This video has made me so confident about getting into pointé! I am a boy that does ballet in Australia and has been offered to do pointé, although I lost a lot of hope because my peers always tell me, “Boys can’t do pointé, you’ll never do pointé.” But this has really made me much more confident and excited to know that boys can do pointé. FYI: I am in Year 6. 😬😩😊⚡️

Don't give up! You CAN do it!
@trenae77
@trenae77 Год назад
First off - Anyone can do anything! It may not work the same as someone else, it may take more work and require adjustments that others may not need, but the end result is setting a goal and achieving it in a way YOU can manage! I recommend you watch the video of Katelyn Ohashi tackling the Marine Obstacle course. She's not perfect, she has limitations that require her to seek assistance (which she does!) but she makes it through and enjoys the process regardless of the setbacks. Second - Whatever you do, do it safely! One thing I like about watching Josephine is that she stresses doing the right thing for you.

"It doesn't jam when I bourrée." Hearing that from a guy trying out pointe shoes makes me giggle, and I don't know why. I retired from ballet long before any of these remarkable young men were even born. I only regret NEVER having taken pointe, I think my feet would have improved in strength and flexibility.
@ashleymccarty
@ashleymccarty 5 лет назад
Since it's been so long since you left Ballet, are your feet and ankles still strong? I'm fascinated by Ballet dancers and their strength. Just curious, don't have to answer if it's too personal of a question. :)
@arnelnacino6754
@arnelnacino6754 5 лет назад
@@ashleymccarty Thank you for your question, and it's not too personal at all. I'm absolutely certain that my feet and ankles are NOT as strong as they used to be because there's no physical activity that works ALL the muscles in your lower legs and feet in quite the same thorough way ballet does. Having said that, even with my pine board feet (low arch, no instep, and just like these guys, inflexible ankles), and even though it's been many years, the mobility and strength in my feet and ankles is still greater than that of a person who's never danced. In other words you lose a lot of strength and flexibility through disuse and the passing of time, but you still end up with more than the average, non-dancer person.

I was too tall, feet too big, hair too short... Hated her so much. I love these videos with men & women. It shows that there's a pointe shoe for every size. I wish now (many decades later!) that I had allowed her to make me feel like I had to quit.

Lol I'm a girl but I always had a hard time fitting my shoes. I have really wide short feet, with a high arch, but not so flexible ankle. My first pair ended up being a grishko pro 2007 in a 4XXXXX (that's the widest they come in). I swear, I probably tried on 50 pairs of shoes my first fitting and those were the only ones that fit (some brands didn't even come close to offering the width and length I needed). I ended up switching to gaynors because they have more variety in sizing in terms of parts of the shoe that can change (wasn't offered them as my first pair cuz a lot of people don't think beginners should start with them since they're so different, not sure whether I agree with them or not).

I've never really understood why it's not usual for men to do pointe? I don't feel like they have a physical disadvantage, the thing you mention with most of them having stiffer ankles than women I suspect boils down to most women having been en pointe since their tweens so they have really worked that ankle felixibilty. Is it a silly gender norm thing? Apart from a few modern ballets I've seen, guys seldom have intriguing choreographies and are utilised only as support for the women as well.

NataliaEnchantix I am aware of that. I’ve been a professional dancer for 11 years and train and teach pointe. My original comment was based on the fact that a desire to be en pointe wasn’t listed as one of the reasons why a guy would be en pointe. Any serious ballet dancer or teacher knows point is serious business. My comment stems from the fact that you need to want it. If the guy wants to be on pointe the he CAN and should be able to train on pointe. It doesn’t just have to be for comedy and there is no need to be exclusive. These days I believe women should be encouraged to do more things that were once inherently only for men and vice versa.

How do they learn to walk quietly in them in time for a performance? I haven't been on pointe for decades, but I remember that being an issue. Can't be clonking around on stage like a pony ... First dude had a really nice arch, though.

May offer up an opportunity to have a male line for toe pads for pointe? Would help expand your ballet product needs both online, and in store fitting. Seems like it's becoming time for these additional product size beyond what was normal five years ago, vs now. Best of luck to all these wonderful men! Turn out, and those strong ankles are just beautiful. Take care, 🤓

I’m not a dancer, so this may be a silly question, but if it is not very uncommon for men to go on pointe, why aren’t there pointe shoes made for men? I understand that it is not common, but it sounds like it happens enough that there would be a niche market.

I wish the shoe makers could make a bunch of custom made shoes for them.

Several brands of pointes are effectively custom made anyway. Most Grishko are hand made as can be seen from their special order options as are Freed Classic.

I wish I had you for my 1st and only pair of points. I went to DKs dance wear in Pensacola FL. There where 3 associates standing around talking and none of them fitted me. I told them this was my very first pair of points....they handed me couple pairs of shoes and went back to talking with each other. They did not size me, look at my feet......they just left me completely alone but couldn't wait to collect my money. If they where useful and didn't their jobs....I shouldn't have been on point at all. I would have still bought some other dance shoe.

I wonder how much of the ankle issues are truly anatomy vs. the simple fact that they haven't been dancing in pointe shoes since they were 12 like the girls do (that is, anatomy vs. stretching/practice)

I was a professional dancer. My street shoe size is a 14.5 AA. Lol. . Some men have very narrow feet with long toes. I would like to get back into teaching and what company would you recommend to look for a custom fit. The Vaganova releve shoe by Grishko does make a box that fits me but way too short of a vamp and too short wings.

Who stocks these sizes? I wear 42 in EU sizes which is quite big. 41 is usually the largest size for females. I wish I could have pointes one day, but I live in Serbia. I doubt anyone stocks them here.

@@kaca2903 She didn't tell me that, but they stock and sell a lot of russian pointe. And the last pair they sold me (male, 42 foot EU) were also russian pointe Rubin i think. Not quite sure if i like them though :)
