We added 33-inch High Lifter Chicane LT tires and took the 2024 Polaris RZR XP rock crawling on Double Sammy. We tossed the keys to Polaris racer Michael Lee who has lots of time behind the wheel of the original RZR XP1000 in the rocks and also here at Sand Hollow (primarily in a Pro R 2 and 4 seat).
The 2024 Polaris RZR XP is a complete ground-up redesign of the XP1000 and pretty much everything Polaris touched was made better. While the new RXR XP is primarily targeted to trail users, we’d have no problem running it in the rocks alongside more traditional trail use.
- 35-inch tires will not fit without aftermarket forward arms. The tires we ran are a true 33-inch and they cleared without issue.
- Low-range is much lower than an original XP1000, but not quite as low as the Trail & Rock Edition XP1000.
- Seating position is a bit lower and there is a bit more leg room. If you are pushing 6 foot tall, we still felt like the driver could use more leg room for the left leg.
- Visibility over the hood is improved.
- Turning radius is excellent
- Chassis feels more solid with no squeaks or rattles after 400 miles.
- Front differential is mounted well with rubber isolation.
- Gen 2 ProStar with 114HP pulls 33-inch tires well in the sand around Sand Hollow so you can get from trail to trail without concern.
- CVT has a lineage from the XP Turbo with larger primary and secondary and increased cooling. Engagement is excellent and we never felt like the belt was slipping.
- Front and rear sway bars were left attached for this test. If the vehicle was ours, and we did this type of riding a lot, we’d remove the front.
- Tire pressure was set at 8psi.
Overall, the RZR XP is one of the better out-of-the-box rock crawlers that we have test. Two thumbs up.

Have they advertised how much they’ve reduced the gearing on these units? I feels like it’s about 25% reduced over the last generation XP 1000.

Haven’t seen anything specific. But it is definitely lower than the XP1000. Probably not quite as low as the Trail & Rock Edition

How is gearing in high running those 33s? Still too high or is high gear lowered the same percentage as low compared to the og xp

Low range is good but not as low as the Trail & Rock edition XP1000.

Great video! Any mods to get the 33s to fit? How does the machine do in high gear with those on?
