Great video. Sopot is twinned with my home city of Southend on Sea, Essex and I visited that pier though it was snowing! The beaches in Poland seem to be much cleaner than those in the UK.
Thanks for the amazing ferry trip! Living in the Arizona, USA desert, we have few buses, trains or ferrys. I love the adventures you vlog and your honesty about the journey. We do have a lovely train here in the Verde Valley, it's a short round trip style train ride from the mining area of Jerome to an old ranch that also had a train stop. Great desert and riparian ride if you're ever near Sedona Arizona.
Stena Scandica formerly Stena Lagan sailing Belfast to Liverpool until it and Stena Mersey were replaced during the pandemic. The Lagan and Mersey sailed to the shipyard at Gdańsk where they were cut in half and a new mid hull section added to lengthen them for their new job on the Baltic. A bit of trivia there
Both Lagan and Mersey were lengthened in Sedef shipyard in Turkey, not Gdańsk. In Gdańsk they only went through last preparations before they entered service in Latvia.
Love it - brought back so many memories, crossing from Hel to Gdynia about 10 years ago, on a blazingly hot August morning with my wife and (then) little kids. Thanks!
Only ACDC references in the previous Hel video and no Chris Rea - Road to Hell references in this one? Disappointed... but beautiful video nonetheless.
If you are still in Gdansk, you HAVE TO go to Malbork. It is small city about 1hr on train from Gdansk, but there is very old castle (XIII century), one of the kind heritage by UNESCO. One of - if not the only one - of this size and panache in the world. You don't want to miss that.
Good video! Thanks for taking the time and trouble of including information about the passing ships and other landmarks along the way; it was much appreciated. Gdansk looked like a very interesting place to visit in your previous viog.
The Poles LOVE their bikes. Not quite as much as the Dutch or the Danes, (and if you want Mountain bikes, you need the Czechs, Slovaks and, weirdly, the French for that) but they do love their bikes.
Greetings from Vancouver Island 🇨🇦! Living on an Island, we are very familiar with ferries. 4 of the vessels in the BC Ferries fleet were built in Gdansk! I envy your ability to travel to so many different countries which are a relatively short distance from your home. The European transportation system is marvelous. Canada is sadly lacking in ground transportation options. Love your videos! I enjoy seeing the world through your camera! Cheers!
I love Vancouver and Vancouver island I used to travel there from last 12 years my favourite summer destination I have no idea that some vessels BCferries were build in Poland (I'm polish living in Edmonton)
Great job Scott! My Dad used to be a captain working for Żegluga Morska which owns Opal, there was also Rubin, Agat, Onyx all same size and type. Greetings from Pole who usedt to live at polish seeside and now since 20 years lives in scotland. By the way.. I have travel channel too, pop in and leave your subcribtion if you like it. All best Scott!
Wow! I live nearby ... it's kind of "exotic" you've chosen this area in the autumn/winter time. It's cold (but this season is relatively warm)... you cannot bath in the sea (if you're not a MORS - a cold bathing lover) but ... the beaches in the summertime, which is about 25-32 deegrees hot, are packed. Now you've got it on your own... it's unpopular but you can see the normal life and you have an opportunity to se the real nature! So cool 🥰
In Gniezno there is the largest locomotive shed in Europe. The nearby narrow gauge railway is an added bonus In one of the National Geographic programs, Tony Pollard, a historian and expert in the field, described the railway complex in Gniezno as huge, unbelievable, massive, unexpected !!! Unfortunately, the area is very neglected as a whole, and an association operates there. There is a shortage of money and the owner of the PKP area does not care about the development of this museum. This is because it is a museum with unique artifacts, which in 2022 celebrates its 150th anniversary.
You missed a ship at 1:10 Look to the left, that battleship model in a case. Which ship is that and what is it doing on a ferry ? It could be the Schleswig-Holstein which fired the first shots of WW2 at the battle of the Westerplatte, Gdansk. There is a maritime museum to visit in Gdansk.
See, you don't have to be in some high-horse touristy hotspot to have a good time. Poland looks like a perfectly nice place for some interesting sights and sites.
It's popular to ride to Hel on a bicycle and back by ferry, or the other way around - which I prefer. On a bicycle from Gdansk, it's about 100km and it takes you around 5-6h + breaks/pauses, really great trip, with magnificent views, and all bicycle path is next to the water. Highly recommended 👍
Excellent video Scott. Many thanks for sharing and all your efforts. The ferry journey looked very relaxing I must say. Nothing better than getting up close and personal with the much bigger ships. You really do get to see just the whole scale of them. Stay safe enjoy the travel.
That's a great ferry ride ; lots of side show . Thanks for pointing out all the vessels passing around. Certainly was worth the double fare with the entertainment included .
I have flown to Gdansk and visited Sopot & Gdynia also Sopot is a great place especially the monster wooden pier with the glass restaurant and Marina at the end
