Here's one for ya... Due to a programming error in gen 1, Not only were psychic types actually immune to Ghost types(a fact everyone knows) but Bugs were Both weak against AND Super Effective against Poison types... this made Beedrill the single best bug in gen1, due to being useful against Poison, bug, Tangela(specifically), and Psychic... also, The only grass type In gen 1 to actually HAVE a weakness to poison Was Tangela, as the rest were ALSO poison types. There ya go. Facts that sound completely false.
I don't consider the Speed stat in Pokemon to be an actual measure of movement speed, I consider it more as a measure of reflex speed and comprehension speed. More about how fast a Pokemon can react to attacks or commands from its trainer versus how fast it can physically move.
Don't quote me on this but I did see in a few different videos that, in Japanese, the naming used for the speed Stat actually translates to reaction time rather than movement speed
It's Dex. Dexterity. Agility. Nimbleness of the movement of joints. Reaction time. Not actual Movement Speed. For example, Usain Bolt is an example of Physical Speed... yet a Gymnast or fencer Would Easily outspeed him in terms of Dexterity and Agilty. This is the same thing.
Some Pokemon actually shrink when they evolve. Examples of this are Gengar, Dragonite or Bellossom. And can you imagine that Tangela could not learn Vine Whip in Red and Blue?
The interview with Ishihara should have been translated as "They turned Pikachu into something like a tiger with huge _pecs."_ The Japanese word for both breasts and pecs is the same, and by all accounts the design would have looked similar to Incineroar but Electric type.
I was actually going to comment calling cap on that fact. Figured if anything it would be a muscle bound chest to fall in line with the buff hero aesthetic that was so popular like He-Man, Lion-O, Hulk, etc. I speculated it was BS because Japanese devs literally have a Pokémon who's theme is having large breast on its head(magmar) and it's actual name is Boober... And there's Nidoqueen who would grab and jiggle them in Pokémon stadium. This is from a country whose age of consent was 13 for years and they have lewd art depicting lolis printed on buses and stuff there. If they denied a pikachu with breast, it only be because they didn't think of it first lol
The reaspn kekleon couldn't lewrn camouflage was because the move would be useless due to it's ability. You didn't have access to it's hidden ability till generations later. So they added it. Even still it's pretty useless as the hidden ability is similar.
No wonder Miltank was the bane of Gen II! And that Starmie thing… yeah, I’ll take the purr sound over that! Lockstin did a video recently about Lickitung and Lick, made sense with all the context.
Another thing not mentioned is that Dugtrio is faster than both Milano and Purrugly, somehow, despite needing to do all the extra work of burrowing through the ground
Funfact: In biology, evolution does not exactly mean improvement. I'm in no way a science expert, but I heard this in school and did not forget. On a simple google search: Evolution does not always lead to more advanced species. Evolution is simply a description of the way change occurs in biological creatures over many generations in order to better exploit a certain environment. Evolution sometimes leads to progress, but it sometimes leads in the opposite direction. For instance, the Texas blind salamander has lost his eyes after many generations of evolution due to the uselessness of eyes in the dark caves where he dwells. As reported by biologist David M. Hillis, these salamanders have successfully adapted to their environment by loosing their eyes. But going blind does not seem to be much in the way of progress from a global perspective. So Evolution is not necessarily something that makes your Pokémon stronger.
I mean, Gen VII not having any fossils makes perfect sense. Recently-formed volcanic islands aren't going to have any fossils... but alternately, they could've been given to you by a tourist or something
Aurorus and Amaura can learn Aurora Beam, but not Aurora Veil (except by breeding), which is just ridiculous, seeing as they're _literally called Aurora_
Yeah, look at Golduck for example, it swims faster than any other Pokemon but it's speed stat is in the middle. That doesn't count for actual raw speed.
@@KanSanyara If nothing else in the world says that then look at Dark Souls. Panic Rolling is Fast Reflexes. But they are Not Good Reflexes for sure. XD
What I don't understand about the whole "certain pokemon not being able to learn certain moves that they obviously should" problem is that, for some reason, the creators seem to keep UNLEARNING their own lesson, meaning that, yes, some pokemon that couldn't learn whatever move that they should have been able to in the beginning do end up learning said moves later on. But then, they just turn right back around and make the exact same mistake AGAIN with a different pokemon!
I mean, some of those mistakes could probably be because of it was originally designed in Japanese and translations came after. Sure they could have edited it before releasing but this is The Pokemon Company who has very unkind schedules in dev time. (For comparison, gen 1 was given MORE dev time than any other gen period, up to a year longer if I remember correctly. And that was a gen in colorless 2D sprites with a myriad of bugs and only 151 pokemon, fully offline too.)
6:50 The thing about that is, both of it's abilities (Color Change and Protean) already change its type. There isn't really any reason for it to learn Camouflage except for flavor.
Hearing Staryu french voice. Me: Seems fine. Hearing Starmie's french voice. Me: Uum. Did someone switch the audio for something age restricted? Edit: Finding out what French Goldeen sounds like. Me: Seriously.
Aipom is easily explained as Tail Slap being created as a signature move for Minccino before they just decided it wasn't anymore as also the Japanese name is "Sweep Slap" which is far less relevant to Aipom or Ambipom Considering Lick was exclusive to ghost and the yokai based Jynx it may not have gotten it because it was originally intended to be a more supernatural move (which would also be why it was ghost rather than normal like Bite was)
Another 3 facts that sound fake, specifically about abilities: -Chien-Pao’s sword of ruin, decreasing all defense stats besides its own, doesn’t effect Zamazenta-Crowned for some reason -Weesing’s neutralizing gas ignores some abilities, such as Protosynthesis and As One. -Sheer Force classifies life orb damage as an additional effect, despite not being tied to any move, so sheer force users with Life orb take no damage from it. This means that Rampardos with this set can reach a 400 attack stat *before stab*
On the subject of "Why in the absolute FUCK does this Pokemon not learn this?!", frankly I'm still baffled to this day that Rotom-Wash's token Water-type move wasn't Scald, considering it's inhabiting the body of a washing machine and most (if not all) washing machines tend to have several warm and hot wash settings
More facts: Dispite coming out of eggs, Pokemon have belly buttons. No joke. Oshawott and Incineroar are confirming examples and arguably the forces of nature cause the Bulbapedia mentions their navels. For Oshawott: If the scalchop is heavily damaged or lost, Oshawott can grow a new one from its navel. For Incineroar: it's flame belt is produced by a flame in its navel
I literally fell upon a video about how... Weird Starmie sounded in the french dub earlier today, and thinked it was one of those fake meme videos. There is no way this is real, and the worst part is i'm actually french and never even heard Starmie do that in the anime before.
Well, despite the original designs for pokemon being dropped and given the alt designs we know and love. It didn't stop the internet from fulfilling that original vision....
I think you might have misunderstood. What we know and love are the original designs (with subtle changes over the years). The proposed alt designs were dropped. Officially speaking, Pikachu was never given boobs in the games or anime in the first place. The American team proposed the alt designs like giving Pikachu boobs, among other proposed changes that never saw the light of day (that is until, as you said, the internet).
Yep, as a French, I grew up with Starmie's cry, and it has been stuck in my head since... Every time I see Starmie, now, I can't think about anything else..!
What fans do is acknowledged more than you'd think. Lapras's dex entry went from saying that they were endangered to saying that they're common because of someone who did a lot of Lapras breeding. Shiny and Eeveelution are fanmade terms that became official. A trainer can be found in a place with wild vaporeon who says "Hey! Do you know..." in Scarlet and Violet. Bellibolt's design is based off the Tentaquil mandela effect.
I agree that the lack of “traditional” Fossil Pokémon is pretty bad. Gen 2 was the first to skip out on them, but they returned in Gen 3 - 6. Then, went absent again for three Gen’s. Kinda sad to think that there are many prehistoric creatures that have yet to receive Pokémon counterparts, let alone ones that can be restored as they once were and not a mixture of two.
Cannot believe that's how Starmie and Staryu were sounded even if it's just one version of the anime. So many hidden adult-oriented moments in Pokemon across various countries you could almost think that it's a hidden hentai series LOL. Also regarding the Poison-Type thing and the moves, that's just the thing about Gen 1 being the first one, which makes it a much less developed Gen. And regarding the speed stat, like others mentioned, this is not actual speed, but rather reaction time. Look at Golduck for example, it swims faster than any other Pokemon but it's speed stat is in the middle. That doesn't count for actual raw speed.
@@RoyArkon Your first part, about the "you could almost think it's a hidden hentai series". He did a Pokémon manga that had to be severely edited even for Japanese audiences because he made it so overtly sexual.
My headcanon for Speed stat issues is that speed actually means “reactions” which explain the bugs and purugly. It’s much more reasonable to have a cow with better reactions than a giant bird
The biggest offender of a Pokemon that has never naturally learned a move that it by all rights should is Drowzee/Hypno. They have never learned Dream Eater by level up, only TM! THEIR ENTIRE BIT IS EATING DREAMS!!!
In defense of the chameleon pokemon not knowing camouflage for a decade, chameleons actually don't usually use their color changing for camouflage. It's used for communication and social awareness.
I'm surprised Zapdos was never able to learn Pin Missile. It should be able to in theory, as it should be able to electrically charge and shoot it's feathers in a Wing Shards style fashion. I've also felt that Mewtwo should be able to learn Fly since it did fly away at the end of the first movie and can learn Aerial Ace in Generations 4 through 7. People though have argued that Mewtwo is levitating, not flying, but you know.
To be fair about Kecleon, it's actually a misconception that chameleons change colour to camouflage themselves. While they technically CAN, they most often just run away from predators because they're extremely fast, and they use colour changing for social purposes, like expressing emotional states, or they use it for things like cooling themselves down or warming themselves up.
ZA is set in the Kalos region so it is entirely possible that the game features a return of traditional fossils unless they choose to continue with the precedent Legends: Arceus set by time travel before certain technologies making fossil revival impossible
Being an American and an avid gamer in the 1990s I cannot think of a single thing that NoA would have considered unpalatable about cute designs. This is the same company whose advertising for Final Fantasy 6 (or "3" as it was called then) focused entirely on a very very adorable and very MINOR character because he looks like a teddy bear. They thought putting a cute face front and center was going to be the best way to sell this game. He's on the posters, he's on the game cover, he's in the commercial. No sign of the ACTUAL main characters anywhere!
it sounds like total BS, especially as Kirby and Hello Kitty were already big in the US then why would they alter the breakout character and star of the anime like that? especially after it was already infamous in the US due to the anime’s seizure fiasco
@@bostonrailfan2427 Yeah I have no idea. Though this would have been before that incident since localizing games takes a long time and the games only came out in the US a few months later. But yeah, cute sells and it sold even in the 1990s.
@@BJGvideos unless i misheard, it was the anime not the game…so the alterations would’ve happened during the dubbing and makes zero sense at all since it would’ve cost a huge amount to reanimate Pikachu that way and Pikachu wasn’t the focus of the first two games released, it was the third game that he was- over two years after the games and anime were released in the US
@@bostonrailfan2427 Heck it's only the mascot because it won a popularity poll. Early stuff uses Clefairy a lot heavier, and in the first story based manga (as opposed to four panel gag stories) the Red expy had a Clefairy as a partner.
Its crazy how a fat cat is faster than legendary Pokémon based on literal jet planes! ✈️ Also @13:20 is that why Primal Groudon in the remakes also later becomes Fire/Ground while Primal Kyogre stays pure water type?
i feel like the speed stat does not and never has described a pokemon's literal top travel speed in ideal conditions. its like initiative in d&d, it describes reaction time. it's still kinda silly that miltank is faster than all those legendaries but yeah
This fat ugly cat" 😂 i love that you said that, it was the Pokemon that took out by first Pokemon in the game it was introduced... Made it my enemy from then on... Screw that car
I hope they will never introduce another old type of fossil Pokémon again. I really hate that all of them are half rock type. That's why Dracovish is my favorite fossil Pokémon ever And I have always thought that the speed stat is not a reference of how fast a Pokémon runs or fly, but a reference of how fast are their reactions in a battle
This is a well known one, but my favorite dumb stat discrepancy is Oddish the baby flower onion bulb has a higher attack Stat tha Onix the giant ass rock snake made if literal boulders
