In the second sky dive scene, Patrick Swayze, in full close up, goes out of the plane backwards. No cut away, no face replacement or deep fake, no green screen compositing or rear screen projection. Just a big freakin movie star, going ass first out of an air plane, one hundred percent FOR REAL. Incredible movie. Incredible commitment from Swayze.

My friend's dog got out of his house and he started walking his neighborhood knocking on doors asking if anyone had seen his dog, To his surprise Patrick Swayze answered. When my friend told him why he was knocking Patrick said hold on, went into his house put his shoes on, came back and said we can cover more houses if they worked opposite sides of the street and joined my friend knocking on doors. What a gentleman. RIP

I think it depends on who you ask in the surfing community about how they feel about the film but I think most are positive on it and it brings back some nostalgia. I grew up in a major surfing region and all the kids at school couldn't stop talking about this film. Even if it is not 100% accurate, the acknowledgement of surfing culture is a plus for most, particularly for people who were young at the time. I think competition surfing was at its absolute peak when this came out. The bit about him being beaten up for dropping in on other people's wave is fairly accurate, especially for the time and place in the US, as surfers were and still are territorial to an extent. I think people have lightened up a bit though. It used to be poor etiquette that a lot of people there felt couldn't go unpunished back then but perhaps it still goes on in some places. People could get away with violence when you think about it because the cops aren't out there in the surf and there aren't always a lot of witnesses there who see everything and could step forward. The Bells Beach scene wasn't shot in Australia unfortunately, but rather Oregon. That explains the dodgy accents, pine trees and police uniforms etc.

I will just say one thing that's always annoyed me. They bust the house which was organised and must have been granted warrants by the boss and then the boss gives them a telling off for spoiling an under cover operation which must have also been approved by the same boss. So in the organisation of these events it's the boss to blame for letting 2 cases overlap without telling either one of them.

The raid was FBI the undercover was DEA. There is a lot of competition between agencies for the "glory" and credit for a bust. So, there is not a lot of inter agency exchanging of info

Anyone who spends time in the water carries a knife. Usually ceramic so it doesn't rust. If you get caught on some coral or anything then having a knife and not having one is as easy as alive or dead. a decent knife costs about $40. Is that what your life is worth? In fact most divers carry 2 knives. One smaller one just in case you panic or some shit and lose your main 'big' knife.

30:20 - fun fact: most parachute enthusiasts of course know this movie and this scene and of course some tried to recreate it - one person holds on as another opens the chute (both of course have chutes and know what they are doing). Point is - it's impossible to hold on. Even the strongest man in the world won't be able to. You need special harness. Also, it's impossible to talk during a fall so that conversation could not have happened.
@goldenageofdinosaurs7192
@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 2 года назад
I wonder if you could hold on if you were able to wrap your arms in & around the shoulder straps? It’s always looked like it’d be incredibly hard (or impossible) to keep a grip. As someone who’s swung on more than a few big rope swings, I know how difficult it is to hang on when gravity is pulling you one way & pulling what you’re holding onto the other🤣
@ScarlettM
@ScarlettM 2 года назад
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 To answer your question: no, it would not be possible. No matter how you are holding on, even if both of you are holding on as hard as possible - you won't be able to keep your grip once the chute opens. It's outside the realm of human strength. You need a specialized harness. There is a reaction video on RU-vid with professional skydiver talking about movie scenes. It covers Point Break.

This movie holds a special place in my personal collection, glad to see it get a proper reaction. As a younger Gen Xer (I was 12 when this came out), my favorite part was actually the soundtrack. Point Break is sort of a crossroads between the end of 80s rock culture and the 90s alternative rock scene that followed, as it featured the iconic Sunset Strip band Ratt (the song “Nobody Rides For Free” that plays during the end credits), but also featured a brilliant cameo by Anthony Kiedis (Red Hot Chili Peppers front man) as the first surfer gang member who shot himself in the foot. Another interesting side note is that the fire-eater during the party scene was 80s B-cinema star and scream queen Debra Lamb. Actually met her back in 2012, really great and down to earth actress and dancer.

Looking o're your shoulder I see a lot of books about movies and cinema... But I don't see a book that you should own. "Monsters in the Movies: 100 Years of Cinematic Nightmares" by John Landis... If you like your movies and cinema and the "monsters" in movies then it's a book you really should own. Loads of beautiful stills from classic movies to recent (2010) movies. Almost every on screen monster is shown and talked about with interviews from the directors, make up artists, creature creators. It's just a really great book. ETA, if you can find the hardback version for under $50 then buy that. Avoid the Paperback version, it's far too expensive and isn't bound very good. The Kindle version is just a couple of $ if you just want to have a quick read through or need some trivia or a quick fact, but you're not going to enjoy the full colour pictures... Look for the Hard Copy, used copies pop up on ebay and Amazon ever now and again, and like I said if you see one for less than $50 then buy it. Unless it's in poor condition.

James Cameron was an executive producer on Point Break because he was married to Kathryn Bigelow at the time. Cameron had just divorced his previous wife, Gale Anne Hurd, his co-producer on The Terminator, Aliens, and The Abyss, and married Kathryn Bigelow in 1989. Cameron divorced Bigelow after getting involved with Linda Hamilton following Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991, and he later married Hamilton. Then Cameron had an affair with actress Suzy Amis during the filming of Titanic and divorced Hamilton, and married Amis. Quite a guy, huh? 😆

I really like that the script is tough enough to have Bodhi actually be a bad guy - it would have been easy to make him a kind of faultless, blameless bodhisattva, but instead he's a flawed and selfish person who does a lot of harm to people around him, and the movie's better for it. And Patrick Swayze is so goddamn charismatic when you first meet him in this, it's easy to buy Johnny falling for him.

This movie was actually adapted for the stage, as a "reality play" called POINT BREAK LIVE. The tone was very satirical and over the top but the craziest part was, every performance began with open auditions from among members of the audience for the role of Johnny Utah. Three or four volunteers would get to audition, the audience would cast them based on applause, and an actor playing the part of "Script Girl" would be on stage with him, holding up his dialogue on cue cards for the rest of the play. I am assuming this was meant as some kind of commentary on the quality of Keanu's acting in this particular film.

Fyi the lead singer of Red Hot Chilli Pepper plays in the movie one of the thugs in the gang of the drug dealers surfers. He is the one who shoot himself in the leg :) . Also Fyi there is a reason Gary Busey plays in this movie. He played a surfer before in a classic surfer movie Big Wednesday 1978 you should see it. It is a really great drama movie. Also Fyi They did a terrible remake to this movie in the recent years it is beyond horrible you should not watch it :)

I won't argue that it wasn't a no-holds-barred adrenaline-fuelled thrill-ride, but there's no way that you could perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork.

33:36 'Via con Dios' is Spanish, it means 'Go with God,' a typical well-wishing goodbye, when the journey is of uncertain outcome.

@@ReelReviewsWithJen Johnnie had a million opportunities to shoot Bodhi in the leg during that chase scene. Instead he tackles him and then chase him. And why not just put put and and arrest Bodhi and his gang. Or arrest him at Johnnie's apt. Or he could have shot Bodhi when they were grabbing each other in the parachute sequence. Great movie, but totally preposterous.

Nice reaction, Jen👍. Maybe consider watching Glengarry Glen Ross. A brilliant film with a stellar cast.

My mother rented this movie from Blockbuster a long time ago. When the clerk asked her what she thought of the movie, my mother said she didn't like the ending. The clerk said "At least he didn't go to jail" to which my mother responded "That's where he belonged".

Johnny Utah is a great character. It's definitely one of Reeves top 10 roles.
