Instead of Full Metal Body, i would've given Solgaleo an ability called Sun Eater, that not only makes it immune to fire, but also removes the harsh sun.

Some of my favourite ironic type weaknesses are fish whose weakness is water (stunfisk), frogs whose weakness is bugs (greninja), scarecrows whose weakness is birds (cacturne), a pig whose weakness is mud (tepig), a dog whose weakness is bones (houndour) and spiders who are at disadvantage against flies (just about any spider pokémon you can name). And for maximum irony, the orb weaver, which spins suspended webs for catching flies, is disadvantaged against flies, but not the tarantula, whose webs are spun at the mouths of their burrows, meaning they can't catch airborne targets. I mean I guess some tarantulas are called birdeaters, though they don't eat birds that often, but that doesn't explain why a tarantula, which is one of the few arthropods to easily die from a fall, is more resistant to sky drop than just about any other bug type (even some with wings). What I think takes the cake though is how many herbivorous pokémon have a grass weakness. Elephants, hippos, bovines and deer are all known to eat grass, but being poked by a leaf is apparently a death sentence to donphan, hippowdon, slowpoke, terrakion or ting lu. And, of course, rhydon, which gets another compound weakness in grass. Poor guy finds eating a hazard thanks to Gamefreak's determination to make Brock's gym as easy as possible. I'll also say that there are a few general type interactions which don't make sense with certain moves, which I've always thought should be tweaked to be exceptions. Flying being immune to ground makes perfect sense if we're talking an earthquake, and marowak getting STAB for its signature attack makes sense, but a projectile like bonemerang being incapable of hitting a flying target makes no sense at all. Similarly, it makes sense for steel types to have an immunity to poison attacks, which usually affect body systems that an inorganic metal thing probably doesn't have, or are venom-based, which would require penetration, which naturally, would be a hard task on a metal target, and it does make sense that acid is a poison type move, considering it's basically a malignant, chemical compound, but acid not being able to affect a steel type when metal dissolves in acid makes no sense. The fact that these moves weren't fixed when freeze dry was invented, and given a bypass to water's ice resistance seems pretty ridiculous to me, really.

Tympole is a round, tadpole-like Pokémon with a tan, circular face. It has large, oval, black eyes; a wide mouth with down-turned corners; and black eyebrows in the shape of quarter notes. I feel like the Pokemon world reflects the real world in a sense that there’s inherent complexities and nuances that are hard to rationalize and make sense of, especially considering it’s a fictional series. At some point it gets tiring to sort out so I just embrace it lol.

Looking into the current Type Chart, I've concluded that the issue lies not with the Types themselves but with the system in place. Some Pokémon end up being disproportionately strong or weak simply because of their assigned Type. Here's my proposed solution: Instead of determining a Pokémon's weaknesses, resistances, and immunities solely by its Type, we could tailor these attributes to each individual Pokémon. This approach could potentially allow for greater flexibility and balance in gameplay. For example, imagine two Grass-type Pokémon. One could be weak to Fire, Ice, and Poison but resistant to Water, Electric, and Ground. Meanwhile, another Grass-type could be resistant to Fire and immune to Poison but weak to Flying and Bug. This approach would make each Pokémon feel more distinct and balanced in the competitive scene, without relying on gimmicks like Dynamax, Terastal, or Mega Evolution. While this system could make it harder for players to remember every Pokémon's specific resistances and weaknesses, this could be mitigated by allowing players to view the Pokédex in battle without any penalties. In hindsight, I understood why GameFreak might be hesitant to implement a system like this-given the vast number of Pokémon, assigning individual strengths and weaknesses would be a massive undertaking. However, with Gen 8's introduction of Dex-cuts, this task might be a bit more feasible.

Cacturne is a scarecrow, yet it's weak to Flying. A scarecrow is weak to birds. Wat. Actually, that sorta make sense now that I think about it, especially considering its Dark typing. It knows it can't take on "birds" in a fight, so it scares them instead. That actually does sound like a Dark-type thing to do. Huh.

Finally a poketuber who actually research Pokémon origins for their type reasoning. Very few poketubers who actually research into the deeper origin of the Pokémon type. Unlike most pokeshorts tubers who do it for the shock value views. Especially hidden grotto who is in denial of valid reasonable explanation that I commented and gone full petty because I don't share his opinions about this Pokémon type should be this type. To be fair, solgaleo's weaknesses are definitely more fitting than lunala's. Bro is the moon pkmn, and is quad weak to 2 of 3 types associated with night/moon, dark and ghost, the third one being fairy (cus moonblast, moonlight etc). Solgaleo's psychic makes at least a little sense as psychic has a few connections with the sun (ex. Morning sun being espeon's sig move in gsc)

Not really related to type limitations, but I'm not a big fan of almost every new pokemon being dual type. A couple of years ago I set up a challenge for myself of using every pokemon in a team to beat a main series game. I made teams with no type crossover, mostly to make sure there was a nice spread of team coverage and few common weaknesses. In earlier gens this was mostly fine. Maybe sometimes I ended up with a team with no ground resist and 3 ground weaknesses, but usually there was a good amount of resistances to play around with. In newer gens however, this balance is harder to find. And I think the biggest factor in that is the amount of dual types. While before about half my team was monotype, in scarlet and violet there's usually only one or two ( using almost exclusively gen 9 pokemon, with a couple of gen 8 pokemon that didn't fit in a sword and shield team ). For pokemon with good type combinations it's a strength. Add steel to most other types and it's probably better off. But when you're trying to use every pokemon it becomes quite clear that for the most part, a second type is a hindrance. Instead of a fire type with 3 weaknesses, you get a fire ghost with 5. You get a grass type and think you've got the water gym covered, but then it's also a fire or ground type and suddenly it's not so reliable. Not to mention that a 4x weakness usually means a pokemon is useless against that type. I've used every pokemon up to gen 7 in a game and i've done over half of the galar and paldea ones too, and while there's a lot to like about the new pokemon designs, this excess of dual types is a really big pet peeve of mine

I mean, what do you want them to do, program individual resistances for each one like it's Shin Megami Tensei? They were already almost running out of space in Crystal. Now imagine having to account for each individual Pokémon and form in USUM, where there are well over 800 of them.

Honestly, my solution to a lot of this has been to make pokemon have 2 and a half type. Especially since we have a built in tracking system now to let you know how strong your attacks are I think it would just be fun. Not every pokemon needs three types, but some absolutely could use it.

This is kind of why I like the weakness/resistance system in Persona better; every persona/enemy has a different weakness that corresponds to their design, however they are all part of a specific “type” within the games system. Not saying I would ever want this in Pokemon though
