Pokémon Stadium: Vs Mewtwo 

This Mewtwo battle still sticks out to me as one of the Genetic Pokémon’s best in the entire franchise alongside the first movie. It really shows that after clearing challenge after challenge, every battle harder than the last, you think you’ve won it all…then almost as if it senses you’re worthy to battle it, it’s silhouette affects the stadium around you (day turns to night) and spirits you away to another realm where there’s no announcer, no spectators, none of your friends or family in attendance to see the fight; you’re all alone with the Pokémon you won with, face-to-face with the world’s most powerful Pokémon, in an unfamiliar ethereal space. And the only way to escape is to win. All the while that intense battle music is playing in the background. I’m sure for the actual 10-year-old Pokémon trainers who’ve played this game in 2000, their hearts were just beating like drums and sweating bullets trying to use everything they’ve learned to get to this point. This was the perfect setup for the final battle in Pokémon Stadium and I’m sorry, Pokémon hasn’t been able to hold a candle to how Mewtwo was handled as it was here. Maybe Team Rainbow Rocket comes a close second but still, talk about EPIC.

Kinda funny that Mewtwo is a trainer that sends itself to the battle (even with a poké ball)

Mewtwo was (and still is) DANGEROUS back in the day. R-2 is the real challenge. I ironically have a perfect IV Mewtwo in my Red copy with the same moves as such. Very fun to make mine go 1 on 1 with it. Occasionally I did beat him with rentals, but that's tricky.

Movement animations Different facial expressions various movements to reflect different moves And models with varying reactions to different environmental conditions. This is when pokemon was at its best.

Funny to see Ditto (a possibly failed clone of mew) defeating Mewtwo (the most succsesful clone of mew).

As a kid, I used to play this battle and spend a lot of time doing nothing just to enjoy the extremely catchy music. As an adult, I bought it on the net and still listen to it.

Even if the battle itself wasn't the greatest spectacle in the world, that was still a solid strategy. Well played.

I was raised by pokemon stadium. I never made it to this point but this battle makes mewtwo so menacing than in other games.

He doesn't dissappear he blends in with sky but you can rematch him any time

Um did you know Reflect's effect lift out if the user switches out, it only applied to the user rather than your entire team in Gen 1

"I don't think it worked so well" He says, but did you see how much RNG that was? Aside from Flash missing, all 4 Blizzards landed, confuse lasted two turns, effectively saving ditto from certain faint. Only thing that could have made this even more of a stomp is to freeze hax him with the first two blizzards.

Could have used tail whip a few times so he would punish himself for messing up. Or hyper beam with mr mime for a nice spectacle lol

More care and attention went into these models then all of the mainline 3d games combined.

Classic Game classic battle I remember when I was a kid Mewtwo literally KO my whole team that had 6 Pokémon

I never beat Pokemon Stadium as a kid, and I probably never will. Probably because I didn't complete the GBA games and just stuck with rentals. In fact, when I first saw this years later, I thought it was a ROM hack.

God this theme right here is the best Mewtwo's ever goten, sure the one from origins is good but pales in comparison to this

I found it funny that most of these sprites were reused in colosseum and XD but makes sense as Nintendo owns both series as well as Pokémon itself

Can you re challenge Mewtwo in Round 1 at any time after beating it, or do you have to clear Round 2 and unlock that Mewtwo battle in order to challenge it again?

Haha its a clasic move or strategy i always did in this game as child whitout knowing anything english xD To do paralyze every enemy pokemon to get the first turn priority I did it with raichu paralyze 😅 -Mewtwo looks so bad ass here -i still dont know how the hell i could beat it when i had 13 years 🤣

I am thinking about my strategy when I've beaten Mewtwo with an Electrode (Thunderwave, Flash) and a Rattata with Super Fang and Quick Attack... but something is missing in this strategy... tried it about 2 years ago and it worked everytime. Guess I have to start my N64 again^^

Useing rentles agasnt mewtwo is never recamended. But if you can do it it does prove your a skilled pokemon master

Snorlax : body slam into Self-destruct. This is better. Light screen don't work if you switch. Go learn the Gen1.

I remember making it this far and i almost lost i had just snorlax and electrode i use self destrust on mewto then snorlax came out then mewtwo use rest it was so close i wom wit hyperbeam and mewteo fell finally after beating all 5 of my pokemon
