Very nice!! Buttering the bread!! A lot of people from videos that I’ve been seeing do not flare at all or flare way too much and end up floating. This was perfectly done, very nice demonstration!!

The right flare really depends on getting the right angle and the right timing. Flare too early or too late and you can forget about that landing.

As a career airline pilot with decades of experience,my only differing advice is that people should learn to land accurately by looking at the tdz rather than at the end of the runway. Depending on weather, you may not be able to see far enough down the runway to use that technique,whereas the tdz will always be visible during manual landings.

yes it's interesting - we teach new pilots to do that which we do not do ourselves.

I tried to disengage AT before landing which causes aircraft to stall, and landed before the runway 😟 after watching the video now I know how to do it. Thank you Captain, going to fly back from Jeju to Doha again on my PMDG 777

Thank you Emi, you have been such a great voice for helping me and others to transition from default to more advanced aircraft. For me it is the right balance of step by step advice and context, on why pilots operate the systems the way they do. Thanks a lot! Grüße aus Hessen.

Dear Emanuel, thank you so much for everything you have done for the community. Questions, "Why does flight simming give you so much pleasure when you can do it for real in your profession? And don't real pilots look down on amateur flight simmers?" Michel
@A330Driver
@A330Driver 2 месяца назад
Hi Michel, first of all: Thank you so much for your support! It's hard to explain why flight simulation is still a hobby of mine. It used to be back in school and until I finished my flight training, after that it changed a little bit into a rather dedicated focus on testing (which still included flying lots of sectors though). I guess it's hard to drop a hobby. Well, though I would never have done those four sector real life days in the sim. lol. By now the hobby has shifted again, from the pure flying and testing aspect to the filming aspect. I think it's half flight simming, half running the channel these days. Both are fun! I wouldn't say that pilots look down on flight simmers, not at all indeed. But of course pilots often see the hobby in a different way than simmers do. I'd say for many pilots, flightsimmers are people with a dedicated hobby and many pilots are impressed how much time and effort simmers dedicate into learning what we do as a job. Of course, sometimes sometimes I catch myself with a smile on my mouth if someone says he could land an airliner in the real world as well. We know they probably couldn't. But hearing that they are so enthusiastic about our profession is still inspiring. Why would we look down on simmers though? We know it's a game and they are probably very good at it. The game is not the real world though. Sometimes some simmers forget a little about that, but hey, it just shows their enthusiasm and that's great, isn't it?

Thank you so much for the tutorials Emi. You taught me how to fly the B737 and now you are doing the same with the B777. A question about landing - as a beta tester did you ever experience problems with manual braking on landing? I have had a recurring problem with a failure of manual brakes after disengaging auto brake. This has led to runway over-runs. I think it may be associated with flying a flight that was previously saved and restarted. Do you know off this is a known problem for PMDG? Thanks for your advice.

I know it's a very basic thing to not know but how do I best counter a crosswind component? I always touch down left or right to the center line. Really appreciate your tutorial series :)
@A330Driver
@A330Driver 2 месяца назад
As the 777 is so long, you need to offset your cockpit into the wind on final approach. So with a crosswind from the right, your cockpit should be place slightly to the right of the centerline. In the flare, when you use the rudder to align the plane with the centerline, you will then "push" your cockpit back to the centerline.

Hi Emanuel, Thanks for yet another triple 7 tutorial. I am about to watch them all. I just bought this beauty of a plane and at this very moment I am doing my first flight. So I have a small question for you. Since I pressed ToGa and started my takeoff roll, the left EGT temperature box turned red. What does that mean? I am now climbing towards my cruising altitude and the EGT on both engines are pretty similar. Though the box around the temperature is still red. Not sure what to do here. Have a great day Emanuel and thanks in advance for answering my question.

But do you correct the position on the glide slope in real life with thrust i.e. add thrust if you are lower and in that manner should pitch corrections only to be used to correct speed on the approach? Coupled with thrust correction of course to stay on the glide if you are correcting airspeed 🤔
@A330Driver
@A330Driver 2 месяца назад
Always correct the glideslope with the elevator, never with thrust! Controlling altitude with thrust is a technique some clubs teach, but nothing you'd do in professional aviation.

Tnx 👍 that's what I wanted to know, tried both ways in the sim and pitch4altitude is more intuitive than thrust4altitude on the approach.

hey man, ur knowledge and inputs are like pearls of wisdom. not a second goes by for me without learning something new. i know you might be busy but do you mind helping me with an issue? i have recently purchased the thrustmaster TCA yoke and needless to say i am impressed. however, there is a lingering nuance in the input when i steer it to the left, as it somehow tampers with the camera(both cockpit and external) and it makes it impossible for me to stay in focus of the runway when i am manually flying+ taking off. it only happens with the left input and i have tried resetting to default but nothing has worked thus far. i found a forum on a similar issue online but there doesnt seen to be a solution. do you mind helping? please could let me know, i truly appreciate it. cheers
@ruven8413

by tamper, i mean it translates the cockpit camera gradually and diagonally to top right, and in the case of external cam it rotates around the plane like a maniac

Hi Emi, What's the difference between idle thrust and idle reverse thrust ?
@hypoxia_lover
@hypoxia_lover 2 месяца назад
Idle thrust is lowest amount of thrust an engine can create, idle reverse thrust is the same percent thrust, but the reverser is unlocked and a portion of the total thrust is propelled forward.
@joshfredr7846
@joshfredr7846 2 месяца назад
@@hypoxia_lover Thank you.
@A330Driver
@A330Driver 2 месяца назад
On top of what @hypoxia_lover has already said, the advantage of idle reverse is that the reverser is immediately available if you need it. I don't have numbers from the 777 here, but in the 737 the engines would run down from approach idle to ground idle two seconds after touchdown if reverse was not selected. From ground idle to maximum reverse would take up to 17 seconds. If you kept it in reverse idle, it would only take 8 seconds. That's a HUGE difference, if the end of the runway is approaching quickly!
