"Poison", pretty fitting title. It would have been more fitting if it were called "Giant Spear in my Chest"

Fangirls, he isn't just a lonely boy who fight for hope and likes Hinata. Haters, he isn't just a crazy hope-obssessed character. Keep this in mind, he is more than that.

Nagito just wants to be loved by someone :´(

What's interesting about this is that, more than the "I love him" part, I actually consider the fact that he wants to *understand* Hinata the far more powerful declaration of love, coming from a person like Komaeda.

Can we acknowledge his character though? He is not an "uwu smol". He is very complex. Komaeda has gone through a lot and also has frontotemporal dementia AND lymphoma. And he really just wants to be loved. Looking at his death in chapter 5, it's also clear he is very intelligent. He's probably been leaning on hope and luck most of his life and degrades himself often.

That hand that is pulling him up is totally Hinata. Komahina is (one-sided) canon and I'm not okay

Wow. Megumi Ogata is such a badass seiyuu. How can she sound so much like a male even while singing??

I love Megumi Ogata for this, it's amazing. She must really care about his character to write and perform this. She's more than any fandom could ever hope for. Seriously, what dedication. This really brings Komaeda to life for me. Like I can barely fathom that something like this exists.

let's just keep in mind that the creators confirmed that the "i love, and want to understand him more than anyone else" line is about hinata and it is canon that komaeda had a crush on hinata and that when komaeda asked hinata for his friendship, hinata reacted like he was expecting komaeda to ask more of him and it is canon (at *least* one-sidedly so) brb i'm tearing up

can we just put away the komahina for a moment and admire how deep and good of a character Nagito is? Like seriously, this is making me feel a lot. I really like this song a lot.

This song describes Nagito in so many ways, the most noticeable being that the song on the outside is upbeat and happy while it's inside is extremely sad, just like Nagito, who's upbeat and happy on the outside while he endures so much pain and suffering on the inside.

He's more than just a hope obsessed fan boy. He's another victim of Junko. A person stuck in a vicious cycle of hate and depression. Thinking his luck killed his parents.

I wasn't sure about him until the end of the game, but when it all came together for me... Wow. I think he really is the strongest force of hope in the game, definitely more then the indecisive hajime, and though I love Chiaki she always worked to save her friends, but Nagito was all alone. He was willing to be hated just to bring hope to the world.

I think Nagito does not need a romantic par, although he likes Hinata, he needs friendships, people he can talk to without being judged, romance is good, but for someone like Nagito who has limited life time, I think he needs friends (Sorry for my bad english)

SPOILERS The song nicely ties into one of the game's themes and the nice contrast between Komaeda and Hinata. Komaeda looks up to the Ultimates while considering his "Ultimate Luck" talent worthless by comparison, but ultimately relies on said talent. Meanwhile, Hinata, who actually doesn't have a talent, ultimately realizes that talent isn't as important as believing in himself, and chooses to make his own future.

This song. I'm sure everyone has noticed is Nagito singing about Hajime He will give up everything for hope (Hajime) to overcome despair (Hajime struggles and Hajime creating his own beautiful hope) For the sake of that brilliance, Nagito will give up everything he has. He wants to understand him (Hajime) The world is full of boring people, but Hajime is someone Nagito wants to understand even if Hajime doesn't understand him. This is just a quick summary of what I noticed in the song.

Okay- am I the only one here that isn't either hating him or calling him a cinnamon roll? He did a lot of bad things- and he had some fucked up ideals, but at the same time he had dementia and stage three lymphoma, so he had a reason (among all the other bad shit that happened to him.) like- is he an innocent precious boyo who is just misunderstood? Hell no. But was he fully in the wrong? Also no. Honestly, I feel like he is by far one of the most well written characters, which I guess is why there are such strong opinions on him. "I wish I meet the biggest hope..." Hajime is the Ultimate Hope, he's Izuru Kamukura. "I want to see a desire..." Hajime has the biggest desire to have a talent, to be an Ultimate. "I love, and want to understand him more than anyone else." Through out the game, Nagito wanted to know who Hajime actually is. What talent does he have. Why does he feel a similiarity between the both of them.

I am so gay for Megumi Ogata I can't even- I already was obsessed with her voice since Assassination Classroom but now that I've entered the DanganRonpa fandom, I can no longer stop obsessing over Makoto and Komaeda. I know everyone is talking about the Japanese VA, but I can't get over one other thing. -English VA is also the same for both Naegi and Komaeda -the same VA voiced Tiz Arrior in Bravely Default -Tiz's image song is called "You're my Hope". GUYS IT ALL COMES TO HOPE IT ALWAYS COMES TO HOPE

So, a lot of people seem to think Nagito was only crazy because "IT WAS THE DISEASE MAKING HIM DO BAD THINGS, IT WASN'T REALLY HIM DOING THEM!" Well, the fact is that Nagito was only diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia and Lymphoma right before entering Hope's Peak, and his warped outlook on the world had already manifested before then. Nagito's views about hope and despair are a result of his luck cycle - Nagito has a consistent pattern of experiencing really bad events and then coming out of them unscathed and even better off for it. Nagito himself is protected by his good luck, but everyone around him gets the splash damage from his bad luck and they tend to die. This left him purposely seeking solitude so as to protect the people around him from his bad luck, and is the cause of his obsession with hope - Nagito idolised hope as a coping mechanism which allowed him to deal with the situations he finds himself in regularly as a result of his luck. Over time, this obsession grew and twisted into him believing that only those with talent can embody true hope, and other people are just meaningless trash. His hatred of despair grew as a natural counterpoint to that. Frontotemporal Dementia may account for his weird social behaviours, but it's entirely possible he actually was bullshitting Hajime and he doesn't really have either dementia or lymphoma - remember, Nagito genuinely cares about Hajime and obviously wants him to feel some real compassion for him, telling him a sob story designed to generate sympathy is a good way to do this. The only source of information on it is Nagito's interactions with Hajime, it's not like anyone else can confirm or deny it. Or it could be the truth, but regardless it doesn't fully account for his twisted beliefs. Finally, to everyone saying things like Nagito was the greatest force for hope in SDR2, and that nothing he says is actually wrong, keep in mind, nothing Junko says is technically incorrect either. Nagito may have had ideals and goals which are considered good by most people, but he didn't care at all about the means taken to get there, and he didn't feel any genuine affection and attachment to anyone but Hajime. Nagito is an antagonist first and foremost, and while he may indeed have been a great help to the others - it's true they never would have gotten through most of the trials without him - it was only for the sake of absolute hope, and he couldn't care less about who had to die to reach it. He's *warped* to his core, and was deliberately written that way. He literally only cares about hope overcoming despair, and therefore he believes that an absolute hope can only be created through the existence of absolute despair. He's literally the kind of guy who'd kill someone in order to 'save' the rest without a second thought. And while he may not be as actively malevolent as Junko, he's equally as extreme in his beliefs as she is. In many ways, he's Junko's exact opposite. One purpose of his character is to show that absolutes, no matter which side of the spectrum they are on, are almost never a good thing in reality. Keep in mind BTW, I don't hate Nagito at all, he's my favourite male character and it's his complexity and the depth of his twisted ideals which make him so interesting. But the idealised fangirl version of Nagito doesn't truly represent him any more than the hater's 'evil psychopath' Nagito. He's much, much more complex than either of those interpretations, and simplifying his character to that extent is a disservice to both Nagito's character and Kodaka's writing ability. He's not evil, but neither is he a good person either, and it's important to keep both these thing sin mind about him.

I feel like people treat Nagito like he’s some hope obsessed kid who likes Hinata-

I love Komaeda, not only because his fanart got me into Danganronpa, but also because he’s so complex and has so much depth. Always keeps you on your toes. He’s just such an interesting character

Sometimes, whenever I have a bad day, I come here and listen to this song. I know it's cliched and weird to be feeling so strongly about a song sung by a fictional character, but I just love everything about this. The softness of Komaeda's voice, the feelings Ogata-san purred into it, the "I love and want to understand him more than anyone else" line that makes my KomaHina loving heart beat just a bit faster. He can finally be happy together with his hope, and is given the chance to understand him, just as he can finally understand Komaeda.

I'm very late to SDR2 (did DR1 a long time ago) but Nagito was really a whole journey. I liked him at the start, and then when he became a more dangerous and unpredictable entity sowing chaos everywhere, I kept trying to figure him out while jumping between finding him amusing and annoying. Playing in his perspective both gave me more insight and took some away because they hid what exactly he found out - and what made him make such an abrupt demeanor change. And even in 2-5 while I was reeling at the terrible way to go I didn't know /why/ he would go to such lengths... like what did he see in the files.... And when that is finally revealed, there's too much happening to go back to dissecting Nagito's motivations at that point. But after completing the game, and coming here, the pieces finally clicked. Despite how much he kept seemingly changing during the game, he was always always consistent to his initial character. It doesn't excuse anything he did and how he went about doing it, but he isn't the one changing, it's the circumstances and what he found out that shaped the actions he decided to take. Amazing character.

At the start of the game I just was thinking "shut up nagito" because he talked so much and was so cheery. (Spoilers) Then I began to like him a lot more after chapter 1. His character is amazing. His backstory is so sad. His death was so surprising. I had to take a moment to just process what happened. I still can't believe the pain that he would've felt while waiting for the gass. Team dr did an amazing job on nagito!

I absolute love Nagito. And these lyrics make me love him even more. This song and just his dream makes me want to cry, knowing what ends up happening to him anyway. He sacrificed himself without seeing the ultimate hope but died believing in his luck and hope. It makes this even sadder that he saw no worth in himself or his life. From the beginning to the end, he never loved himself... :,(
