@@FelixS.im so tired of this one mans remake is another mans remaster is another mans reboot is another reimagining is another who caresss, like does anything change if people call it one thing off hand.
Same. Those were probably my first RPGs ever, give or take Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I appreciate how straightforward they are, like a good introduction to RPGs compared to bigger name games.
Man, Pocky and rocky was one of my favorite games that I sucked at as a child, I definitely never even came close to beating this game but I loved playing it.
This one just absolutely nails it! Really wish Konami, Capcom etc would do something similar. So many classic SNES games that deserve to get the full treatment, like Castlevania, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Axelay, Parodius, Ghouls n Ghosts, Mega Man, Super Aleste.
I would love to see every single one of these get a modern treatment. Mega Man kind of has that already with 30XX over on Steam, but the rest? Heckin' yes!
I've had this for a while, and while all the upgrades are definitely well done, I just can't tolerate a top down shooter without twin stick controls anymore, it never stops feeling like a handicap.
Pocky & Rocky 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, and these two games together played a huge part in getting me interested in Japanese culture, history, and mythology. I never imagined any of the Kikikaikai/Pocky & Rocky games would get such a loving remake, especially after what happened to the PS2 sequel back in the day, and I was so happy when this was first announced. It might be a little greedy of me, and it's probably a pipe dream either way, but I really hope 2 gets a remake as well.
Yeah while not terrible, I was still pretty disappointed by the Trials of Mana remake and wish I'd just gone instead with the 3-in-1 Seiken Densetsu Collection
I really was disappointed about the 2 player co-op option being locked until you beat the game once. I think this was a bad design choice... BUT I was happy that the devs at least put in a cheat code to unlock it from the start. The game is really fun and worth playing multiple times.
Yeah, that is an odd choice. Some of the design choices in these remakes are pretty random, like in the Wild Guns remake, they had it so when you played multiplayer you only get three lives max to share, and only a few continues. If if you lost those you had to restart the whole game, not just the level. I don't think even the original was that hard!
Also even after you unlock 2 player, there doesn't seem to be a way to play story mode with 2 players. So you are left not being able to save your progress in a two player game.
I bought a physical copy for myself and my sister a while back I like Pocky and Rocky it's such a cute game I remember playing The originals on emulator.
I mentioned this on Twitter, but I bought the SNES Pocky and Rocky back in December because of your review on the original. But I also bought the physical copy of Reshrined at the same time. I was not disappointed. These games are super fun and extra fun to play with a friend.
Pocky and Rocky was my favorite game as a young kid. I used to make comics and write stories about it on construction paper and staple it together. I actually had no idea about this remake until watching your video. Huge thanks!
This looks awesome! Pocky & Rocky was one of my favourites of the SNES era; it had the most wonderfully cute graphics and, as you said, a fair difficulty.
Really happy to see this covered as I picked up a physical copy on sale last year and haven't had a chance to play it but was always curious how well done it was. Looks like I should have had faith (and also pick up Wild Guns Reloaded).
I would argue that there are only 2 legit ways of awesomely recreating these snes masterpieces. One is this style, the other is the treatment the Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana Series) got. The last one is prefered if the devs want to go 2d to 3d but if 2d to 2d is the intendet strategy than pocky and rocky or -just to name a similar well work- the super ghouls and ghosts remake or the tmnt in time remake. All of them great snes remasters and all well recommendable (even to none snes nostalgia folks).
If anyone is wondering what this tango project stuff is about. It's old natsume developers back together remaking some of their old games, and they are not missing a beat. They already remade Wild Guns, Ninja Warriors and Pocky and Rocky. And all of these are amazing, seriously they were made with so much care.
Wow, looks incredible. Something about the cute and fluid movement reminds me of metal slug 3. Hows the sound? The original 2 games had great sound fx. That was something my girlfriend commented on as I'd be playing the first one on SNES while she'd be falling asleep. She said the sounds were soothing despite how chaotic the gameplay was.
Thank you for this video, this title could have been made any more gorgeous! Also looking forward to that possibly Shadow of the Ninja video, hopefully ✌🏼😅
Liked this one a lot, but I was one of the lucky few to play Pocky & Rocky back in the day and really loving it. This one is really good outside a few hiccups. Two-player being unlocked only towards the end (which makes sense via story mode) sort misses a big part of the appeal of Pocky & Rocky. Some of the English translation is really iffy for a game of this day and age, but everything else you mentioned in the review really sparkles. This game is a dream come true for Pocky & Rocky fans.
One of my favorite SNES games ever, so this one has been on my wishlist for years. Unfortunately it never goes on sale, and I'm kinda cheap so I haven't pulled the trigger yet... EDIT: A Shadow of the Ninja remake?! No way, that was one of my favorite NES titles! Great game, under appreciated, with an awsome ending theme.
I bought this game simply because I thought the art was great and I ended up playing through it twice and had a blast. I’d gladly play it again and I think it’s a super great little gem
This is how remakes of 16-bit games should be- not updating everything to 3D graphics because "2D is old and obsolete and nobody wants it any more" (something that was already disproven back in the _32-bit era_ when Sony tried to mandate for only 3D games, only for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to become one of the most-beloved PSX games of all time), but just updating and improving the sprite graphics that we all know and love from that era.
Note that the western release of the Switch version is slightly censored. The Japanese release has English text option, so, you should get that one instead if you are planning on playing it on the Switch. The Steam version is uncensored in all regions.
Man, imagine elevator action returns getting this treatment, I know it wasn’t made by Natsume, but with how amazing ninja saviors turned out, if i were Taito i would give them more IPs and capital to work on those
