Correct those are the only 2 vareiables that can be changed in the stock primary. it is going to run a heavyer weight then you could with stock springs to give you better grip on the belt and the stiffer spring helps with that along with giving it a little bit of a stall to help it off the line a bit more.

@mcskatin Primary moves due to engine RPM. Secondary moves as a function of torque.

I changed the drive belt on my 2003 , 600 polaris now the bike wants to creep when idling and you can't change the gears. what do you suggest? Ronnie Deese

Check your one way bearing in the center of the primary clutch. With the belt off it should turn free one way and lock up the opposite direction. If it doesn't turn either way you will need to replace the bearing. Also make sure you have the correct belt for your machine. Check the actual numbers on the belt. If everything else looks right your clutches might be out of alignment.

during low torque my belt does not reach to the top..what should I do?

Our kits dont give you more torque they allow your CVT to operate more efficient getting more power to your wheels witch helps you accellerate faster.

So the belt on my 04 600 sportsman keeps shredding. I pulled the clutches out and noticed that the markings of the primary clutch were not in line. Can that be the cause?

It can be but that would normally effect the balance and vibration of the clutch more then anything. If your belt is shredding I would clean your clutches really well, inspect all the bushings and rollers and also check the alignment.

Also, I have taken my primary and secondary clutch’s off and there is some scaring on the primary clutch sheaves. It doesn’t look terrible but it is a little rough to the touch of a finger. There is a little on the secondary clutch as well but more on the primary. How much scaring or wear is normal?

To check alignment Polaris make a tool to lay in the clutches and check of the offsets. But you can get an idea just by looking at your clutches with the cover off. Look down through the top or front and see where the belt is riding in the primary clutch. It should be centered. If the belt is way off to one side or the other put the machine in neutral and rev it up just a little and let off and see where the belt comes to rest. If it is way off it will cause you some issues. On the older Polaris you can either add or take away shims behind the secondary or you might have to loosed your engine and transmission mounts and move them a little. If the scaring is deep enough where you can feel the grooves then it will act like a cheese grader on your belt. Take some emery cloth or light sand paper and try to smooth the clutches out and then use a clean rag and brake cleaner to clean them up.
