Nope. Disagree. Being fluent in German and having heard, watched and studied Hitler and Goebbels speeches for more than 50 years, quite a few in full (!) length, there is no resemblance. When my wife and I watched Guilfoyle's speech the longer it took the more and louder we started laughing. Sooo hilarious. Her mimics, intonation, body launguage were sooooo bad. amateurish. She "tried" sooooo hard. It was more of a southern US preacher. Some of those are really "good" with their religious "shows." But she was just plain bad. Her imitation was awful. Imagine her performance as a casting infront of serious, proper directors. Or at a casting for an America's got Talent show. There would be stares of disbelief. In Britain's got Talent show the judges would be in stitches laughing thie heads off. Film. theatere directors would interupt her after 30 second d and call for "Next!" And yes, atleast in the UK the public would be booooooing her off the "stage." But having enjoyed the primitive entertainment. It sometimes is fun watch people making idiots of themselves.

@Mary Ray - that's an interesting thought. We also still don't know what killed Robert Trump. Brain bleeds happen with covid infection. And he was ill earlier in July - covid has a habit of seeming to get better and then taking a turn for the worse. And why did Trump (who is prone to saying what is uppermost in his mind) say that his brother in hospital deplored the 'terrible Chinese plague'? If Robert had suffered a stroke or an aneurysm, then that's what they would have said. We don't habitually refer to a stroke or aneurysm simply as "brain bleeds". My bet is that Trump wouldn't want America to know that his own brother died from covid thanks to his mismanagement of the pandemic.

The DNC concentrated on introducing Joe Biden as a "decent family man with faith"... Someone you wouldn't be embarrassed to vote for, unlike Trump. They did discuss policy as being centered around the individual as opposed to corporations and self-serving backroom deals.

I never watch any of tRump's speeches live ever since I heard his verbal diarrhea during his campaign. It made me physically ill. Stephen is right, watch the rnc via The Late Show because the rnc is just a big joke.
I have to correct him on that Obama speech a little bit. He was making a point about how there were so many marginalized groups that didn’t give up on democracy. There were Black Americans but also the Irish, Italians, Asians, Latinos, Jews, Catholics, Muslims, and Sikhs. Each felt varying forms of discrimination, and most of the above still face it, and I don’t mean to take away from Black people’s struggles.

What a relief to hear Stephen say he would give us the (high?) points of the RNC so we wouldn't have to watch. I tried last night, just to see what we are up against, but I couldn't stomach it past the teacher against the teachers union and the barista who kept her coffee shop open during COVID-19 out of concern for fellow Americans! I love when Stephen hosts these guys. The convos are interesting and full of quips. Too bad listening to their podcast is so hard to listen to with all the "umms" and "likes". It's a shame, because they are truly intelligent and entertaining, individually and collectively.

Did anyone else notice that Guilfoyle, when she talked about her parents, said her mother was from Puerto Rico and her father was "also an immigrant". Does Guilfoyle somehow not know that people in Puerto Rico are US citizens? Guilfoyle is not (as she called herself) a 1st generation American.

Sometimes when people have been on “vacation” from their professional duties for a long while, and then must get back into it, it takes a reversal of mind set. Yet Joe is an example of someone who is ready to charge his brain back up and get into the correct suit and mindset for the job. I wish that people did not work so hard to diminish people who are over 60 so much.

Not a whole lot if you got a message of hope and patriotism from the RNC. The DNC painted in some somber tones the reality that we've been thrust into as a nation, which reflects darkness that we need to get ourselves away from: constant corruption, dishonesty, civil upheaval, preventable sickness and mortality with no end in sight. The RNC's messaging mostly ignores our duties to one another to start healing the wounds of system racism, keep each other safe from sickness and mortality, and most of all tell the truth at all costs. What we've seen from the RNC is a series of superficial high-notes, political posturing and patriarchal deference to a man that is thoroughly corrupt and dishonest, and has none of the characteristics of a leader, let alone a strong one. He's a reckless narcissist who attempts to cheat and subvert at all cost in furtherance of his own power and image, calling it "hope" and "patriotism". I welcome younger, light comic relief such as this clip. It's another small step away from the darkness...that the RNC dwells in with it's uncanny, plastic-y type characters that yell and sweat and twang idiotic soliloquies in the shadows....while still holding mature and reasonable views.

So if there is systematic racism, they would be responsible for it. If America had a systematic racism problem, how did we have a black president, or black congressman? How would most of the NBA be black? How would someone like Jussie Smollet who faked a hate crime, be let off Scott free?? JWM one more point, the most racist institution in America is Planned Parenthood. Their founder, Margaret Sanger said “The most successful educational approach to the negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the negro population.” Can you believe the founder of PP said that!? She said many more things about blacks and other minorities. Just look it up. This is why Planned Parenthood clinics are mostly in poor areas, you don’t see them in rich neighborhoods. If that’s not racist then I don’t know what is.
