Indeed, it does produce a nice look! I see your sunflowers are still looking amazing! The light leak I wasn't aware of...pretty neat! Hope you are enjoying a nice weekend out your way!
I do love my toys lol. Cameras nowadays are all so sharp and nice…It’s nice to throw it backwards sometimes. This lens was simple to use and can pull off some great surprises and some fun moods. I need to do a sunflower episode before the wind does what it will do!
this is an interesting little lens, i really like the shot at 4:17! i think using a film recipes def adds to the "nostalgic" feeling of each shot with this lens. what a concept bringing light leaks to digital cameras haha
Crazy huh? The lens adds grain (noise? lol) and I have the film grain set in camera, throw a burst of light and watch the textures dance in the light. it’s cool and I wouldn’t be surprised if more makers don’t try this approach. Thanks Kendra! Hope you are well!
Got TBH Dan, initial looks, i.e. this video, I like it....I like the shots you got. I like it light leak off, I think gives a more classic look and light leak on, for that long lost summer-nostalgic look, But I do think it looks nice and I kind of like that style of shot, so for around $140, a nice lens in the tool box. Couple of questions, slightly rhetorical...so I'm presuming the central focus is a linear central band?, as you said straight down, and that's what it looks like...and secondly, I'm presuming that if you want to use the lens with a light leak, then your actual composition is dependent on where the sun is in your scene?...which will obviously have a limiting factor on the composition you would actually like...Which, strangely enough, might just make you think slightly left-field regarding composition, adding a bit of a different dimension into the photography process...mmm, that could be pretty cool. Is there any peripheral light leak when the sun is not directly in your composition? Maybe just to the left, or right? I presume there would be some effect.
Long lost summer nostalgia look is exactly right lol. The part I was struggling with was controlling the texture/grain with the light flare. This perfect wonderful texture that I can’t control with exposure! Really hard to nail it down but when you get it you know. I intended to use more oof foreground for framing but only got a few that way. In a few of the photos I got the light leak to bloom the entire frame fairly even. I was surprised how well it did before the sun. The lens itself + a ton of ISO in low light looks really cool. I’m hoping it will do well on old cars and trains too lol. Fun to use and it takes a little practice but it has some very nice surprises too!
