Thank you for your input about the struggles of left-handed knitters in a right-handed world! It is nice to know I am not alone in having to convert the right-handed charts to adapt to my left-handed knitting. : )

Thank you so much for talking about how you knit charts! I'm a left handed knitter as well, and I struggle quite a bit with charts, especially asymmetrical ones. I've gotten confused before and knit cables that wrap in the opposite direction from what the pattern intended... More visibility into left handed knitting is so important!

I have taken to tracking my rows in writing. For example, if the pattern says "repeat rows 22 to 23 fifteen times", then I write a simple table in my knitting notebook. 1st column runs numbers from 1-15, then 2nd column has number 22 at the rop, 3rd column has number 23. When I start the first round, I write ... (3 dots) for row 1/22 and when I'm done, I add a tick mark after ... So this means that if I need to set down my knitting in the middle of the row (I have toddlers, so I get interrupted a lot), then I know where I was. Also, if I have to fo increases, I will write the correct st count for each section of the row, so it's easy to check it (doing a checksum😅).

I have two kids and it’s great to get handmade knitted pieces in bigger sizes as well. A lot of people gift you newborn items, but it’s great to be able to dress your 3 month old in something beautiful as well :)

It's so exiting to find another left handed knitter! I recently started knitting and I'm doing my first charted pattern and am still a bit confused. I do get mirroring the chart, which I'll try, but it would be AWESOME to have some sort of tutorial on how to do that and how to read it then. I'd love if you could do it! We need patterns to be more inclusive, not just size inclusive, but also left-handed inclusive! :)

Left handed knitter here too! I think that forces us to really understand our knits as we always have to think of the orientation of the stitches! I have only done simple charts so I did not need them flipped but I will keep that in mind, thanks!

Very informative and cool video! Thank you for taking the time to film it. I've knit TONS of baby gift knits (actually more than for myself...) and I thought I would share how my yarn/size choices have evolved. Obviously, it's very personal; I'm sure many people do things differently. - Yarn: I always make sure to pick up a yarn that is 1. not too scratchy and!! 2. machine washable... With the exception of one friend who, although not a knitter, has a deep appreciation of the work involved in crafting and therefore hand washes my knits, all my other friends or family members have other priorities (which I totally understand). - Size: Nowadays, I always knit size 1 yo or 2 yo. For several reasons: 1. Babies outgrow their knits so so so fast (sometimes faster than it takes to knit the piece) ; 2. Parents are gifted tons of baby knits, but they have less for when their child grows older. In any case, I avoid knitting the new born size because if the baby is a chunky one, he/she will never wear the piece... Just so you know, PetiteKnit has awesome patterns for babies and kids BUT she must have small children because it sizes really small (I pick one or two sizes bigger than the one I'm actually aiming at). I know you have picked another pattern, but I thought I'd share this info in case you want to knit one of her tiny patterns one day. - Pattern: besides garments (which are super cute...), toys can make long cherished gifts. (I'm lainelaine on Ravelry if you want to see some of my baby knits)

I just cast on the season's cardigan and got to the part where you mention how slow half fishermen's rib is ^^;;; I guess we will be working on this cardigan together for the long haul!! Also I recommend making the 3 month old size. You are never quite sure how big the baby may be newborn and they grow out of newborn sized clothes SUPER fast. I think sizing up is always a good idea for kids, especially for nicer pieces.

Definitely knit the baby sweater in the 3 month size. They will get more time to wear it. I made my daughter a newborn size sweater and she only wore it once before it was too small.

Yes! Another vote for 3 month size. Most babies fit in newborn size clothes for about two seconds. And some come out already too big for newborn sized clothes. If you want a greater chance for the sweater to be worn, ideally even more than once, 3 month or larger is the way to go.

I didn't realize you were also a left-handed knitter! Love to hear you talking about it, and I have the same problem with my knitter's pride needle cords unscrewing sometimes as I knit. Very interested in hearing your experiences with the swivel cords instead :)

Yay love hearing about other left-handed knitters! After just a few weeks of using them I've still experienced unscrewing! :( I think I need to start tightening them with a rubber band as well.

I would recommend knitting that baby sweater in the 3 month size. It will have a longer wear time that way.

Really interesting to hear about your left handed knitting! And I totally agree about the seasons cardigan being a bit fiddly with the DPNs- I used a long circular needle instead which was slightly better, but I think in future I’d rather just knit the button band separately and sew it on instead of having to deal with the needles hanging off

Also giving my vote for 3mo sweater for the baby. Babies sky rocket in size but the first few months it is SO quick. Also a lot of parents focus on buying new born stuff and are gifted new born stuff. Babies need few more layers so a jumper would probably serve a purpose late spring (depending where you live - in Finland they serve well even during summer season lol).

I came to say the same both those yarns and delicious! Newborns don't have occasions to get dressed in beautiful sweaters. It's better to go for the 3-month size because many babies grow quickly and so they'll get more wear out of a larger size. 💖

What you mentionned about the gauge swatching was an interesting point. Usually, I dont gauge swatch before buying the pattern because most of the time, I don't have the yarn. Sometimes, I do have some yarn and I have to find a pattern for it, but not that often. I can't imagine myself buying a skein or a ball of yarn, gauge swatch and then, buy the rest of the yarn quantity if it works. I wish I could because sometimes, it's hard to figure out the meterage you need. Especially now that I want to turn all the DK or heavier yarn weight sweaters into fingering weight yarn sweaters 😅 All that to say that for me, it's a guessing game and it ends up with a lot of scrap yarn 🙄 However, as I have knitted a few fingering weight yarn projects, I can try to refer to them for the gauge 🤔 Anyway, thank you for this episode !!🥰

I have the Knitter's Pride cubics too and the Kabonz. Both are nice but I had the same issue with the chipped tip. I emailed the company and they sent a replacement.

I am Knitter's Pride needles user and wasn't aware they had a swivel cord option! I'll definitely have to check those out. I love knitting with metal needles, I purchased the small set of the Knitter's Pride Zing collection and love them! They do have a bit more weight to them but I find them very enjoyable to knit with. I also keep a set of the ginger shorties for knitting sleeves & collars.

I really enjoy your podcast. Your knitting is beautiful! After trying every brand of knitting needle I settled on Chiagoo red lace. I never have any issues with them and I've used them for years. I know they are a bit pricey but worth every cent.

Highly recommend you try the lantern moon swivel cords… those have been really nice and work with your needles. I actually really like the lantern moon needles and ginger ones too…

Hi, thanks for your channel! I have question and no one can help me: English is not my mother-tounge language so I am trying my best to describe it: I am knitting the Moby sweater right now and I am trying to start the arm but having difficulties with the rate of stitches to start with: it says in the instruction to loop up 84 stitches (that I can't even manage to loop up because I seem to have not enough edge stitches from the shoulder). And then it says that the frequency of "looping up" stitches should be 3 stitches in every 4th round. Do you know what that means? Do I have to start with 84 stitches then or do I have to add 3 stitches in every 4th round until I finally got 84 stitches? How do I add 3stitches? With how many stitches should I start then? I hope I could make it clear. Thanks a lot for your help! Theresa

Hi there! That means on the first round of picking up ("looping up") stitches from the arm hole, you need to pick up 84 stitches. You should have more than 84 rounds of knitting along the entire circumference of the armhole, so picking up 3 stitches every 4 rounds of the armhold should get you to 84 evenly onto your needles for the sleeves. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RfUmzFdLRaE.html This video should help!
