The 850 in this video is mine and we did run it again and got 108 on the gun so were gaining. He did hit 123 on the speedo on the second run to bad my battery crapped out before I could get it. I think everyone should watch the other video he posted because those runs are there.
I think speeds are low due to clutching and gearing for the conditions. I had tall gears and soft springs hoping for big numbers but I think it actually slowed it down. For that combo to work I’d need flat ice and some moisture to make her roll. People seem to underestimate the conditions in this video tho, there is absolutely no moisture which really adds drag and 90% of the run is on said dry snow
I had a XC 700 same generation, 90mph was a test for it. But a rarely tested on hard pack. I'm sure it could have been clutched better. But an old 800 doing 110mph is nuts
@@heatmoon Those "old" triples can still run with the big dogs 🐕😳on the lake. Take a well setup XCR 800, or Mach Z, add some medium porting, and ideal conditions, 130mph is within reach. Those triples haul ass on top end, even stock. Ask that 850 owner!!!!😂😆🤣
Those XCR'S are fast. My Arctic Cat F 8 would hit 107mph in 600 ft, not a stock engine of course. Trail mods kept me smiling. My 2009 Polaris Dragon Switchback topped out 105 mph. Radar guns were not used, but speedo runs, so, not sure how accurate the speedos were. The cat was 3/4 throttle and gaining. Always, fun.
I had an '03 XCR 800. I Radared 117 on so-so lake ice covered with several inches of snow. Of course, the 'Politician' calibrated speedo said around 125+!!! Never really got a good radar run on excellent ice......
It’s funny everyone says this sled would beat that sled blah blah blah cuz the speed seen in this video are low...but guess what the conditions dictated the speeds. We ran the 850 on a different day in my other video and it ran at least 10mph more than in this video
Sled design has a lot to do with it. Put the new twin in the old xcr any see what happens. A lot of drag on new sleds. But ya can't beat a triple with a twin to easily
I just bought 2020 XC 850 Indy 137 and have a 03 XCR 800 that is not stock. My XCR has hit 119mph in good conditions on GPS, but has hit as low as 99mph in shitty conditions. It's all about conditions. My XC 850 has just over 9 hours on it or 200 miles. It has built in GPS and I took it up to 106 mph and backed off. Don't want to push it until it has 12hours on it, out of break in mode. I have a 1.5 storm track, so gearing is lower than what comes with the 135 cobra. I'm hoping for 110 on the 850. Sure pulls hard though, cannot wait to see it out of break in mode. My 2014 Pro 800 with the 1.35 cobra hit 111mph and my 1998 Thunder Cat hit 124mph in 1000ft, the tcat is not stock. Most people read their dream-o meter and have no clue that their Speedo is out by 10mph. Dreamers. Thanks for posting the great video!
The44445544 poor conditions. Dry sticky snow. If it was ice I’m confident it would have been high 1 teens. There was a few other sleds there and the closest was my dads 850 Indy at 105
no idiot xcrs do about 110 mph its a 3 cylinder dummy ! do the math ,,fuck my old zrt800 was radered too at 109mph,, so no the 110 sounds correct..after 100mph chassis and rolling resistance come into play too much! example the older xp chassis from skidoo has way less friction that gen4 google it! older polaris's were the same way ask any REAL racer and he'll tell you the old wedge style polaris chassis were the fastest hands down,,drop a xcr 800 into a wedge and look out !
@@joeneault785 Thats right. Rolling resistance is important. MY 92 indy 440 will do 96 mph with my fat 230 lbs on it. Brake trail does 85 spinning the track. . Now it ant excatly stock. It's wicked fun to drive. My 800 XC only does 102.. which is only 10 mph faster if you can hang on. f'n 440 one hander at 96.. But I'd love to find a donar engine to put into an older Storm XCR in a wedge!! WOW look out!!
@@joeneault785 you sound like the idiot 110mph is a well tuned piped 650 lol Xcr 800 with jetting studs and good conditions run high teens. Do your homework before flapping your lips 110 mph with 2 bellows torn maybe lol
CAn't BEAT the old TRIPPLE TRIPPLE. No Matter how improved the 2 cyl is. It'll still Vibrates and shakes like a big with those big soup can pistons...They'll never be as good as a Triple triple. Esp in the rotating mass Department.
That xcr isn't clutched right! My 1998 ultra 680 just with triple pipes and having the clutch shimmer does 119 on the radar on the ice and my dad's 2002 xcr 800 just with his clutching out pulls me on the ice!! get that clutch done you should be able to walk by brand new sleds top end
I'm thinking about getting an XC700 or XC800. Is there much of a difference between the two power wise? I'll be mostly trail riding with a little lake riding here and there. Are they good sleds overall? Thanks.
6.4 HemiDriver if you can I’d look for an 02-05ish xcsp 700. They are very reliable and around 135-140hp. The 02-05 xcsp 800 had crank bearing issues if I’m not mistaken. Never owned one. I did have a 99 xc700 and that was a fun sled, for the most part reliable other than the water pump belt breaking a couple times. It also wasn’t very fuel efficient lol The 99-01 XC 500 and 600 are also bullet proof and both are underestimated on the lakes for what they are.
Joe Rutkowsky It’s probably with the plug wire off, a rats nest in the airbox, and the carb gummed up. My friends 1980 Citation 377SS does 400 at 1/4 throttle.
NO matter how much Power you have or clutching. You cant overcome the Physical limitations of the gearing. And why cat went back to Chain and gears instead of that crappy diamond drive. Gen 2 800 xcr had over driven clutch 10% at max.. and gearing(24-39) 1" lug track to give it a max speed of 119.46mph at 8250 rpm.. and a rider weighing from 180 to 220lbs. New 850 XC doesn't have over driven Clutchs only 1 to 1 n I've never seen a team clutch get to 1-1.. only ever .90 they tend to have spring bind.... XC is geared with 22-41 for the 1.5 cobra =a crappy 92.19 mph with 1-1 clutching factory or if you opted for the lower lug track.. 1.3 that gives you. 23/37= 106.80 mph and better mid range fuel mileage if i might add. Sometimes Newers isn't beater.
otahu Rice the XC will In fact over drive as we’ve radars it at 108 and am very confident we will see over 110 in better conditions. I also own a 14 Indy 800 with power commander V, VF3R reeds, 23/40 gears and clutching and Iv radared at 109mph so that’s 9% OD with a team clutch. So they will OD it’s all in setup
Cfr 1000 would routinely hit 120plus with that crappy d drive!! If you changed out the restrictive y pipe you would be way north of 120. My dealer country cat bought and sold truck loads of Cfr 1000’s with that crappy d drive!! We know what they ran. When cat went back to chain drive, I’ve been fighting that nightmare for the last 9000 miles on my turbo. Sucks
@@VIPmechanics we hit -52 with windchill that was with out the windchill that night it was like -42 where we were just saying i hate it its fucking cold man lol
Jason Marta it’s in the credits, 410 mains and 144s studs. Setup was way overkill for the conditions. It wasn’t rolling nearly good enough for tall gears and soft springs
What if a winder or viper turbo stops by??? I ran the same spot your at. Half throttle around 80 to 90 100. I did that in a quarter of the time it took that sled. However I like Polaris leave the lake racers title to Yammie.
Might see you out there sometime. Its all good. Last time I was at this spot I ran a doo down he had 400 yrds head start. I laughed o that's Yammie blue that kicked your ass.
Joe Rutkowsky I think it depends how the radar gun is used, the gun is most accurate when the object your radaring is coming directly at you. That’s where gps has the advantage but I’m not sure if a basic over the counter gps is completely accurate. Hard to say. I have a G-tech pro timer that uses satellites to calculate speed and distance and it seems quite accurate with my car
GPS is more accurate as long as the speed is stable. Acceleration and deceleration isn’t tracked well enough due to refresh rates of most GPS units. I have 2 GPS of different types and both read within .2mph of each other when I’m at a steady speed. The problem with radar is that it is picking up so much spurious radiation. It’s accurate but not as precise as GPS.
Coaster Brookie the GTech pro performance meter I have uses a 50Hz GPS engine. It links with up to 15 satellites to get speed and distance etc. works very well
Xcr 800 exhaust valves are hurting the top end performance. My 04 xc800 would only run about 100mph with the valves, i removed them, pipe plugged the hole, 120 plus mph all day long.
@@discgolfus75 comparing oranges to apples.... sidewinder is a four stroke turbo with a fat price tag An Xcr 8 was half the money and set the carbs up and clutches maybe even throw a set of htg pipes and youd see 120+ abit of trail porting and hot seat heads would really wake it up and glare ice 125+ all still well under the price of the 650 lb turbo four stroke.....
Then when you want to do a reflash a muffler and clutching how much does that cost and your only gaining 10 mph four stroke tuning is a rip off...... for what you actually gain.
pol aris this was my 3rd XCR I’ve owned. Great sleds but sadly parts are being discontinued and becoming harder to find. So I decided to move on from the XCRs and sold the sled a couple months ago. I do miss it sometimes but I have a couple other sleds to keep me occupied.
lol 104 ?fuck my old zr800 suzuki does that,,thanks for sharing thou..better do better than that if you see my 2002 zr800 coming,,lmao maybe next year polaris,,these 850 are terds same as skidoo 850s i raced one with my old 2012 xp and smoke him,
Jake Farrell I’m sure it does the gen 2 chassis is more efficient for top speed. 0-100 the 850 is an animal specially being 100% stock besides 135 studs. I put my gtech pro performance meter on it yesterday. Under 2.85-3.0 0-60mph times and 11.85-12.0@102-104mph 1/4mi times
Rich Hilton my uncle had an 07 attack. It did have decent topend but to say you’d “smoke” these sleds is foolish specially given the conditions we had that day. Unless your running a power adder I don’t believe you.
@@joeboosted3c60 Those new 850's are junk, been hearing from some people in Wisconsin that they have been blowing the motors like crazy! I would smoke them all day long with my 4stroke! Not one Polaris has even seen my tail light on the ice drags!!
Those 850s are only good on bottom and mid had one going 106 perfectly groomed trail that was it. I know the XCR can do 110-120 easy And a t cat can do 120-130 easy sooooo yeh new sleds are meant to have torque not speed now
