I so wanted to like that thing when I heard about it. Proprietary mags, $2k and unreliable, why POF why? Maybe Ruger will do what it does best and steal their homework and do it better and cheaper. I have said for years that the PC carbine and the model 96, that share some of the same DNA, could be combined to make an amazing lever gun.
"If you’re going to use a manually operated firearm inside your house, why would it not be a shotgun?" - for the same reason that some people have revolvers at home. Age and physical infirmities dictate that for many people, using a shotgun inside the home would be a no-go. Racking a slide or absorbing shotgun recoil would be difficult or impossible. And for most people, the stress of a home break-in might mean that looking for and putting on a pair of ear protection would be the last thing on their mind. I've shot both a 12 gauge and a 16inch barreled 9mm inside a room (one accidentally forgetting to put on ear pro and in the other, purposely prioritizing shooting rather spending time looking for ear pro) and the different decibel levels is profound. The shock of any centerfire firearm discharge in a room is enough to not only cause significant hearing damage but also a considerable amount of disorientation. Firing 9x19 from a 16 in barrel is a lot kinder and safer for the person defending themself. Of course, for many of my age and health persuasion, we would rather have a semi-auto pcc. Personal taste might spur us to consider a lever gun and while this looks attractive, I think many of us would prefer that it doesn't cost 2 months pension. That's why many seniors rely on hipoint or kel-tec carbine choices or a .38 special rossi if we really wanted a manually operated defense weapon.
The only issue I see is the stock and magazine which may run into problems with states or countries that have restrictions like mine. Hopefully the government doesn’t behave like dummies and just let them in.
It HAS TO BE reliable!!! For 2 grand and to be that special kind of butt-ugly, it has to be 100% with brass, steel, and Mattel Shootin' Shells (look'em up if you're young---man, we had the coolest toys!). Some company (and I'm having a Joe Biden moment here) debuted at SHOT or the NRA show a lever action LOWER receiver...yes, to mate with your myriad uppers already in possession. They had the complete gun too, but the plan was eventually to sell just lowers as well. Jim, please see if you can dig up one of those for review. It's not a tiny off-brand company, I've just gone blank, I don't know what day it is, how to read a teleprompter, of even how to walk off a stage!!! If a lever gun is not going to be as beautiful and svelte as a Winchester/Browning/Henry/Savage or as dead accurate practical as a Marlin/Rossi, THIS concept would be of much more interest to me. A deer/coyote/hog/self-defense/bear lever-action that will take my already zeroed uppers. Hep me, Mr Grant!!!

So I'll answer your question. Yes, with most ammunition you will in fact get an increase in velocity over a pistol.
With the rise of anti-gun legislation, especially focused on semi automatic, the traditional bolt and lever gun actions will be a nice refuge for options... I think the market is going to soar. I guess it really doesn’t matter what caliber it’s in. I don’t get the function of having an automatic pistol round with a lever???
