Ok, 'HOW IS IT FOR?' should be 'WHO IS IT FOR?' If you find any additional mistakes, you'll win some Swim, Bike, Run, Rinse, Repeat stickers. So keep an eye out people! 👌
Not sure if there's actual errors you're asking people to spot. If there is, how about the following? Should there be a '?' on your t-shirt? Missing "standby" when talking about watch mode? "Very much more"?
Oh Kelly, I think those would qualify to win you some Swim, Bike, Run, Rinse, Repeat stickers. I'm not really asking people to focus on errors but if people want to point them out and get some free stickers, I'm ok with that. I would just need your address. You can private message me on Instagram and I'll mail some your way. 👍
@@mlegrand Sorry, thought it was a game! T.T Honestly not normally so critical. It's OK, I'm way over here in the UK and I believe postage is quite expensive at the mo. Perhaps gift to someone closer, when the opportunity arises?
I love your honest reviews! I would use this a bit for casual cycling, but I also like the fact that it can provide customized workouts, and that is something that I struggle with because I tend to do only one specific type of workout and would love to try something new that would work for me
I would like to win this watch for my mom. She has been working the ER since covid cases started back in November of 2019. Yet what has impressed me the most is that back in March her work said they couldn’t afford to have multiple workers during the night shifts. She volunteered to work at half her rate so that the night shift crew wouldn’t be overwhelmed in the ER. She has been doing day and night shifts since March! Recently on a FaceTime call I noticed her Fitbit screen was basically shattered. I want to replace her watch for her and this would be an amazing blessing for such a deserving woman. She is absolutely my hero and is such a servant to others. This would absolutely make her year and uplift her spirit like she has done for so many.
My girlfriend would finally like a Polar product for daily use - she is not a "fitness enthusiast" but fairly active during the day, and she hated the former "bulky" Polar watches.
Nice thorough review Matt. This doesn’t sound like the watch for me. I am a polar watch user and love the polar ecosystem. I would love to win to gift this to my wife, whom is getting more into running and cycling. She has been an avid walker for years. She would really enjoy knowing her heart rate, to get some more training ideas and even see the quality of her sleep. Keep up the great work.
Yes, I also do really love Polar and I sometimes worry that I'm a bit biased. But I'd like to walk a fine line between being brutally honest and at the same time respectful of all the hard work that goes into making these devices by the people at the company. 🤷♂️ I agree that it's probably not perfect for you but might be something for your wife! 👍
Nice review. I'm a first time subscriber. I caught your message in Reddit Polar Fitness group. Glad to see that you are one of first to provide an unbiased opinion. I've been with Polar now for over 10 years. Because of work, I missed the Polar Unite unveiling event. I'm a Polar M400 die hard fan. They were built to last. I still use it from time to time especially If I'm going to be outside for a long period of time. I also have the M600 for work, and the Vantage M which has recently become my go to! I'm a newbie to doing the DU. Running/Biking/Running so I was looking for a potential alternative comparable to the Polar Grit X (due to cost). I thought Polar's new watch would interest me. I'm not a hardcore athlete but do like versatility in my watch. The light weight is good. Lack of GPS is bad! I wonder how well the touch screen will do under heavy sweating! Thanks again!
I do really love Polar. That Grit X watch is excellent. And I do feel a bit biased. But I'd like to walk a fine line between being brutally honest and at the same time respectful of all the hard work that goes into making these devices by the people at the company. 🤷♂️ I am generally not a fan of touch screens for that very reason. I don't think this watch would be perfect for you but you're entered to win anyway. 👍
Helpful review! I’d use this watch to get back into fitness after a break and fibromyalgia diagnosis. I think it would be a great watch to help me to push myself just the right amount and learn what works for me and just train more intelligently.
Nice review! I have an Ignite which is working great for me right now, I haven’t quite broken that 6 hour barrier yet so battery life is perfect! I think this watch would be perfect for my wife who would get the benefit on her daily runs!
Well, it’ll work but there are also other options depending on if you’re looking something specifically for running. You should also look at the Polar Grit X and maybe the Garmin 45. 👍
I'd gift it to my mom for sure. My dad whose 75 started walking and tracking his steps and gets upwards of 20k steps a day. He used the garmin 45 that I gifted him. My mom however doest have a watch/tracker so this would be perfect to get her more active. She won't need the GPS because she'll just be using it for tracking steps.
Nice Review. I didn’t know you are a high school coach. That’s totally cool. High school cross country is such a great sport. The kids are awfully fun to be around. I try to run with the local team as much as possible. My long time friend is the coach and my son ran there while in high school.
Yeah, hopefully we have a season this year. I grew up running and absolutely adore the sport. It's a big team and a lot of work but the kids are fantastic. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
I would give this to my mum to make sure that she keeps up her fitness that she gained over lockdown period. For me it is basic compared to the other Polar watches, but would be ideal for her.
Found this via reddit! I need to replace my fitbit charge 2 and this device seems perfect! I'm a serious bodybuilder/powerlifter that does some indoor and track running plus some hiking, so no need for onboard gps or super fancy running metrics like a garmin 945. But definitely need an upgrade!
another awesome review! i’ve been using apple watches for wrist bases tracking for years. i have yet to try any other ecosystems. and while i’ve heard apple is catching up in some ways, i also know that the main hitters just do things better when it comes to run metrics. (the gps snafoo isn’t an issue for a device at this price point i think. it gets more people into the sport. So, if i won, id jump into he new ecosystem and see how it works. Looking forward to the next video!!
@@mlegrand Mostly agree.. but as I get into longer distances (doing 70.3 now, looking to do full IM later), you end up having to babysit the battery.. and the lack of a tri-sport function is really a drag. Swim tracking is great, run tracking is.. well it's getting better.. and I use a wahoo for the bike. I have found it to be the best day to day smart watch to live with so the compromises are easy to handle at least.
Kwad Skwad - Oh if you’re doing 70.3s and fulls, I absolutely think you should be looking at a triathlon specific watch. The Apple Watch is a smart watch with fitness tracking capabilities and you need a triathlon watch with some smart watch capabilities. There’s a subtle difference there. 👍
Hi Mike, Congrats on winning this watch! Please reply to this message and if possible private message me (on instagram) your address within a week so that I can mail this out to you. 👏
I primarily do cycling and was using a Garmin device previously, but after a string of bad luck and having to warranty multiple devices I decided to switch from my Forerunner to a Wahoo Bolt. However, I am thinking about picking up the Polar Unite merely to get the sleep metrics and the continuous heart rate monitoring to give me some further insight to my training, as I no longer have the Garmin watch tracking my heart rate and sleep. I understand that Polar is one of best for sleep and other health metrics. I'm hoping it's a good fit.
Yeah Andrew! The Polar sleep tracking is probably my favorite of all the devices I've tested. And Polar just released the Ignite 2 if you want to checkout the specs on that watch. Overall I prefer few of Polar's other watches that have the always on screen but for what you're looking to do, this might be perfect. I also have another video coming up on the Bolt. Solid device and I've been using it for a year now. Thanks for watching Andrew. Let me know if there is anything in particular you'd like to see on this channel!
@@mlegrand I think if I was going to go for the Ignite 2 instead of the Unite, I would probably be better off spending just a little more for the Vantage M. That would give me a true multisport watch. From what I've been reading there is no real way for Polar Flow to factor in cycling activities to it's training metrics unless it was recorded on a Polar device, unless they have changed that. I guess it wouldn't be the worst thing to record my cycling activities on both devices if I wanted to use the Bolt that I already own as my primary display, and a Polar just for gathering training load metrics? I have also never used a watch with a touchscreen before, so that may make my decision for me if I end up hating it.
@@yamdrew - Yeah, that's the tricky thing with a lot of different devices. You don't get on solid training load metric. I suppose you could double record with your watch and bike computer just so all the data is in the Polar Flow app and then make sure to delete it off of Strava (if that's what you use). This is something I'm constantly doing while testing multiple devices. I guess it all depends on how important that training load metric is for you. Another tool to consider would be having all the data from different devices go up to Training Peaks (they have a free version) and then you could get training load there. They love to use TSS points as a training load scale.
@@mlegrand yeah I think I’d have to use the training features in Polar for a bit to determine that. I’m hoping it will be better than Garmin’s implementation. Garmin’s was very biased towards high intensity workouts, and their recommended workouts for cycling were a joke. It would often suggest workouts that equated to something like 6 minutes at 125% FTP or 20 minutes at 110% FTP, which is just not possible if you have your zones set with an accurate FTP measurement. The plans Training Peaks sells are just far better, but sometimes can get stagnant.
I was thinking about getting this to my mom. However, if I understood it correctly, she would have to take her cellphone with her to use the GPS and track distance? Did I get it correctly?
That was correct for this older watch. This video is about three years old. I would look at the Polar Ignite 2 which will be on mega discount now that they’ve updated that device. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I’m just looking for something to work as a light-weight activity and sleep tracker. I have a theory that Polar is releasing the Unity to compete directly with Whoop - what do you think?
I have been on a long search for a perfect fitness watch for me for a while especially during the quarantine. I resistance train and do weighted jumprope cardio daily with some recovery yoga so it would be really nice to track my heart rate
This watch has a ton of activity types. I’m not sure it’s the perfect fitness watch but it’s a solid option. Good luck 👍 and thanks for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it.
Dang, mistakes happen. 🤦♂️ Well, since you found a mistake, I’ll send you some stickers. I just need your address. Private message me your address and I’ll send them your way.
Would love this watch to help monitor and optimise my training! I'm coming back from injury and this would be great to motivate me in getting back to fitness 🤞🙂
I've been actively doing circuit trainingd and runs, however my current smartwatch isn't unable to compute the estimated calories burnt based on heart rate (you can take a guess which fitness/smartwatch that is). So it's incredibly frustrating. Will really love to have a better measurement of my exercises with the Polar Unite!
The sleep data could be interesting. You said you left the watch on the shore while open water swimming and had zero distance. Assuming you meant you left your phone.
I will use it for running and cycling. I work at a sports good store here in Brazil and never had an opportunity to use a watch for running, it’s always my cellphone in my pocket for the GPS. Hope I can win this :)
Technically, this would still be using your smart phone GPS data. But it'd be nice having that information on your wrist. And I think you'd really like the sleep tracking. Good luck!
Ok, that’s great feedback! I have more watch reviews coming in the future and will try to show more watch operation. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to provide suggestions. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hey Matt! Thanks for the review and giveaway. I'd love to use this watch to track my HR and try zone training for my swim/bike/runs! I'm hoping to optimize my training to speed up progress and be able to participate in my first ever Ironman event (once things return to normal). Thanks again!
It’s great for tracking heart rate. I don’t know if it would be perfect for swim/bike/runs. And I think eventually you might want something with longer battery life for that Ironman distance. Either way you’re entered. 👍
Hi Ahmet, It does try but I don't have any good accurate way to set test that data. It uses a very old basic formula but I'd need a good correct base line data point to compare this to in order to know if it's accurate. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Isn't that hilarious! 😂 My friend made it for me a while ago. I'll start up merch with all the stupid stuff I say on each shirt. Should be tons of different options. 🤦♂️
Great review Matt, I'd like to win this watch for the same reason I wanted the ignite, to track my HIIT / running sessions, and I don't mind having my phone with me (for the gps).
I’m wondering if the polar unite has music controls ? Like if I stream Spotify from my iPhone would i be able to pause/skip/increase volume on the watch ?
Fantastic review. I have the Vantage M which is great to track my runs and gym sessions however due to recent changes in policy at work and it having on board GPS I am not allowed to wear it at work due to security reasons which is a real shame as truley captured my activity and heart rate data which is easily laid out and viewable on the Polar Flow platform. I know that it would be great to see on board GPS on this device but for people like myself who work in places with security restrictions limiting the ability to wear a fitness tracker at work, this is an ideal solution due to its very basic tracking nature and could do well with my kind of target audience as other brands such as Fitbit and Garmin are not permitted in my line of work due to issues with onboard GPS, internal storage or NFC capability. Great if I was to win it, if not I know what I want for my Birthday now to add to my growing Polar collection.
@@mlegrand I work in a prison so we have strict rules as to permitted devices and items. With the rise of fitness trackers more and more of us are wanting to wear them as we spend most of our days on our feet with the occasional sprint to another area in response to an assistance call and often use the gym facilities within our establishments so when tracking our activities they help. Unfortunately with the recent change in policy they have imposed strict rules on which devices are permitted and criteria devices not on their approved security list must meet, so pretty much all Garmin devices and many of the Fitbit devices are not permitted due to additional functions that a normal person would expect to get for the money.
As long as it’s a Bluetooth capable HR monitor it’ll work. The H10 will work really well with this watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hmm Well I would use if for work as I need a watch to count respiration’s and heart rates for my clients i see. That is what I would use it for. Also the raise to wake would actually work for me for this. SO I do believe this watch would be for me for work. What you thinK??? Seriously a legit answer and need. :)
Damn, I can’t fix that in post. Well, if you find a mistake, I’ll send you some Swim, Bike Run Rinse Repeat stickers. I just need your address. Private message me on Instagram or somewhere with your address and I’ll send some your way. 👍
