I uploaded this on my 'community' page a while ago but for some reason RU-vid gives no exposure to those posts when they include a video, and sure enough this only gained a miserable 5 views in 9 days, and I think two of them were mine. So even though the content is not properly explained yet, the lack of attention is leading me to set it as a normal video to get some more dopamine from views. Please pat me on the head and tell me I'm clever.

Impressive! Not sure which I'm more impressed with, the 3d graphics preview software view, or that it's actually working in sync.

Yeah the graphical view was mainly a gimmick, and only occurred to me because I have an accurate CAD design for this machine and I can export the models from OnShape, but once the 'preview' feature came along it really helps to visualize the movement. Simple lines and dots give no depth perception (unless they're moved around a bit).

At the fastest points in this video it gets to 800mm/s. I designed the machine to be comfortable at 1000mm/s or maybe a bit more, but I'm realizing the jerk and acceleration limits would need to be much higher in order for it to actually reach that speed, and even then it would only happen on quite long movements. Still, the speed it's going now is perfectly fine for what I want.

Interested to see how you did the cad preview controller - I am interested in a cnc foam cutter project and it would be nice to see the preview before committing.

Yes, I'm thinking this will be open source, primarily for Linux, and most likely MacOS too but as a lower priority. libuvc seems to be not so well supported on Windows, so I have no plans to maintain a Windows target at this point.

Very cool, are you using Dear ImGui? If so which renderer, Vulkan or something else?

Yes, I'm using glfw for now, so it can run on my Raspberry Pi 3B. The nice thing about ImGui is the backend can be changed fairly easily.

I should mention that running the GUI on a Pi3 is not the intended usage, it's just for experimenting and feeling the boundaries. A Pi3 is perfectly capable of running just the server (real-time motor control etc) but it would not do the GUI at the same time at any reasonable framerate, and Pi4 is not a whole lot better. I suspect a Pi5 might be ok to run everything but I don't have one to check.
