/ What are your settings (I am also using the TCA Boeing Yoke Pack)

I think I probably need to see your hand flying tutorial :D The pith on the approach is extremely sensitive, perhaps a trim is needed. I am looking forward to the hand flying video then :)

@@SplashTubeMc i feel the same way, not trying to be a party pooper now, but all the planes in msfs are very pitch sensetive compared to "x plane". And very static aswell when climbing. I was climbing about 2000fpm to cruise level without ap connected, went to the bathroom for maybe 5 min and the plane held the same pitch/speed and rate of climb which may be realistic but i dont think so. Again not trying to compare or say one is better or not just giving feedback.

Weird, I just got the TCA Boeing yoke today and it has vastly improved the handling of the aircraft in comparison with my A-10 warthog stick. It very much feels like a real airplane, and I am comparing it to what I think are really good handling planes of DCS (F-14, Viggen etc), of course 737 is very different, and I am not a real pilot, but the arcadey, not feeling like a plane comments I read here and there, are not justified, at least when you use a proper Yoke.

Turned the FD ON (on the respective side at least, rather on both sides) and selected modes? If the switch is on but no modes selected the FD won't show.

The ANP shouldn't start at the final value once the IRS are aligned. It should rapidly fall from a much higher value. Has this been reported to PMDG?

"Rapidly" meaning in a matter of a second though. Yes, it is in the bugtracker already, but really not of a high importance. Personally I'd like to see the engine start sequence improved a lot more drastically. It's probably the worst thing about the aircraft. Seriously.

I have a weird little problem, when I have pushback done and about to start the taxi my airplane won’t move even when all brakes are realesed don’t know if it’s a bug or something with the toolbar pushback? I use a Xbox controller but that doesn’t matter I guess?

I had pretty smooth conditions in my video. If you had rather turbulent conditions it would be quite a bit less smooth.

I'm actually pretty happy they don't look like a museum airplane. I often felt that earlier iterations of flight sim addons looked much too used.

PMDG's greed with the initial release of the -700 is completely unacceptable. It's also no better than the Zibo. I will never buy from PMDG for these reasons.

Have you even tried this? It is lightyears better than Zibo. This plane actually makes msfs feel like x-plane. And Have you tried Level Up 737? Also better than Zibo.

@@donochetti2177 of course not, I'm not giving these scammers any money. How can it be "light years" better than the Zibo? It's 95% identical. That extra 5% can not count as "light years".

@@braeddie I don't think it should be free. I just think the transparent greed of initially only releasing the -700 leaves such a sour taste that I won't entertain the idea of purchasing this or any other release.
