I expected to see a bunch of critical comments considering the topic. Larry is right, Point/ Index Shooting is a skill that should be practiced and its advantages and limitations understood. Good stuff!

What a great video! I’m with all these true advice. Most burglaries and crime happen after the sunset, for example, more likely while at home, in a dark situation. Or when walking on dark street aisle encounters. And even in a real unavoidable and combat shootouts, instinctive shooting is best applied. 5 to 10 yards likely is possible. Aiming delays action, no much time left. Great for snipers anyway! Gunslingers like the “High Plains Drifter” does instinctive shooting style. 👍👍

If it’s so dark you can’t see your sights how are you identifying the threat? 🤔

Don't sweat the small stuff bro :)

agreed, however there are very small areas where something like this could occur. for example threat has back light showing him where he/she is, or in your home alone knowing the layout of home and using lights through windows to your advantage. its not preferred but its about options.

Come on. In dim light you can see around your house, but your old black sights will disappear. Also, you will see muzzle flash of the jacka$$ shooting at you.

I used to practice with a 3" model 66 using plasic bullets fired by s primer. Draw and shoot just ahead of the hip sorts throwing the gun at a coat hanging. 12 feet was my limit to get good hits. The gun must fit your hand with index finger placed om the trigger and the gun aligned with your forearm.

Pretty much invalidates his excuses in the "why i'm fat" video.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj
@DaveSmith-cp5kj 4 года назад
@@rfcdgaf It doesn't. His fat video was explaining when you don't do mil stuff after being "raised" on it, you build fat due to lowered activity but conditioned for the diet. It wasn't an issue for a long time, many vets are fat and just live with it, but he saw the writing on the wall which is why he started devoting more time to weight management. Being skinnier doesn't change much. Once you grow fat cells, they stay in your body and you can become fat a lot faster than someone who never was fat. He still has to put a lot of effort just to keep from becoming Larry Snickers again.

Bad diet , ( normal diet ) , kills way more people then Guns. 40,000. G.Deaths to 1,000,000.+ Heart Attacks & Strokes . The Pyramid ( SAD ) diet is a lie. Guns don't kill people ; Sugar, corn syrup , & white flour Kill People. Keto for the Win.

IMO you shouldn't train for point shooting outside of unconventional positions like the speed rock or using a shield. Doing sighted fire shooting naturally develops the muscle (procedural) memory that allows you to point shoot effectively. Although I do understand that Vicker's reasoning was dominant during his time and the job was still done.

This style of shooting is rarely spoken of anymore with all the tacticool theatrics we see now in many videos. Its nice to see someone addressing it. Most deadly threat engagements will be within 7 yards and most pistol doctrine taught today is to pick up the front sight. Well, that's fine on a flat range where no threat to your life exist or can be simulate to any real affect. What happens when a real threat presents itself? Are you disciplined enough to remove focus from the threat to your front sight? Natural body alarm response will be to remain eyes locked on the threat. You see it many times in video of real shootings. Rounds flying everywhere. You need to work with that natural response and not against it. Everyone has the ability to point accurately enough out to 5 to 7 yards. Through repetitive training on your draw, consistent grip and presentation you will be able to be combat effective at those ranges without ever seeing your sights. Great video. May I suggest a follow up with a demonstration?

One more detail, up close pupils shrink, further away pupils dilate, under adrenal stress pupils dilate.

Damn it, I need more ammo to train...got to go to my pre-reserves before I go into my stacked reserves. I’m getting anxious. Just kidding, try to practice point shooting every night, you’ll find your rounds will pretty much land where you are pointing at 3-5 yards. Good video.

In a civilian context if you have to draw your gun to decommission a criminal assailant, heart rate will go from 70 to 200 in less than a second, fine and complex motor movements will perish, you will experience a death grip on the gun, auditory exclusion, your eyes will focus on the threat, your brain will not let you close one eye, your pupils will dilate to maximum, you will reflexively jerk the trigger. The best way to train for this type of unfortunate event, is to use a death grip, point shoot jerking the trigger, practice getting shots on target in this manner which is the exact opposite of bulls eye score shooting. My reference for this training was Captain Fairbairn and Col. Rex Applegate.

Another option is dry fire in a dark room, aiming at a lit area, like a TV or lamp.

Yes, sir, it works. I practice at 7 yards, quick come-up from low ready, never look at the sights...only eyes on the target. I am amazed at how well this works for me even out to 15 yards, where 95% go into a 1-foot square. At 7 yards 95% go into about a 6-8" square. You don't have to read Ed McGivern's Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting to get going on this. Actually, the English bowman, Kevin Hicks got thinking about only looking at the target and not down the barrel or at the sights. He pours in arrows to a less than 10" diameter area from 80 yards...yes, 80 yards. He says look at the target, do not look down the shaft of the arrow. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EvKJcxa8x_g.html
