I have one of these sets, i really like it, good build quality, feels sturdy and easily does the full 4 watts and 2.5 khz deviation. Small and easy to use too. 10/10 from me at £69

The USA don't allow multinorm radios, so there is no setting to use multinorm radios in the USA. However, if you are listening from the UK in the hope of hearing Americans on skip, well you set the radio to CEPT AM. Richard, G0OJF, UK
Coulda just done a voice-over on the "Silent Film". :-) Seems like, if S9 is a "good signal", wouldn't you want S9 to light 4 bars on a 5-bar display like this one (ignoring that the bars are dressed up as a group of bars)? Really strong signals would light up the 5th, and you'd still be able to quantify weak signals ... as much as you can quantify with a 5-bar display, anyway. Actually, even with strong signals "flickering 5th bar" could be S9+10 (in CB not engineering) and "solid 5th bar" could be S9+20 (or 30).
