That bit at 1:37 always sends me, Brock sensing his presence as the ominous music plays and seeing him just kind of staring standing UP in the bushes, not even trying to be truly hidden, with that expression on his face.
Nah bruh i knew i couldn’t be the only person who died laughing at this when I was a kid. Bro stood there staring menacingly, not even trying to hide behind anything. ☠️
It was the one rival that you hated right off of the bat and that made it kinda good for you know...a rival, not "oh we are rivals but also friends" so the stakes are 20 times higher when they fight
@@Eo22I005 Sawyer was lame, Alain was ok, Gladion is one of the best rivals, Trip is just a Great value version of Paul and Gary was also one of the best rivals too.
Agreed. And 100% why D/P was the best of the Pokemon anime... and it’s all been downhill from there. Even if you like/dislike Mega evolutions / z crystals / dyamaxxing / any other lame gimmicks, Sinnoh league was the best!
Paul is one of my favorite rivals despite not even being in any of the games. Would be cool if they put him into the new DP remakes but Pokémon doesn’t do cool stuff like that.
That was actually really nice of Paul to give the Azumarill to a kid. He could’ve easily released it but he did a pretty nice thing, gave him a trainer that’ll care for him.
The way he treated Chimchar still makes me think he´s a douche but otherwise I can understand him if he doesn´t like all the fuss which can be a lot when dealing with Ash and his friends.
Paul is the embodiment of the average pokemon player that rushes through the game just so he can EV train and IV breed with access to everything and then play online. He even has the mindset of those players: Gets annoyed by cutscenes and pissed off being interrupted training or trying to catch something Doesn't give a shit about the other characters and doesn't want to Will literally switch Pokemon with spikes on the field just to save time Releases certain pokemon without a care in the world if they aren't of use anymore
And that is what is so fantastic about him. Many of those players see themselves in Paul, just like how a lot of the audience (especially young kids) see them selves in Ash.
@@yawninglion1677 Yeah, it's like if an RTS player became the commander of an army turns out he's a Starcraft Zerg player, so kiss your ass goodbye because everyone one of you is disposable.
Dawn: wait whats wrong? Paul: whats wrong? Who are you? *Dawn goes crazy that she makes volcano erupt* Dawn: THE NAMES DAWN Paul: dont remeber *Dawn goes even more crazier that she cuts sun to 4 pieces and wants to attack Paul, but Brock stops her* Paul: (what the f---)
@@pixelchu when I was younger and saw that I was like "wow Paul is such a jerk... take him down Ash" but when I saw that the other day I was like "why don't you mind your own business ash and leave him alone... he's releasing his starly to be free it's not like he's torturing it"
@@eljordinio7647 He was really only a waste because the anime made him a waste, if he actually sticked around for a good while he would’ve had a better addition to the team like Butterfree.
1:29 I think that is the only time Paul has ever been hurt. It was pretty cathartic at the time given his attitude and how he constantly casually avoided harm other characters received.
Even then, Paul managed to turn it into a win for him by catching said Gliscor. If anything, I think getting hit like that made Paul even more determined/interested in catching Gliscor.
They're just gazing outside the window sadly, forlornly wondering when they can go outside and pummel Ash again. -but seriously though Paul looked like a creep standing there HAHAHA-
Honestly I think Gladion is the best! He wasn’t the nicest at first but as he got used to Ash he had a very nice and interesting character and he’s also my my fav male character! Him and Lillie are SOOOOOOOOO CUTE!
Man, gen 4 had it ALL. The great story, literally almost all the battles in this region were fantastic, and most of all the perfect rival being Paul. He was the best one for Ash IMO by pushing each other to each other’s limits and Paul basically proved that in the Pokémon world, not all people are nice and great. He was abusive to his Pokémon and talked down on them a lot but at the end, he came around and finally realized that it’s not all about winning!
he should return and respect Ash but then hate someone else like Trip (since Trip is a failed Paul copy like ditto for mew) Would be funny to see Trip be bullied
Me: He's being a LAMO BOZO again. Paul: For once I agree with you. Me: If you'd like, I could get you a DUNCE cap to give to Ash. This way you can remind him on what you think about his intelligence & strategies. Paul: I'd actually like that, Thanks. Me: You're welcome.
@@Tacnoo Never heard of or knew about this video until recently. Not to mention giving Ash a dunce cap is something many would've liked to do many years back anyway.
Ash: Dude, you already know me! I'm Ash Ketchum! We've battled twice! Paul: Ketchum? Now I remember. You're the punk I've beaten twice Ash: I hate you so much!
I love how every time Ash meets Paul he goes: WOW IT'S *_PAUL_* like it's his first time seeing him or he's starstruck or Paul can't be seen roaming around Sinnoh😂
And Tobias too just so you can beat the hell out of him. But yeah add Paul as additional Rival, make him canon. If XY can have 4 what's the harm in adding 1 more.
Ash: "You're so horrible and mean to your Pokemon!" Also Ash: "OMG you gave your Pokemon away to a little boy who will love and cherish it for the rest of its life?! What's wrong with you!?!" Can you imagine if you knew someone who you felt was abusive to their dog, then one day they gave their dog away to a little boy who was instantly in love with it and treated it like gold, and you being mad about that?
I dont really see why him giving away Azumarill was that bug of a deal. Sure he gave it away just because it lost in battle, but if he didn't think they were working well together than it was probaboy for the best he gave it to someone else. At least that kid seemed to really care, so its not like Paul just threw it away to anyone
If only Sun and Moon was actually good. If I were to compare Ash in each league, Alola is the one he least deserved to win - his team was better back in the Indigo League (until he got thrown some legendaries, *cough* Tobias *cough*) and throughout Alola he was about as dumb as he was in Unova. I mean, he is literally going to primary school for the vast majority of the series. Right, that is the bitterness out of my system for another few days, my apologies to all I subjected to it.
Grumpy Squat how was his Kanto team better than his alola team? He had a mythical and an ultra beast on his team, a dusk lycanroc, incineroar, and of course pikachu. And the weak link, rowlett
@acktually aintaddingup well we sure got origins, I just want the manga to be anime. Also Ash is a different thing. He should be how he is and I don't want my childhood to be ruined lol
I love how in at least half of these clips Paul isn't even doing anything to directly antaggonize Ash or anybody, he's just minding his business and then stupid shit happens.
Jeeze 291 likes in 3 days, thanks guys 0:58 Paul just trying to catch a fearow when everyone is interrupting him, "Can you all just be quiet, FOR 5 MINUTES"
Paul really did have a problem. He wasn't just rude, he was actually cruel to both people and his Pokemon. And he was so arrogant. But he changed as the show went on. He became humbler and actually started to care a bit. Paul was a better person by the series's end.
Yeah, also the fact that he was like that and believed his way was right and Ash's way was wrong just made it so much more satisfying when Ash eventually beat him. We dont know what happened after that but we can assume that he jad to rethink his battle strategy.
Paul reminds me of Damien from the indigo league both trainers abandoned their fire-type pokemon and thought they were weak. Ash was the opposite of the two, he's kind, caring, and loving.
"when everything's worse our work is complete '... "EMBER" "Ember"...... "EMBER"???? I friggin died at that😂😂😂. I forgot though which episode was that?
I loved how much Sinnoh would do that. Constantly changing up the motto. Sometimes drastically changing every single word of it and having characters interrupt it frequently. I'm kind of sad they moved away from it.
That what i love about him. He along with Barry are my all-time favorite rivals and characters. DP is my favorite series and that is kinda because of them.
