I did a few tests with the polyphony... Looks like the PO20 can pump out The drone and 15 of its sounds at the same time on a single beat. The only mutually exclusive sounds are #1 (Bass) and #3(snare). That's quite the polyphony.
That was a big part of why it was the first PO I bought. I was very intimidated by the micro kits on the others before I got them. Even now I sometimes curse how limiting the micro kits can be on the other units. EDIT: I've seen some videos of a guy that uses two of the same POs at the same time, it's pretty insane. Two 20s could do some amazing things.
Fun! One of your comments reminded me: unlike several others, the PO-20 Arcade can also retrigger *melodic* sounds (in addition to the drum sounds). After having used that feature to get 16th notes when compressing 2 measures into one pattern (Arcade was my first PO), I was surprised to discover that my PO-133 could *not* retrigger my melodic sounds.
I forgot it could do that! Now I'm kicking myself for not including it in this video haha, guess I'll just have to make another one. Thanks for watching!
I just got my po20 n i hv no music experience at all. Just wanna play around and maybe start learning. Do u think its a good tool to begin with? Or Do u recommend me to learn some basic music theory first? Watched several of your po20 videos abs I hv to say u play it so well and the tunes are reali nice and catchy!:)
Digging your channel. Very informative and enjoyable. I recently got K.O. and Sub for my kid and we are having a blast trying to recreate some of his favorite tunes or creating new ones. Later I ended getting Rhythm and Speak. Now thanks to your videos I have my eyes on Nu:tekt NTS-1 and Arcade and will probably get Tonic at the end. Can you recommend any other small form factor, portable, similar price range gear that would go well with Pocket Operators? TIA!
Glad you're having so much fun with the PO's! I'd recommend looking at one of the Korg Volcas, they've got a great price to performance ratio. Definitely pick up the nts-1 first though, it's amazing!
I got my po-20 this weekend, is there any way to adjust volume levels on sounds? I tend to avoid the hihat for example because it seems ridiculously load compared to other sounds.
Oh boy haha that's a tough question! I'm not exactly sure. The Office is my favorite, the Tonic is the most professional, but the Arcade is the most complete. I think it's a tie for me hahaha
Nice jam and it really does have some depth. I love video games and play daily. But the video game sounds I don't like for music, so I'll probably skip this one.
