Such an inspiring and beautiful episode! I've actually thought a lot about passion and motivation most recently getting out of high school, and throughout life growing up in general. I've always pondered about what the meaning of life is, how it's different for everyone, and what mine is. For my final English project in high school actually, I wrote a thesis about what success is. I interviewed a few people including my family, teachers, and Lawrence Iriarte who is the director of the Lumpia with a Vengeance, (which is actually the newest installment of the Lumpia series Iriarte birthed as a passion project with his friends 20-30+ years ago in high school). From the interviews I did with my elders/teachers/ etc, I found it interesting that if not all, a majority of the people I talked to found a passion in life they wanted to achieve, and have gotten beaten down by their elders/parents/etc about their goals. Even with the backlash from friends/family/etc., a majority of these people I learned from decided to ignore the haters when they started their careers. However, when I did a study on my friends/peers, some people had an idea of what they wanted to do after high school while a majority of them either didn't really have a plan, or were forced to continue on achieving "this path", from family. Success has a different meaning for everyone, young and old, but why is it that in society, people assume the worst/have negative connotations about "your choices", and try to guide "you" on to the path they think is the "best"/"right"? I get that failure is a scary thought, however, anyone could say the same thing about success. Another thing I thought of when I heard this interview was how do you find motivation for yourself? Or even if you are mostly positive/are surrounded by mostly positivity?
This episode was very thought-provoking. I especially liked how you phrased the questions as they pertain to her and not just in general, because success, passion, relaxation, all vary from person to person. It takes some of us a long time to find our passion, and then have the courage to pursue those passions, because society and our families and friends want to define what success should look like for us and then pressure us to follow "the path" even when it doesn't serve us. I hope more people get to explore their passions in a mentally healthy way. Also the waffling was great, because that is how all my conversations with my friends go 🤣
Gen X chiming in here. A lot of the things you talk about for millennials about what you want or what’s wanted for you I can relate. We had the same expectations put on us. But at least in the early gen X days life was slightly more affordable. And I’m laughing that you skipped from boomer to millennial just like everyone else does! 😂
About the "dildo" (😂) - yes, it was in a lot of the older promotional covers and posters, but Disney later changed the cover for obvious reasons. But yeah, that designer actually came out later and said that was not his intent, but the design came out that way by accident.
