I wonder if their a reference to N hating Pokemon Battles. Instead of training his Pokemon, he gives them Rare Candies to make them stronger without them needing to fight other Pokemon until it's necessary.
I don’t understand the criticism about them being to similar the games. I initially thought the point was to animate moments from the games since the Pokémon anime doesn’t do that. That was literally the whole appeal.
my exact thought! i honestly don't think OP understood entirely what they were going for. Keep in mind these were released following the Pokemon: Orgins series which explicitly retells pokemon red and blue through anime as it was intended initially.
Yeah. He kinda missed with that point, since the entire point of both Evolutions and Generations (the predecessor) are suppose to be reflections of actual in-game events but turned animation. Other than that though, the video was fine.
"The Show" made me realize how weird it was that leafeon and glaceon were unavailable in HGSS without trading. there certainly should have been 7 kimono girls not 5
@Liam198 not blasting the video, but I am just saying there should have been 7 kimono girls in HGSS. being "faithful" does not excuse a poor design choice
@@Ddddddddddd381 I agree but Game Freak could never really find the balance between faithful and remakes, its somewhere between HGSS and ORAS but now we will never know.
@Liam198 Thats for every game that is not like legendary game of the decade, but they can try increasing the number of people that like it, I like every single main series pokemon game even SwSh but BDSP is the most disappointing.
@Liam198 I expected FireRed, a good faithful remake. I like BDSP but unlike other remakes I dont like it for the new stuff but for the old stuff which in my oponion does not define a good remake.
To anyone who didn’t notice , at the end of the Kanto episode, we learn that it happened at the same time as when ash found metan (I believe)because you hear oak talking on the phone about “a Pokémon made completely out of metal” which is the exact conversation he had with ash near the end of the sun and moon series, when ash finds meltan
@@silly_h1jinx I guess that could work but timeline wouldn't match up since the let's go rival, protagonist, and leaf are trying to complete the Pokedex for Kanto, plus Red exists in the Let's Go games and ash was supposed to be the stand-in for Red in season 1 of the anime
I find it odd that Green is depicted as being a Pokedex Holder alongside Trace and Elaine, rather than with Red and Blue. The games kind of depict them together, alongside the manga.
She looks older than them, so this might actually be inspired by the manga Green, she had a mischievous side by the end of the manga after stopping the criminal act. The Let's go games play somewhere before the second Gen as Red isn't emo yet, so she is between 12-14 in this episode probably.
@Abhay Kamath I agree but evolutions still had a darker more serious tone than the main Pokémon Anime which always seems extremely light hearted with jokes constantly and nonstop gags. Something can be made for kids and still have mature themes. When I was a kid I never liked the Pokémon Anime because compared to other Anime it never took itself serious and you knew Team Rocket would interrupt any tension in the episode, Ash would never evolve his Pokémon, never win the Pokémon league and never keep his strong Pokémon or catch legendaries.
@Abhay Kamath the fact that Green had fully evolved Pokémon, went in Cerulean cave and attempted to catch MewTwo made it more serious than anything Ash ever attempted to do. Also the fact Green was in the episode if you ever read her manga it def wasn’t for kids they censored it so hard in America.
@@laidbackgaming2417 because mewtwo in the anime is actually a written character that has actual personality not a fucking dead fish you can catch then just leave
Of those the Pokémon Evolutions episodes, my absolute favorite was The Show, which focused on Kimono Girls and the lore of Lugia. The second best of the series was The Wish which repeated the first half of Delta episode. Anyway, Evolutions was a really awesome and beautyful series and complements the Pokémon Generations series.
Yep. Super beautiful. It's great to imagine that this is the Ecruteak we travel to in the games: the festival, the human-pokemon unity and the two having fun together and the best of all, the show itself. Great to see how they would use Pokemon for special effects. Edit : Morty's Gengar and the little totodile were the cutest🐊
Notably, that story they were telling has shown up on 4 separate occasions in the anime, but always when talking about Ho-oh's role. That Evolutions episode is the first ever instance of us finding out Lugia also used to live in a human-built tower.
I love the fact that you see the player character in this series just to show that despite everything portrayed you still have some way of connecting with the world shown
For real! Probably one of my favorite points because it actually connects the player character into the story. Also it’s just nice to see main character representation.
A very small but definitely appreciated detail I love regarding Pokemon Origins and Evolutions is how the Pokemon don't actually speak their names. They actually make sounds and noises more like animals, like monsters. It gives it a real cool sense of realism to it in a way, instead of just these monsters speaking their names repeatedly in a cheesy way. I adore the more animalistic sounds.
My favorite had to be the show. I always wanted to see the Kimono girls put on their show the way they did in Evolutions. This really helped show the lore of Lugia in a way that's truly satisfying to watch, as well as them redesigning the Kimono girls to each look more like their Eeveelution of choice was another great addition to the episode to make each and every one of them stand out visually. The totodile in the crowd trying to help put out the fire got a nice chuckle out of me. I grew up playing pokemon crystal so this episode just really hit home that feeling I had when I first explored the Johto region when I was a kid.
Even though I love everything Pokémon related, I am on record multiple times saying that I am not a fan of the anime. I wish I was, but I simply can't get into. So, these little series they put out are gold to me, and Evolutions was another amazing one! The Wish is without a doubt my favourite!
I think it’s been a good mix having the main series anime on going and making the web animations every so often with this tone. Because then there’s something for everyone. I wonder if they’re considering making them more often, maybe even yearly. Since Twilight Wings was just the year before Evolutions. Maybe something for Legends Arceus during the summer?
@Abhay Kamath nah, the animations and way the stories are presented are far more mature than the anime. especially than the english versions of the anime. where they have clown music in the background all throughout every episode
Personally, I was very happy to see my favorite character Zinnia again. I think it's a shame that such an interesting character with so much potential gets so few appearances.
Episode 8 (The Discovery) was my favorite (though I liked every episode of course). Green is definitely my favorite female character from Kanto, and they absolutely did her justice in this episode alongside Elaine and even Trace. My favorite male character from Kanto (Blue) only got a cameo (and they gave him Venusaur for some reason) but that's okay, because he was prominently featured alongside Red in Pokémon Origins & Pokémon Generations. This was finally Green's time to be the main focus.
Because Green got Blastoise (accurate to manga and Let's Go) and they gave Red a Charizard since he is so popular with it (accurate to origins). There was nothing but Venusaur for Blue :P
Many character appeared here are the one usually rarely appeared or never appeared at all in other source and whose popularity got sidelined by their male/female counterpart, (Green, Elaine, Trace, Victor, Lucas(fave guy), Hilda (fave girl), Calem, and even Selene (protagonist from SM never made any anime appearances and the fact that her USUM version are the one being presented is even make it more rare occasions). Im so GLAD!! Now I just want to see Chase and Elio (hopefully in USUM version).
Because one's a series of 6 minute shorts, and one's an anime that has to air continuously ad infinitum. They're not even remotely comparable, and Evolutions wouldn't be anything like it was if it had to be 140+ full-length episodes tasked with introducing every Pokemon.
@@phoemix7043 Well Pokemon isn't going to be like other anime. It's a show like Sazae-san or Anpanman, shows for kids/families that will continue in perpetuity. And that's perfectly fine, not every anime needs to be the same, and you have stuff like Twilight Wings, Poketoons, and Evolutions if you want something else.
@@phoemix7043 yeah good luck convince millions of kids across the world to not watch their favorite cartoon. Thats super possible. Plus pokemon is pretty par for the course for that it is, not really that terrible.
Pokémon Evolutions encapsulates everything that I love about Pokémon.. on top of being absolutely visually stunning to watch, it has such incredible themes, story, characters, and storytelling devices. It really reminds me how much I love Pokémon; from the anime, movies, games, trading cards and merchandise, Pokémon will forever be my favorite media franchise.
The Plan 📜 The Wish 🌠 The Show 🎭 and The Discovery 🔍 are still currently tied for 1st place for me. Lmao. Of course... That could change and my favorite might surprise even ME in the future when I just absorb everything about these episodes. There's a reason that the fans (especially the older fans) adore the web series like _Generations_ , _Origins_ , and even the recent _Poketoons_ . They feel SO mature without having to be like "edgy" or anything like that. Honestly that one episode of Poketoons with the young girl trainer and the Nidoran is one of my all time favorites and by the end of it, I literally was like "I want to see an entire series centered around HER and her journey". For years to come, these web series will be very SPECIAL to fans of the franchise... Whether you're new altogether or you've been with us since the beginning.
@Abhay Kamath Meh, those two episodes aren not _that_ childish imo but are certainly much lighter in tone compared to the rest of the episodes and given the games they're representing and portraying, it makes sense. That hasn't stopped me from ranking them at the top. I enjoyed the four episodes I mentioned for different reasons. Even if the Kanto and Johto episodes don't share the same tone.
I loved these. Animation was great and the stories were generally good. This with Twilight Wings, Generations shows that Pokemon can create an effective anime with Ash ketchum although he's very iconic to the franchise
The Discovery was a big hit for me, not the battling, but the end. I remember being so happy when I finally beat the Elite four in Let’s Go Eevee. I think your Pokémon giving you the bouquet of flowers really tops it off, it’s just really sweet. I was much more connected with my Eevee than in previous games with other starters, and even newer ones, too :D
That is so true! Pokemon Evolution had so really good art and storyline ideas into it. Including showing the MC in the series instead of Ash this time. With this kind of animation around, Pokemon could have made another new anime where Ash was never always the main character, but to see other characters from the game as well. But the question is, do you think we should see more Pokemon evolution more often then Pokemon Journey?
I think it’s a good idea they’ve been doing the web series more often. Cause we had Twilight Wings just the year before this. I’d love if that would be the case we’re the mail series airs on TV as usual and then at some point we get the web series in this style. Hopefully future ones can be longer.
@@tylerensminger Wanna know what's also funny? Christina Vee is also the voice of Darkness in the Konosuba dub. Konosuba has darkness say some pretty lewd things so just imagining Ladybug say those things 😆
My favorites were “The Show,””The Visionary” and “The Discovery” although they were all really good. The thing that I didn’t realize until today was that the they went the opposite order of how the games were released. Starting at 8 and going to 1 in a descending order.
Hey Gator I just wanted to say I always enjoy your videos, you cover interesting topics from a wide range of Pokemon media. Your passion for the franchise in all it's facettes shrines through and I hope your channel continues to grow and gets the attention it imo deserves!
The Eclipse made me very emotional. Sun and Moon are my favorite in the series and the emotional moments are made even better with the SPECTACULAR animation and incredible voice acting. My heart…
Pokémon Evolutions was so amazing! Every episodes were wonderful and each of its animation were gorgeous. My favorites are The Wish (Episode 6), The Show (Episode 7), and The Discovery (Episode 8) as well as The Champion (Episode 1)
I rlly gotta watch more of these pokemon short series like evolutions or hisuian snow, I watched all of twilight wings when it came out and that series BANGED!
@@Swordsmaster heyyyyy i too own the manga from RGB but only till DPP! And I think everyone that has read the manga agrees that it MUST get an Anime adaptation.
I personally prefer the first half of Pokemon Evolutions instead of the latter half. The first episode with Leon and the third episode with Lysandre were my favorite one major criticism I personally had with Leon as a character is that he is the flawless always happy Gary Sue and it never felt like he earned that? Cynthia may be in a similar position but she has more to her character, having vested interests in mythology as well as having an aura of mystery and legacy which is the highlight to her charm whereas Leon always seemed to step in and take away action from Victor/Gloria. However, the Pokemon Evolutions short really expanded on the psyche of Leon, that he isn’t this happy smiley perfect champion but rather he has his own fears, his own anxieties and his own failures which bring him down. This short really helped humanize Leon instead of leaving him as the one dimensional character he is in the games. Episode 3 did something I hope more shorts will do in the future: clearing up the plot and changing our perception entirely on the character. Gen 6 did not clearly show Lysandre’s motivations, why he wanted this perfect world etc etc. I loved how this short showed the charismatic Lysander side by side by the cruel man we saw in xy trying to commit a mass genocide as well as helping us understand his incentive; ultimately it clarifies the plot of the games and essentially fixes the games where it needs fixing in an animated medium
The Unova one is my favourite easily, and the Hoenn one is my 2nd favourite. I love this series 👌 Also thank you for using the Black & White credits theme, it’s such a perfect ending theme for any epic video about Pokémon like this one
Evolutions had a rough start, but the latter half was consistently pretty good (except the Barry episode, wow that was bad in multiple ways). The Kanto bias was absolutely still going strong though. Kanto got a lovingly rendered and complete little story, while all Kalos got was a rehash of events already animated in Generations.
@Liam198 And if it got the treatment that the Kalos episode got, it would have been 5 minutes long and 90% of it would have been a fairly static fight against Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave.
@Liam198 It doesn't debunk your claim, because there's nothing to debunk (in fact, your original comment had very little to do with what I said in the first place, but that's besides the point). Not every reply in a comment section is an argument where you're trying to debunk the person you're responding to.
@Liam198 Except there isn't anything to agree or disagree with? You just posted a non-sequitur about how the Kanto episode is based on Let's Go, which is not only incredibly obvious but has absolutely nothing to do with what I said (that Kanto got preferential treatment as usual, evident in how reverently it's treated and all the stuff packed in the episode compared to others like Kalos). You seem to be very confused.
I feel like Pokémon could be so entirely more popular (than it already is) and even more so be brought back with a proper animated tv series. Not specifically targeted towards kids but a an older audience with more teen and adult themes. It’s an amazing IP and it’s said there’s no proper adaptation outside of children tv shows
Man, seeing how good a serious Pokemon show can be with quality animation I really wish they'd adapt Adventures, it's definitely the perfect show to make considering it's pretty mature for Pokemon (and a lot of long time fans would love it)
My favorites were The Eclipse, The Show, and The Discovery. The fight between Nerozma and Lunala was so dope with its fast pace action and fluid animations. For the show I like how they presented the lore with pokemon moves as special effects. And I love how funny and adventurous The Discovery was. The rest I didn't care about since they were just recaps
honestly Pokemon evolution IS what the Pokemon anime should be, a new season with an ever-changing cast of character different stories adapted from the game instead of just continuously following ash...
Honestly, one of my favorites was actually The Visionary, because the first game that introduced me to Pokémon, was Pokémon Y, and seeing Prof. Sycamore in the animation style of Evolutions, chef kiss
the necrozma-lunaala fight was truly amazing, definetly my favorite episode. to me the fact that lillie is the protagonist just makes it even better, shes one of my favorite characters
Yeah the reason why the light gets dimmed is so that people with light sensitivities are able to watch without risking harm, as someone who’s partner is light sensitive, its a really thoughtful inclusion
Ah, okay. I had suspected that’s why. Cause I know they’ll sometimes do that in the main series anime. Especially with later airings of the first series.
I do like the version of this Barry from Pokémon Evolutions: The Rival because apart of the improvement of the character design he's not like Barry from Pkemon Diamond and Pearl Series, who is over confident, annoying, have bad memories and trying to training style similar to Paul since he's a big fan of his.
I wish Pokemon make a longer animated series with the same concept in which they unfold the lore and the history of the events in the pokemon games. Instead creating new characters, they should focus more on the characters and events that aren't much known yet in terms of it's history
Two episodes I really want to talk about are The Rival and The Wish. I was originally turned off by The Rival because it didn't feature one of the things I always associate with Barry, his hyperactiveness. On rewatch though, I saw as more of a different perspective on a character similar to Leon. A usually upbeat and confident guy now sitting back and thinking about the horrifying events before. While it's still not one of my favourites I can definitely see and respect what the writers were going for, especially focusing on Barry's motivation of surpassing his father. The Wish to me was definitely some of the most improvement a story got from the game. Gonna keep it honest here, I didn't like the Delta Episode and besides design, didn't like Zinnia either. I think it was a great idea to focus more around the end of the DE because that's where I think it's at it's best. The imagery here really helped me get immersed and understand Zinnia's story 10 times more than I did in the games. Overall a standing ovation from me.
There is a reason whenever Pokemon gives us something more mature, it's always better than the main series. I hope Pokemon learns from this and makes Ash's journey in Paldea a bit more mature, and then I might actually start watching the anime again.
I found it weird that Concordia says "there is nothing more beautiful and terrifying than innocence" _to N's face._ Not only does it change the context, but it's also kind of rude lol.
I really loved the Eclipse. My second favorite (Second to the wish). It makes sense for the flashbacks since it's essentially Lillie hyping herself up toward the alter and furthers her resolve
Seeing Pokemon Evolution and other animated shorts that doesn't involve Ash gets me hoping that They will Make an anime adaptation of the Pokemon Adventures Manga someday.
I like how this is a seperate anime apart from the core anime and before you say how this has better animqtion than the anime as the main anime has to air every week and this special only has 8 epidodes so it obviously each episode has a higher animation quality over tge main one which has a lower budget for each episoee
pokemon company is far more wealthy than smaller studios also making weekly content with far better animation. they just choose to not give their animators time. sun and moon and pokemon journeys has great animation tho imo
