Hellooo Marshall!! Just a suggestion... Ask employées around if the crowds arrive much later, finding out as well the time they're open until. Much of the attraction in these places are the crowds and the added opportunity to people watch (and vice versa). Your social life might just get a little lift if you readjusted your arrival and departure habits. You must be open to the opportunity it presents though.

Thanks Marshall for showing us around with your city tours. Glad that Poblacion is getting back to a more upbeat aliveness. Just live close by to it and everytime I pass it during pandemic lockdowns, I notice that the restos and bars have started opening up. Tho it couldn't compare to the vibrancy and noise it used to be before the pandemic. I remember then the heavy traffic and crowded streets especially on Friday nights where majority of city people converged into this bustling busy enclave in the heart of Makati. Poblacion is a must-go-see for many fun-loving people especially those working in the city. And, all the hotel rooftops have fantastic views at night.

only 3 spice oysters for 350? wow thats expensive, I think they should have made it 4 or at least 5 oysters. ..hmm lots of interesting bars in poblacion.

Marshall, where in your opinion would be the best reasonably-priced place in Manila to sit down and write a book? A place to be mostly undisturbed while being professionally catered to with a pleasant tropical atmosphere to relax in between writing sessions. Maybe a nice pool. Smart people stay there. Something like what the Raffles Hotel in Singapore was to Somerset Maugham. Is there any far less famous place in Manila, perhaps off the beaten path, that reminds you of that? The sort of place where maybe only a writer or thinker or philosopher would recognize was great. Less-expensive long-term rent.

My son and his family live in a condo in poblacion and I normally book a dorm at the Zula which has nice curtained-off beds with cool shared bath rooms. They serve free to-go breakfast.

Eating Japanese food that are not really prepare by the same ingredients result different taste. Even they call it Japanese food or Japanese introducing the food. Twice I eat in Japanese restaurant in the Philippines And I found out they don't use expensive Mirin, and sake ,and they don't use expensive ingredients. The taste is far from a Japanese cheap restaurant in Japan. ,And even in my cooking it will never past. It means wasting money if you can cook better than them hehehe...They call it pride.
