I really enjoy videos like this. Thanks. I think that Polaris jet ski's go into limp mode when the gas is very low. That's why it ran bad until you fixed the gas gauge.
I just baught a 96 sl 780 i got it to start and idle but it wont rev out when i snap the throttle.. it tries to but just sounds like something is holding it back.. so far i have pulled the carbs off and cleaned all the jets and orifices out with carb cleaner and also a blow gun, pulled apart the fuel pump for inspection of bad parts, everything looked good inside.. put fresh gas in the tank, and also check the fuel filter... all appers to be fine... has 150 lbs of compression on all 3 cylinders.. any pointers would be appreciated
I have one of those and gave upon it .One really bad flaw in my opinion is the gas filler down low by water level. I bought some older seadoos and quit with the polaris because of that specific reason. The older seadoos like the 93-97 versions are some of the best, most reliable, simple, cheapest to maintain with aftermarket parts. Also the gas filler is up high by the handlebars.
Like your vid's. I've got a 96 SL 700. The wire harness coming out of the front of the engine fried back to the CDI. I thinking the stator is shot. Could the CDI be toast also ? Any thoughts and where to find parts. Thanks
Its a hose adapter. On the very top of the engine there is a bar/water inlet that runs across the cylinders. AT the end of it towards the back is a rubber hose. That end is where the thermostat is. just above that is a brass screw. Its 1/2 in plumbers thread. Remove it and go to the hardware store and buy a hose adapter. It will be 1/2 plumbers thread on one side and a hose adapter on the other to screw your garden hose to. But do not turn your hose on until the motor is running. And make sure you turn the hose off before you shut off the engine.
hi sir im working in a polaris SLX im instaling a new engine on it my question is this engines use oil???? because i dont see where to put oil in the engine thanks....
yes, they are 2 strokes. they are oil injected. you should have a oil pump and oil lines. then there should be a oil tank. Some people remove all that and premix the oil with the gas. If you go that route make sure you premix 40-1 . For break in you usually double the oil premix.
i have a 96 slx when you hook up the battery nothing happens no display or anything the wires coming out of the cdi box are burnt what do i need to replace?
@@mogyver69 new to the jetski/2 stroke motor world so i don’t know much about them the wires that are burnt go from the cdi to the stator and after looking in some spots there burnt so bad shredded wires are just sticking out and snapped. i have new wires on order but what would cause them to do this? and if the wires are burnt that bad would it cause damage to anything else?
@@Hunter-dd6cl if I was guessing I’d say your stator is fried. If you got a new or used one it would come with all the wires as part of the unit. Shop Ebay there not to expensive. A lot of times you can buy it with the front cover used , then all you have to do is remove old bolts remove cover and install new. Run the wires back up to the electrical box and connect everything. If the CDI connectors are melted or corroded cut the plug off and put new connectors.
The machine had not ran in while. Acted like the carbs were gummed up. But after running on the hose and giving it a quick rev or two it cleared things. The owner did not want to spend anymore money rebuilding the carbs so He picked it up and as far as I know it ran great all summer.
A lot of people go right to the CDi Unit blaming it, but a lot of the time its as simple as the switch you put the key in , it corrodes inside. Try putting the key in and press the stop button several times. also put the key in and take it out several times. Just getting that part moving again cleans the terminals inside and it will start to work again..
I have a 97 polaris sl 900 with no spark tried a new battery changed the coil the last time I ran it it was almost out of gas. Is there a sensor that will kill the spark due to low fuel? Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm kind of thinking its the stator though
The stator is bad or your CDI. The stator has a pickup. Its located in the front of your engine under the flywheel. The CDi is inside your electrical box. You will need a electrical diagram to test the stator first. There's sites out there Greenhulk.com that deal mainly with Polaris there will be someone there that can help you. Good luck.
