Oh my God. You're telling me that on my first Crystal playthrough with the actual cartridge I got one of the rarest possibilities from the Odd Egg when it hatched into a Shiny Tyrogue? Awesome!
My first shiny from the Odd Egg back in the cartridge days of Crystal was a Shiny Pichu. I took it to Illex Forest to train it up the next day and found my first wild shiny which was Shiny Metapod
I remember being taught the cloning glitch back in elementary school, and abusing the hell out of it. Doing this is basically muscle memory, but much easier since it's a touch pad and not a switch. Thanks for the tip.
Your shiny Donphan story reminds me of the story of me and my brother's first shiny. Got Gold and Silver day one, he started Silver before I started Gold, he chose Cyndaquil and it was shiny. Not knowing, we thought it was a visual glitch. He reset to fix it. Then when I reached the Red Gyarados (I got to play more often) we learned about shiny Pokemon...
I managed to clone the egg 4 times before I screwed it up. But the good news is 3 of the 4 eggs I ended up with hatched shinies! :D I'm definitely going to revisit this glitch later.
It’s Aug. 2021 & I successfully got my 1st Gen 2 shiny, Cleffa, on my 15th egg! Had to restart my game the first time since I only got 2 eggs off before I clone glitched too slow & ruined the save file :( Word of advice: if you get a bunch of “?????” Covering your box 1 from the egg cloning DONT FREAK OUT (like I did, lol). Just withdraw the janky egg, it’ll be named “?!” But once it hatches its completely fine and the weird text goes away XD
UPDATE 6-11-2020: READ MY POST PLEASE TO KNOW ABOUT ERRORS WHEN DOING THIS GLITCH My original post asked if my egg called ? was fine or if I had screwed up my game. My game is fine! If this happens to you the egg will hatch normally. I continued this glitch and ran into a glitch I haven't heard anyone else mention. When I reseted and went in game, the old man was NO LONGER in his chair. Instead he was off screen in the black area. This is where I freaked out. I thought my game was done for. BUT I GOT OUT. And I will tell you how too. Where the old man originally sits but is now invisible, the game actually think you are in front of the PC. It's invisible but if you press A you can access your PC. You will notice you are not able to exit the Daycare, the rugs leading outside are blocked by an invisible wall. To get out move down and walk on the side rug heading left and you will be walking on the black screen now. From there move down and left and you will find yourself outside. Once I left the glitched daycare and went back, the daycare house returned to normal. On another note, while I was using the coin case glitch for Pokemon Silver on the Virtual Console, I glitched the trainer house located in Virdian city, Kanto. I didn't know I had and when I tried to battle at the trainer house, the trainer downstairs sent out s level 0 Primeape and then my game restarted in different colors. I am wondering if this will happen to VC Crystal now. I will update if it does. I believe to fix the glitched trainer house you need another 3ds with another gen2 game and do mystery gift to replaced the glitch trainer
Good thing I looked this up early... 20 hours into my playthrough because I was trying to catch a shiny Onix in Union cave. Ended up with a poliwag at level 20, a level 21 quilava and a level 23 Weepinbell. Too OP for Bugsy.
I've been doing this for the last 3 days (and less than 20 hatches) and so far and a Shiny Elekid, Shiny Magby, and a Shiny Cleffa. I've hatched 2 shiny Igglybuffs but reset too early and lost both but still have my other shiny babies. :) Still holding out for a Shiny Pichu and Igglybuff. :D
I'm happy if I get just one shiny. I used to have Cleffa back in the day. I also found a shiny Spinarak. But that save died. I have new shinies now on my VC copies. Like Scizzor and Typloshion. So it's cool. I really want Pichu too.
That is SO COOL to hear you say that your first ever shiny in the wild was a Donphan in an endgame cave, because MY first Shiny Pokémon? A PHANPY on Mount Silver, HeartGold! May 16, 2014. I'll never forget it. I had to immediately run and show my parents so they would know my scream wasn't a scream of déath!!
Oh...it became slightly less cool when you revealed that you were a dúmb little kid who was scared of the "glitch"! I was 13, but I had researched Shiny Pokémon and had this coming for nearly a year. So you can bet I kept her and her name was "Sparkles!!".
Don’t feel bad for the longest time I only ever had the red gyarados from the lake in crystal and I thought it was the only Pokémon that was different color and I only learned of shiny Pokémon two years ago. I’m 26, now I’m starting to shiny hunt.
Cloning on Crystal is way harder than on Gold/Silver since in G/S you can turn off/reset your game when you see the text 'off' or 'the'. In Crystal you need to wait until the end on the line when it say's 'power' and some wait too long or can't react fast enough wich makes them save their game (for example when you go for the 3 starters) wich is unfortunate and way harder to clone pokémon that way. I've tried the starters multiple times and never worked simple because i though it was the same for G/S but in Crystal it's different and your clone radius/time or whatever you want to call it is smaller.
Kevin Meynen Yeah the timing is way precise. It's trial and error. You basically have to get the rhythm of tapping the screen at a specific moment during the save screen. You wait too long the save goes through.
Tell me about it. I missed the timing of my Unlimited Odd Egg glitch and ended my chain early. But at least out of the 7 eggs that I successfully cloned, the 4th one had my shiny Magby.
I found an easier way to do the timing. I haven’t been unsuccessful yet. Hit the console touch screen immediately after you see the period. Hit resume game, then tap the console screen again and this time hit reset. I haven’t encountered any glitch Pokémon or failed at cloning both. Been doing it for about an hour now to clone charcoals to sale for coin case money to get all the tms/Pokémon for free lol. Hope this helps everyone!!
Eric Kirchner I've been successful with it myself lately, but I wait 1 second after the period (just say a two syllable word in your head) then hit Reset.I wish I would've mastered this when I was trying to get all 3 starters.
This definitely brings back a lot of memories from the original games. The very first Odd Egg I had hatched into a Pichu having a strange effect in battle and icon from what I noticed as a kid. The first thing I though was, something was wrong with my game so I resetted over a shiny, not knowing it was a special something. I legit thought it was a bug in the game since Gen 1 didn't had this mechanic... ._. Later, I encountered a Shiny Rattata, that's where I figured I've trashed a special Pichu without realizing what a shiny was since I noticed the colour difference. XD Also, before finishing the game I also found a Shiny Geodude. Good old classics.
Guys! I hatched a shiny Igglybuff and cloned it. When I was going to withraw it appeared glitched text! I insta-released it before something bad happened.
It is really tricky to do but possible. I managed a run of about 10 eggs in my game before mistiming it and saving - sadly super unlucky and not a single shiny out of that. Might finish my current run of Crystal and then try to farm for odd eggs a bit later on
I'm curious to know where that Elekid egg actually came from. Those Elekid were male, but all Pokemon from the Odd Egg are female due to their low attack IV, even when they're shiny (sans the all-male Tyrogue).
To be more precise, I'm pretty sure that even if the Elekid isn't shiny it's still female. I had a run on Pokemon Crystal(Emulator of course) last year and every Elekid I've got was Female and even the Shiny too. Long short story, I'm pretty curious to know how the heck this Shiny One was Male. First thought that comes to mind is... they fixed that in the VC 3DS.
I unfortunately am finding the clone glitch to be really hit or miss for me. I've watched your clone video several times and I was able to do it 4/10 times, but the last one just had a white box appear when I selected deposit and it stayed white..I'm not sure how to make it more consistent without screwing my file up completely :/
This Is Really Late, But Just Press A Until It Shows The Pokemon And Its Options And Release The Pokemon. After Doing That Everything Should Be Back To Normal
Currently I am playing through the virtual game of Crystal with my brother and cousin for my first time ever playing Crystal and I got a shiny Tyrouge from the odd egg. My brother, cousin and I were super hype
The Shiny Odd Egg was so hard for me, that i already gave up on it because my egg had a ???????????????????. I said to myself that i'm better off cloning the johto starters, cloning master balls, cloning TM's, and cloning held items! Crystal's way of cloning something is focused on getting the timing on things right, or else, sometimes, when you go to a box, it'll turn out to be a white corrupted box, which you can never go back to use! I had 5 white corrupted boxes in my box 4, box 5, box 6, box 7, and box 13 slots! I was so mad!
I wish I had known about this, but this video was made after I had already hatched the odd egg. I got my shiny Tyrogue the standard way of soft resetting. Its fine though, I got the mon I wanted anyway. Can you confirm whether or not the odd egg babies can be transferred to new games with their move dizzy punch? I'm hearing some complaints about this. I tried it myself and got a shiny Pichu on the first try, but when I tried it a few more times one of the eggs had the name Shadow instead of just Egg in the PC
I had the same *glitch* mindset when I was trying to catch lugia as a kid. All I remember was that I kept failing the capture because I only had like 15 balls on me. So I kept resetting. I saw the red and white lugia and thought it was a glitch. So I reset it. My 7 year old brain thought the red gyrados was the only "special version" that was in the game.
I just did this right now and managed to duplicate 30 odd eggs before my luck ran out and I soft-restarted too late. It was a hell of a run. I was aiming for 45, but it was a fecking hell of a run.
Okay I restarted the game because I didn’t understand the rules and messed up and now I’m getting worried because the first two eggs I hatched are named Beedrill and Igglybuff. Did I do something wrong? And will that affect what hatches? I’m trying for a shiny Pichu and a regular Shiny and Tyrogue.
when i do it the egg disappears from the box and it’s nowhere to be found but i can’t still obtain one from the day care like before. what am i doing wrong ?
I was practicing the clone glitch... what does it mean when you have both a ratatta in the PC box AND your party? Does that mean I did the glitch both right and wrong? And how would this translate to the egg? Would I still be able to get it from the daycare man?
If it's not level 0 & has ?s for names in the box thats exactly how the cloning glitch works. If it's level 0 & has a name of ?s you turned off too early & release it. If boxes actually change you waited too long. If the pokemon is the same in both team & computer, it's a perfect clone
Does this actually work on virtual console for the 3ds? I’ve done it a couple of times and now success yet. So in my box 1 I have like 6 Pokémon. Should I save my box to box 2 first then save before getting the egg so that box has 0 Pokémon and then when I deposit the egg do I switch to box 1 and then cancel the save?
The video was made using the VC version, so yeah. It's better to use a clean box, but it wont affect the sucess rate. You just need to practice the timing.
Panda 8 My Taco It looks like he hit the bottom screen to SR when the text for saving finished rolling out. Try that if you’d like, just when it finishes showing the full text of the “saving data” part
do you need to have a pokemon already in the box before depositing the egg because it keeps disappearing even though it went back to before i picked up the egg
When I get a chance of playing this I’m gonna save to change to an empty box before I get the egg and stack up after 30 to 35 at most for odd eggs hopefully I’ll get a shiny out of them. It’s like 14% but in the Japanese version it’s 50 SMH I guess the Japanese really are selfish lol
I just tried this today, but I messed up the timing and the save went through. I could only get one egg, but I got lucky and it hatched into a shiny elekid. I'll try this again on a new save.
Question: have you successfully transferred a shiny Pokémon hatched from the odd egg that was duplicated to Pokémon bank? I haven’t been able to get it past transporter.
Dude I decided to use this glitch to get a box full of these eggs and the game is already breaking at the 5th egg, so it’s clearly working😂 (showing all the question marks and stuff, but idk, I’m a shiny hunter, I’m used to wasting hours of my life😂)
Yes. They just look like any other Odd Egg Pokemon. HOWEVER you need to delete Dizzy Punch. The system thinks they're illegitimate not because they're glitched mons but because it thinks Dizzy Punch makes it illegal.
So i am not super worried about my save file or my box, but i just got a glitched egg. How do i get rid of it? Is there a way of fixing yhe corruption without deleting the save file?
I did this method but on the 4th egg I had a glitch. The name has random characters like "ID%!IdvO". So, I stopped and left it on Box 30. Anyway I can remove or do something to not show?
TheBrianGee everything about the Pokémon is determined when you pick up the egg. Save before you receive the egg if you want to reset and get something different
I was on a roll with 3, my 4th i messed up and it's all ???????? i shut off the game my save file is ok and i've heard people from forums running into this with their odd egg cloning so i chose a box i was never going to use and put all my main pokemon into a seperate box and each time I cloned the egg correctly i moved said egg int my main box to keep it from getting trapped if I messed up on the timing to reset, is there a way to get rid of this egg i'm a bit afraid to fiddle with it. o.o
I got a shiny but 3 of my boxes are dead, ill just clone non eggs from now on since I got what I wanted. This is tech my first ever legit shiny very pleased.
So, quick question. Will they always turn out to be shiny upon hatching? I'm a bit hesitant to do this as I don't wanna possibly screw up my save file(and also kinda don't want too many Shinies, as I want it to feel special when/if I encounter one), even though I've done the glitch in Silver that lets me get multiple of the same item WAAAYYY past 99 for easy money, but still.
every time i press "change box" and then "switch" it never asks me if I want to save. Can you plz plz plz plz plz help me! I really don't want to keep restarting the game. I saved in front of the PC, I attached a pokeball to totodile selected change box, waited until up to power reset it. Didn't clone the pokemon I just tried 5 times and 3/5 times it saved even though it didn't say it did and another time it just went back to the previous save file without cloning it in my crystal
About half a second after the period appears is when you're supposed to reset. Once you get that down you'll have an easier time and higher rate of success for cloning Pokemon
Is it safe to transfer to pokemon bank the pokemon hatched from ????? eggs? Sometimes, while doing this method, I get some question mark eggs and they hatch normally. I wonder if other people are having the same problem. Is it because I did the starters glitch too?
is it supposed to glitch the bank out with question marks and random characters? thats the result i had lol on the bottom left theres a symbol that looks like a wifi or battery meter its wierd XD
