Pokémon Crystal Version is the third and final Generation II core series game for Game Boy Color. It was released as a solitary version to Pokémon Gold and Silver, which were released one year before. It was released in Japan on December 14, 2000, in North America on July 29, 2001, and in Europe on November 2, 2001.
It featured various fixes and some new additions, most notably the introduction of the option to play as a girl. It takes place in the region of Johto like Gold and Silver, with access to Kanto granted later in the game, with the player's starting town being New Bark Town.
The Japanese version had far more new features, all related to a mobile phone-related linking technology usable through the Mobile System GB when connecting a Mobile Game Boy Adapter to a Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance (original or SP).
The game was available on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console between January 26, 2018, and the discontinuation of the 3DS Nintendo eShop on March 27, 2023.

Something else that also helps!: If youre playing on an emulator, you can create a save state right before you go into your PC box if you mess up the timing on the reset. That way you dont have to do the whole thing all over again and can just reload the emulator to where you were last standing, since save states are the emulator saving and not the game itself you'll still also have your "real" save point in front of the lab

Ok so I got to the third pokemon with a save state at the point I have 2 starters and a sacrifice pkmn I deposited both starters an reset grab the third an when I get back to the PC I only have one starter in the box and the new starter I chose in my party

Man, this brings back nostalgic feelings of my older brother and I playing gen 2 back when I was a kid. Truly awesome going through the game with all 3 starters It feels weird seeing you withdrawing the first starter when you do the reset though. This is not a necessary step. It is for cloning one mon multiple times, but not for starters

CORRECTION: Regarding the timing for the reset in Crystal, it is slightly different than in Gold and Silver. When it says "Saving...do not turn off the power." that is when you reset/turn off the power. BUT you have to wait until about one second after the period at the very end of the sentence appears. In Gold/Silver, you don't need to wait for that but in Crystal, you do. If youre playing on an emulator, you can create a save state right before you go into your PC box if you mess up the timing on the reset. That way you dont have to do the whole thing all over again and can just reload the emulator to where you were last standing, since save states are the emulator saving and not the game itself you'll still also have your "real" save point in front of the lab. its really tough. the timing is a pain. in gold and silver, its SO much easier. but this one is tougher. check the description box and comments for more support.

@whydopeoplealwayssayuhm the timing on Pokémon crystal is different to silver and gold, for crystal you actually reset just a second after the sentence is finished, worked for me, the subtitles clear it up

Like I commented last time on Gold You can just catch 2 Pokémon and clone 1 along the starter in the first reset Catching isn't a real problem early on but might aswell avoid RNG

Works in emukator as well? Just need to reset at the right time once you have your started in box and you can "reload" a new save over the old one basically? Not sure I got it roght cause people around me interruoted me😢

yes indeed. it works on all playable platforms (carts, virtual console, and emulation) and it works the same way with gold, silver, and crystal. made a video in gold as well. same thing though.

Yep, it’s easier in gold and silver. Crystal is a bit tougher.

Dam the glitch works, but I was a second off and I only got 2 of the 3. I'm not starting over again just for Chikorita. At Least I have my 2 favorite Pokemon. Doing this on the Nintendo 2DS.

I did the correction and reset after the period of the sentence. And I got all 3 of my starters and they’re female. Took longer because I wanted all female. I failed quite a bit so I practiced saving/resetting before going into the building to see if I could get it right.

Does the timing for when to reset change if you are using slo,med,fast text speed? Also anyone know if this works on n64 playing Crystal with ps2?

the timing is different if you alter the text speed simply because we are using the text as a marker for when to stop and reset. also, no one is going to know the answer to the second part of your question because that is ridiculous.

And I know the question about n64 is a bit bogus, I was just hoping someone might have tried it as currently my openly way to play gb and gbc games is my n64 with pokemon stadium. Which I will be trying this on and can let you know if it works!

I can’t get the crystal version to work. I clone left and right on Gold/silver but crystal doesn’t work. The point in which you reset isn’t right. I did it the exact same way as shown in the video.😢

@@Marcanine Virtual console: I just did an attempt when I reset a half second after the period, and now I can’t withdraw Pokémon without a game crash. My first attempt was relatively successful, my totodile had ????????????????R as a name, ? As original trainer, it successfully cloned but was unusable and I couldn’t send it out in battle without a perpetual “??ysj??37guun??? Has been sent out” screen. This glitch must have been patched cuz it now really messes up your game if you fail to do the glitch. 😞I can dupe on gold and silver, but I must trade with a friend to reap benefits of cloned items and Pokémon in my crystal version. This glitch has never worked properly for me on this version, and it works flawlessly and reliably every time on gold version.

honestly. i found this process to be a HUGE pain. I made the video to show others how to do it but if you were to ask me to replicate or redo this, i would not want to. it was THAT frustrating. it does work, though. but i would not do it again in another future playthrough lol.
