In this video I try out a Harbor Freight Pnuematic Air Dent Puller. My 1962 Dodge 880 has several large dents on the roof. I'm skeptical that this will work but figured it was worth trying. People had recommended this tool to pull dents. In this case I want to try and avoid pulling the original headliner as it would likely get damaged.
Watch the video to see how this tool works and if it's worth the money/effort.

That car is such a beautiful color, and the paint is in incredible shape. She’s definitely worth saving and trying to get the dents out

Enjoyed the video! Harbor freight sells different lines of tools from home-owner grade to professional grade. "Central Pneumatic" isn't one of their best grade tools.

Generally I haven’t had any issues with harbor freight tools. I’ve had one of their floor jacks for a decade and works just like new. This one however… not too great of quality with it immediately breaking with gentle use.

You could probably do just as good with a double action force cup, AKA deluxe toilet plunger.

Maybe so!

I bet if you got the surface super clean, a better angle of attack, and worked around the larger dent it might eventually get most of it out..def not the creases tho. At the least it would be a good upper body workout. Weird how the roof got so hammered. I had PDR done on my old mustang and the tech did say it was a lot harder to get dents out of the older thicker gauge metal. Harbor Freight...where hopes and dreams go to die.

A good idea but Harbor Freight was short on execution. A plastic slide hitting against plastic doesn't give much force as you showed. But, the suction cut couldn't stand more force anyway. Good informational videos. Plane noises - when I lived across the lake in Bethlehem (Alexander County), there were always planes that sounded like that going over our house, landing and taking off at what we called Bethlehem International Airport. 😀

The tool needed more suction. It's a common complaint anywhere you go.

Thanks for sharing! I bet that tool was designed for thinner sheet metal…

Buy yourself a brand new plunger clean the paint smooth that's basically what that tool is They also sell a dent puller suction cup for much less than that contraption

What's the pneumatic part supposed to do, it looks like a fancy slid hammer. Did they also hope to sell a compressor and air hose?

You turn on the air so it forms suction to the panel. Turn it off to release.

@@ObsoleteAutomotive I thought it was strange that the suction cup had a hole in it.

I cannot figure out how this works. What is it connected to? It seems like a compressor will not seal it to the car. Is it connected to a vacuum pump somehow?
@ObsoleteAutomotive

It’s connected to an air compressor. The valve and design create a vacuum for suction at the rubber cup.

I have found Harbor Freight’s tools are cheap crap. Some of their lesser tools screw drivers are adequate as emergency seconds. Otherwise Austin your videos are excellent!!!!!

I figured this video would show people how well the tool worked to save them from having to spend any money or time with it! And it did get the shallow dents out. So would be okay for that purpose but any serious dents forget about it. Not to mention the tool broke immediately! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'm skeptical too but maybe it'd be better if you were on a ladder above the work???
@ObsoleteAutomotive
@ObsoleteAutomotive 16 дней назад
Tried that. Theres a ladder out of frame. The thing just didn’t have enough suction to stay on.
