My mother came to Scotland from New Zealand after the 2nd World War - My sister and I were brought up with her teaching us this beautiful song and learning all the names of places on North Island.
I love Maori songs and specially this one. My niece is living in NZ and I'm her antipode on the other side of the world. Wbr from Austria..... NOT Australia.... hahaha
Pōkarekare ana, ngā wai o Waiapu Whiti atu koe hine, marino ana e. E hine e, hoki mai ra Ka mate ahau i te aroha e. Tuhituhi taku reta, tuku atu taku rīngi Kia kite tō iwi, raru raru ana e. E hine e, hoki mai ra Ka mate ahau i te aroha e.
Oh wow, not heard this sung nigh on 20 years..I remember a young New Zealand singer singing here at the Brit Awards can't remember her name though. It's the kind of song that sticks in your head once you hear it. Both of you sing beautifully. Thank you.
In the early 70s, my school principal was a gentleman from NZ, he taught us Haka and this lovely song . I remembered the wonderful tune. Having seen a TV programme on Māori, I recall this song after it was sang by someone on the series ! I wish to thank my principal , Mr Bloomfield for this classic song . May God bless you and your loved ones . The singers in this Utube video sang very well . Thank you for the lyrics . James lim. Brunei
What a beautiful recording. I am singing this at my daughter's wedding in July as she is marrying a New Zealander and thought it would be nice. It has really helped me with the pronunciation, thank you so much for putting this online, just gorgeous
@@cparkplay This song is also in Korean called Yeon-ga which is why some Korean know this song 👍 Māori soldier taught the song to Korean children during WWII
Thanks for sharing. Lovely version. You both sing and harmonise beautifully. Enjoy listening and have played a number of times. Reminds me of my aunties singing and my grandad 😊
Mum used to sing this to me when I was a bub. I was born in Otahuhu but grew up in Australia. Have not been back since '87 when Pop passed, I was eight years old then. I am now 42, and I want to come and see Aotearoa and learn about it... fkn covid :( Thank you for this video, it's beautiful.
@@cparkplay I came up with the idea of recording the song fingerstyle after watching your vid. Thanks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HObrWuRkZbs.html
Really loved this. I'm an expat Kiwi living in the UK. I'm older sadly and cannot return to NZ even to visit. I'd love to learn Maori language here but cannot find anywhere. Arohanui ñ
So good I had to watch 3 times...made me home sick for New Zealand Then I realised you are not in New Zealand...your te Reo is better than some Kiwi's Kia Kaha from Perth Western Australia
너무나 감미롭고 마음이 편해지는 노래입니다. 두 분의 아름다운 모습과 감미로운 목소리는 천상의 소리입니다. 고맙습니다. It's such a sweet and soothing song. Your beautiful appearance and sweet voice are heavenly. Thank you!
While I love Kiri Te Kanawa’’s version of this, I actually LOVE your version more. Not quite so soprano and easier to sing (and listen to) for those of us with lower registers. Well done ladies, an amazing rendition.
Ah, wahine pai. A very good format to assist on the journey to fluency. Remember you learn one word at time. Fluency is from fluid. It flows from the heart. Don't push the river.
Te hira hoki. Absolutely tops. Love this version an the eyes my.3 yr old g.child just lit up an the smile spoke volumes of the pleasure that this waita brought to her. More pls
Like No.367👍 I'm really happy to watch this song in Maori. This is soooooo beautiful. This song was first introduced here in Korea in 1971 and still very popular. One question: Could I add my ukulele playing to this and upload on my channel?
@@cparkplay Thank you for allowing me to do it. As for Korean versions, the 1st one was released by 'Bubble Gum' (duet composed of man and woman) in 1972 and 2nd one was done by 'Eun Hee' (female singer) in 1972 also. The lyrics were translated into Korean and the interesting thing is this song has long been popular like a textbook for those who start learning acoustic guitar. Currently I upload every Thursday (11AM Korea Time). I will record my playing in the next few days. Hope you like my uke playing to be added. I will revert to you once uploaded. Cheers!
