In Pokemon Evolutions, Alder is played by Andrew Eales. I think Eales has the right voice, sounding fairly close to what I imagined for Alder. However, he sounded a little stilted in some areas of the performance. To be fair, Evolutions didn’t give him much to work with like with many characters, and if he had more time to flesh out the performance, I could definitely see him being the definitive Alder English dub voice. I will put him second above Cam Clarke, but Scottie Ray is still the definitive Alder voice for me.
Alder is played by Scottie Rayow in the Pokemon anime English dub, which I must say turned out to be inspired casting! Rayow could be charming, funny but also wise and authoritative. His husky voice even gave him an intimidation factor as well. His performance was definitely one of the standouts from the Black & White anime dub saga. In Masters, he is played by Cam Clarke, who on paper is a good casting choice, as he has a natural fun loving, experienced quality but can also be serious when necessary. The issue however is, once again, lack of proper direction. Clarke just sounds put on to me, I’m not sure if he’s trying to be serious or funny, or anything more than an average trainer you’d come across playing the game. I’m comfortably giving the win to Scottie Rayow on this one!
