It's not "our bar", it's the bar that Trump and his joke of an administration put down. If you'll allow the reference; if there had been elections in 1940's Germany, you wouldn't have demeaned Jewish people for saying "We'd vote for anyone that isn't Hitler". What I'm saying is that our bar isn't "that low", Trump is just "that bad".
Pocket Heart Please have higher hopes and demands, standards if you will, of your/our leaders than «anyone better than/not Trump». That is not good enough by any metric and is sad to even consider, given how easy it seems to have been for him and his owners (no idea who and not about to guess or care) to drag all our expectations down to gutter level. Come the fuck on, please, good people of the earth. Wake up

GET RID OF TRUMP! Then u can start working on the rest. And Andre Cabezas is absolutely right, in 2016 a lot of ppl bought Trumps "what do u have to lose" bs and thought, sure, better Trump than Clinton. The sign of a great man or woman is who they surround themselves with. Biden is already surrounding himself with the best and brightest because he's humble enough to realize he doesn't know it all.
Yes, a POTUS needs to surround himself with an A-team, but he/she needs to be more than a figurehead, a puppet of certain parts of the DNC. Biden has neither the temperment nor the cognitive ability we should demand. Bernie, please standby!!! When asked a valid question by a worker in Detroit, Biden told the man he was "full of sh*t" and he might slap his face!!!! Someone please convince Gov Cuomo to run, even as Bernie's VP.
Diana Nutt In total agreement. I saw two candidates of enormous promise, but the US is clearly a)not evolved enough to elect a women and, b) lacking the courage to elect a democratic socialist
Bernie dropping out wasn't a failure, for sure. Every progressive that runs gets us closer to a Progressive in the WH. Slower than some of us would like, sure.. but slow and steady will wget us there eventually. And if we can get Bernie, or Warren in the Cabinet, or a VP position (even if that is mostly symbolic), it pushes us forward.
Right. Bernie not only launched the Progressive Movement, he still holds a great position of leadership as a senator. With Trump and Biden creating such a leadership vaccum, Americans will continue to look to Sanders for hope and inspiration.
Warren isn't a progressive she has already proven this by staying in the race to take votes from Bernie, and by not endorsing Bernie after she dropped out, over a snake emoji. Which she will now see for the rest of her life. Where the hell have you been?
3:47 most important answer to why Sanders supporters should vote for Biden, even while holding their noses. I’m a Sanders supporter, but I will vote for Biden in November.
"How enthusiastic are you about Biden?" Was I the only one who thought they were trying to convince themselves with that answer? (100% agreed - better Biden than Trump, but I'm not exactly excited about it)
They do all know Biden very well and have been very positive about him as a person, but very critical of him during his campaign. I think they genuinely think he'd make a good president, but aren't too sure he makes a good candidate. And I think that fair enough. I'd prefer a whole lot more progressive than Biden personally, but as a human being he is very decent and I think he's capable (especially when compared to Trump 😅 )
@@MsEgwene I do think he'll be a good president --- that wasn't the question though. Were they excited to have him as the candidate? I think the answer to that is no (though maybe excited to just be done with the primary)
spthibault ah yes the dangers of asking more of the people what they want in the shining beacon of freedom and democracy. Hats off to republicans and their supporters for avoiding such folly
But this isn't necessarily true. When Colorado went to mail in ballots, they elected Cory Gardner?!? It's just a scare tactic to make the Republican base view it as "bad". When I was stationed overseas in the military, I always voted by mail. While I am a liberal, a lot of people in the military are not. That said, I do think it would encourage greater participation, which, historically, is not good for Republicans because they can't selectively suppress the vote (ex. target registered Hispanic voters with purges from the rolls, eliminate polling stations in predominately minority communities, etc).
@@DS-rt1ed yes but when have members of the trump train ever been overtly preoccupied with consistencies like "truth" or "facts"... the object isn't to be truthful the object is to win.

As an average citizen I admit I never was into following politics. I never thought about it. Issues here and there but, mostly I trusted my government. But since Trump, it's been obvious we've been in danger.
To be fair, the government is always incompetent and slow to respond, any large organization is, and considering we have to work for 40-60 hours a week to keep food on the table, and politicians have to politicize for 30 hours a week, its no surprise we can't keep up with them. But yeah, Trump has really shined a light on how bad the swamp can be when you assign family and friends to positions of power and responsibility. Funny nobody learned from the Mafia in NY
Very enraging to watch Trump's meetings. I need isolation And cool down time during/after I watch them... I watched the queen of Englands public announcement and it was short, sweet, and hopeful... I'm not saying we should have a monarch but damnit I wish we had a level headed leader that could inspire hope and instill realism in a graceful manner... I can dream, can't I?

Even now our pm just shut down the entire country with any qualms. We are billion people yet somehow the rate is down. If we disagree with our leaders we storm the roads.
@Catherine Kirkpatrick no system is perfect. People have to be hyper vigilant. If we allow a bad thing to happen it snowballs. Daniel Ryslink I voted for Bernie Sanders in the Primary, and Joe Biden may not be the perfect choice, but he is the Democratic candidate for president, and so I will support him.
I'm not a huge Biden fan, but I will vote for him over the guy who threw kids in cages and called Covid-19 a "Democrat hoax". That said, I think Biden needs to pick a feisty VP like Stacey Abrams. With her on the ticket, they would be unbeatable, IMO.
Been hearing that Gov Cuomo is way ahead of Biden in the polls. We apparently don't deserve the perfection of a Bernie Sanders, but we need a much better choice than Biden. No plans, no enthusiasm for anything (especially debating) but primaries and setting up the convention. A tRump clone. A puppet of those who would cut Soc Sec, etc.
I’m sick of the framing, “What does Bernie have to do to bring his supporters around to Biden?” How about “What does Biden have to do to bring around Bernie supporters?” What does Biden have to offer *anyone* who is not elderly and white beside not being Trump? Does anyone know what he really stands for? Biden is the luckiest schmuck ever. His campaign was lackluster, and he did next to nothing to win the nomination. People who pay little attention to politics voted for him because they were afraid, and Biden was Obama’s VP, so a known quantity. Obama made some calls, and he got some key endorsements at the right time. So Biden shouldn’t be too cocky about his win. No one is excited about him. I mean, a ham sandwich would be preferable to Trump.

I still have Bernie Sanders in my profile picture since early 2016, and it pains me to see the US doesn't deserve such a great leader. But as an immigrant with his application taking forever due to Trump administration like many other legal immigrants (and coronavirus doesn't help either), I reluctantly support Biden as he can't fuck up immigration this bad. I wish Biden were as empathetic as they are saying he is. But his record is problematic. And what about the women who have accused him of sexual assault? What about his vehement refutation of M4A and the Green New Deal? Where IS he in this pandemic? Not to be the candidate who will beat Trump or be the president we need at this moment in time. There are too many questions left unanswered in my mind. Where is Uncle Joe, to comfort and guide a country in fear, searching for a real leader in troubled times? Nowhere. I don't see any evidence that he cares. Or that he can beat Trump. Yes, Biden is the obvious choice, but I heard "kind" used twice to describe him. I don't know if that's a good adjective for Ol' Joe. I'm mean, we can rally behind him but that doesn't mean we have to stop being honest.
4 years ago Biden wasn't running but his name came up constantly in conversations on the podcast as they described working with him on many different initiatives. They always heaped praise upon him and talked about how one of the best parts of being in the White House was getting to work with Joe Biden. It seemed a little over the top to me as it felt more like hero worship. They explained it by saying the gaffe-machine you see in public isn't the guy you meet in person. Unfortunately, the public can really only get to know the image, not the real person. Oddly, despite all the good things they say about him, I do suspect they all voted for either Bernie or Warren but said from the beginning they'd support whoever won the nomination. It is always weird that Biden was the only Democratic nominee to not appear on their show. I suspect that will change soon.
Still don't like Biden. He will never do what Bernie Sanders would do. WE NEED MEDICARE FOR ALL. Biden won't do that. Still, we have to get Trump out of office. Not happy but I will vote for Biden, only because I have to.

I appreciate what these guys are trying to do, but... hard to understand the enthusiasm for Biden outside the context of opposition to Trump. Biden might be marginally more competent than Trump, but he's not a very impressive candidate. I don't see how one can so easily jump from Sanders to Biden. I might change my mind based on who Biden picks as a running mate, and who he decides to place around him as possible advisors/cabinet members, but I don't feel nearly as much passion and determination coming from Biden compared to Sanders. Seems to me like Biden's just going to be more of the same (gaffes, poorly thought out policies, etc.). Sanders promised some real change. If I vote at all, now, it will probably be for a third party. Biden, at a push, but with an enthusiasm level of like 1 or 2, and not because I think Biden is a good candidate; just because I think he'd be slightly less awful than Trump. Any vote that doesn't go to Biden, is effectively a vote for tRump. Because any vote for a third party candidate only takes votes from Biden's pool, not from tRump's pool.
I want you to take a look at what you've said. I agree, and if you'd listened to the pods you'd see that these three have also been very critical of Biden during the primaries. Lovett all but admitted he voted for Warren and suggested his mum vote for Bernie. But at the end of the day, your vote for a third party (which might as well be a non-vote) means you're allowing trump to win. It means that everything Bernie has fought for dies with his campaign. In fact, it means that your privilege will ensure that vulnerable categories will face acrual death (be it illness or starvation) because they have nothing to protect them from four more years of Donald Trump. When you vote for a third party, please at least admit that your privilege and 'ideals' come before the millions of Americans who can't afford to wait four more years for a progressive president.
How many gaffes has he had? If you add them all up, will they make it to one day of Trump's lies? Jesus Christ, your "purity tests" are not worthy of thought.
