The XT LIVE was with me when I did the first gig with my old band. It was with me when we recorded our first LP. I used it as a MIDI controller when I switched to a rack unit (Marshall JMP1+Marshall EL34+Gmajor..... it was such an heavy thing!). When the rack failed, the pod was here to save the night. I practiced with it a lot (never used the presets) and understood a lot about the basic things I needed to shape my sound. This guy helped me playing and create music for about 11 years. Now it has a well deserved retirement, but I will never sell it and keep having fun with it. Peace.

I had many models of Zoom, Digitrech and Line 6… This Line 6 pod XT is my favorite, the expression pedal is just perfect for wah an volume swell

I bought an XT Live pedal with Variax guitar used recently. After playing with it for a while I I was so impressed I bought a Pod HD500X. I will keep the XT Live because it sounds great in it's own right. The HD500X unit is also the latest in tech and is state of the art for the price, it certainly brings realistic modeling to the average guitarist. Having played in cover bands (started in 1973) I certainly wish we had these tools available to tailor our sounds. Guitar amps by themselves could never get the variety of tones available in any reasonable period of time. I popped the HD500x into the series effects loop on my Carvin V3 combo amp (100 watt 8 tubes, 3 channel, 2x12" speakers). I can play that beast at bedroom volume all the way to "must turn down no one can hear anyone else" volume. The Pod allows instantly setup amp models to be a footclick away. Caveat on these things though: You will have to take on the role of rocket scientist to learn how to make good, usable tones. Well worth it.

This is one of line 6's best products. You can get solid tones, and the tank like construction are pretty good.

to feed an amp it's often best to plug into the effects return. if feeding amp front set output volume all the way up and output is set to amp. Set your amp to clean channel and EQ flat.

@almightyjarve I think that you are right. I just can't get behind the new ones. I bought all the amp packages for the XT Live and really find that it does a lot of things very, very well. So why "upgrade"?

When playing live is there an amp out there beside the line 6 line that can give a neutral un-colored tone that is recommended? I sometimes use mine through a Mark 1 Mesa boogie and sounds great, but of course its colored by the amp tone. I'm still not keen on going through PA since you just don't get that big natural feedback loop. And what is the name of the song being played at 3:34?

If someone can help me out, I got a new amp (all tube) and it sounds really amazing but the tone is kinda thin when playing single notes and the distortion isnt the highest. If I get one of these could it thicken my tone up and give me higher distortion with some tweaking ??

Things People Told Me About This Pedal : The 'MAIN VOLUME' L & R Line Out Control Is At The back of The Board, Where You Plug In The Instrument Jacks. A Very Small Manual Volume Dial, Easily Missed. iv got a boss me 50 do you think i should get a XT its cuz the boss dosent have a preamp so it sounds bad thro church speakers but i saw demos of the Pod X3 and it sounded pre good is there that much difference to the X3?

@Fender1976uk are you sure you're not connecting it just regularly into your amp? you need to plug it in so that it is just the pod xt live making the tone, and the head of your cab just being used as the power amp. Or you just need extremely neutral settings on your head when you plug it in regularly, but that is virtually impossible.

Can someone help? I'm having trouble dialing in the choruses and other mods on mine. No matter how I set them, they just doesn't shine through. Other than that, it was the best $119 I ever spent. I found mine online still in the box, never been opened. Lol. These pedals really are the best!

Hey dude, thanks for this. I was given one of these, free. I'm used to using stompboxes, is there a manual I can download anywhere. I've been mucking around with it, and so far all I really like is the chorus and delay. I've found most of the presets to be mostly...I don't want to be unkind...let's say "cheesy". That "Plush" sound is kind of awesome, for sure.

I use line 6 pod xt live many jears and it's totaly ok whit the extension packs. More is not needed! Is very esely to use to tune up sounds and download.

Can someone plz post a simple clear instruction on how to grab a preset, add it to a user channel and then adjust it(EQ volume etc). When I hit some presets the volume goes through the roof and I end up using the volume pedal, but I just want the effect without the volume. Thanks in anticipation :)

You are probably wanting to adjust the "channel volume" of each patch and just resave it once you found some unity volume that works for you.

I plan on getting one of these today. I have a Marshall DSL40cr and love the tone whether clean or crunch. I want to use the Pod xt for the effects only and keep the Marshall sound. What is the best way to accomplish this? Seems when I try these things, it takes away from that marshall tone.

You could try running the pod xt in the FX loop of the Marshall providing it has one . Then make sure any amp simulation is off on the actual board so all you have selected is the FX you want to use on the board

few of the ones with the spinal tap on it are decent but just download some through custom tone and tweak for a few mins and you'll find what you want

I've got one of these. I can get a pretty good tone out of it but just like any other gear you need to know how to use it! It's probably the best effects pedal board for its price. I do agree that the XT sounds better than the new versions which sound much more digital and have less warmth. All the same, I can't wait to change to analog gear. :D

@Trevaland the factory presets usually aren't nearly as good as they can be "as is", and need tweaking most of the time to match your current configuration of guitar and amps. There are some very good patches done by users that are way better. I have some for AC/DC, Sabbath, Zep and others made by users and available at Line 6 site or other sites elsewhere that are very very close to the originals.

I have this effects board and heard that you can record and loop and play it back while playing lead over it. If that is correct, I can't figure out what bank gives you this ability. I've read through the owners manual and still can't find out how to do it. Does anyone know how it's done?? Any help would be great. Thanks

Yes; the way that works is you would hit a save button and just toggle to the desired location and then save again to set it.

I got a Pod xt live a couple months back. I have an RP-20 Digitech as well. On the Digitech you can get a preset from other banks and assign it to a different bank. I've read the manual on the POD and it doesn't say you can do it. Does anyone have an answer. I like several presets they have but have to bank up or down to get them. I'd like to put the presets I like on one or two banks closer to one another.

Did you have a back up on your computer that you can upload it back to your board? If not, look around on the Line6 forums or their support page. Hopefully you can get your tone back.

These sound great... I have used one since 2007... Since these were made before CAB IR's were the big thing, I want to try using something like the MOOER RADAR cab ir pedal.. .betcha it would be awesome... BY THE WAY.. MINE RECENTLY DIED.. THE FIX WAS THE ON/OFF SWITCH.. THERE WAS NO WARNING.. .very easy fix... Do a search on POD XT LIVE DEAD found a fix.. it will pop up

Would this Line 6 Pod XT give me something over my current Line 6 Spider Jam 2.0 Amp? Is it worth buying or should I stick with what I've got?

The pod xt live is a good pedal, you can edit all the patches via usb through the computer. You literally have complete control over the unit and all parameters. I know the spider amp has a builtin looper(plays drums) This unit doesnt have that but if you have some DAW you can use to run your loops from a computer. I use this unit for recording and live purposes.

D# is the same as Eb. tune to Eb using the board any you'll be fine :) you could always just tune to E while fretting the first fret.

Hey people, any idea how you move sounds from one bank to another, or swap sounds between banks, etc? I bought a great used unit recently, but I;m not sure how to move sounds around so that my top 8 or 12 are together in, say, banks 1, 2 and 3. Thanks!
