Funny thing is my sunflower beds never get a seed planted. They self propagate each year. All I do is thin out the seedlings so everyone has room. This time of year I really enjoy the birds feasting and replanting for me!!!
@@wendingourway Our winters are mild here. Mostly dry cool to cold and windy with lots of sun. lol Things take a long time to rust in less than 10 inches of rain per year. Dust is year round lol. Sunflower seeds dry and fall off and the birds and squirrels get most of it but not all. What’s left is next year’s sunflowers. 🌻
@@OneCameraOneLens The temps are high but the humidity is low. Desert low. The sun is the killer as it beats down like a mf’er. The wind can be scorching hot sometimes. Our home air conditioning bill costs more in three months than the heating bill for the entire year. Your puppy is adorable dude! Benny is part Golden Retriever and I adore those traits. I have Leica-Like loaded on the Street Rat BTW
Very nice again. And I know what it's like to not want to get out and do video! I have a new puppy, so as soon as his shots allow him to go out in the wild, I'll try and start videos again.
Any time I see a B&W image it immediately takes me back to my days in the darkroom at high school and my own makeshift darkroom in the family bathroom! Oh my, the hours and hours...and not even realizing that so much time had passed. Those were fun times!
It sure looks like you are way over 10 feet away!! LOL...Otis figures he needs to stop and pee over every dog before him...even when his bladder is totally empty! LOL Those pictures more toward the end on the trail in the wooded area were marvelous!! Very moody!!
Benny will get up and walk across the yard like it’s a chore he must do because Jolene p’d. lol. We call it P-mail. Yes, I agree, the photos near the end really found what I was after. Very painterly. I should really do my videos in reverse so the best photos are first. lol. The best pics are almost always near the end of my photo shoots.
I say the same thing while editing 360 video. lol. It would be cool if RU-vid would let viewer pinch in or pull out the video like you can while editing 🤯
I love street-photography Dan, so this is right up my strasse. Get this one out the way to start, but I think this is your best video to date. An all-round great photography combo, camera, lens, recipes, filter, that, imho, just nailed that broody old analogue look, that could be old photos that have been sat in a dusty draw for the last 30 years, that we're looking at. Fuji cameras and the whole system gives photographers so much depth of choice to get really creative...I've tried a couple of Captn 's recipes and thought they were very good and quite unique really, clearly a guy who has taken a deep dive into the world of formulating and understanding recipes and the whole science...I must get an FLD soon, to properly try out his 'FLD recipes', and they're pretty cheap really. I'm also really tempted with the PolarPro 28mm, again, a bargain price. It just shows you don't have to spend in the high hundreds, or thousands, to get results you want....Anyway, great stuff, I loved the images, and also, I think the video footage in this looks excellent.
I might have chosen the 16mm if I had it to do over…but still, I’m liking this focal range for an all around carry. The 16mm has the vignette and it looks nice and natural. These lenses are center driven so having the corners and side collapsing really brings attention to the center. I LOVE the focus fall off on the sides of the frame. I wrote PolarPro and told them they should send me the 16mm for all the free advertising I gave them lol. Most of the CAPTN LOOK Recipes are free but his newer ones have a fee. If I had a newer x-trans I’d be all over those. The part of the photography I didn’t (couldn’t) capture well is how well the spot point metering helps in finding the exposure that works best for the recipe and lens. There is no need to focus so I spent that time working exposure instead. Contrast exposure to create focus is really what’s going on. Oh, and, FYI, if you do the CAPTN FLD recipes, the exposure can be limited in range and tricky to find your spot…but once you find it…magic baybee! I didn’t care for the Medulin necessarily, just too soft on the contrast for my taste. I’m replacing it with Restless Tint. Thanks so much for the comment on this video! I was concerned about the flow but feel more at ease. Thank you 🙏
The main library here in Halifax is pretty much across the street from its old location, and it too is designed with mostly glass as its exterior...lots of natural light. Although one can't get in at this time as the librarians are in the second week of a strike. Always great to support one another on our channels...heading over to check on Rich!
Yes, starting a RU-vid channel can be a humbling awful experience even for very skilled people lol. Richland is one of the Manhattan Project work towns until 1958 so much of the infrastructure before that was utilitarian based. Many of the old government buildings still left have been repurposed within the city. The public library was one of the first buildings built by Richland and not the US Government so I’m glad they added a shell and saved it.
Hmmm, "Not my fault." The first three words of any one who is guilty! LOL Too many faults for even me to start identifying...you'll have to ask my friends and former students...they will certainly have many that they could point out to you! LOL What is the world is a "glimmer glass"? There's one for Google after this one. There goes a few minutes of my life and that is your fault! LOL LOL
@@wendingourway Glimmer Glass is what I call the CineBloom filter 10%. Several good companies make soft-light type filters for a lens. This one is from Moment. I just refer to them all as glimmer glass. Finding that was a fault solved three big geological anomalies I walk around regularly. Solved! I made some assumptions and made a whole video about what I thought it was….I was sooooo wrong! The good thing is I have a small audience that will forgive me or not care lol and….who they gonna tell 😜😆😄🤣 The fault was my own hang up but learning new information is always a plus. I’m perpetually the student who just doesn’t get it but when a discovery is discovered, everything falls in like dominoes. Hey! I get it!
Awesome sunset! Love those warm, vibrant colors! Isn’t it amazing how no 2 sunsets are alike. 😉👌 Cool discussion of the folds and faults… I have a hard time seeing geology ‘faults’ unless someone sets it out plain for me, but I’m just a baby beginner anyway 😂. Great that you figured it out and super cool that you can walk right over the area and see the terrain. Great visuals with the 360 showing the folds all around!! Ciao - Jen 😎
I’ve been meaning to get back there for a while. The heavy construction equipment really threw me off the track. Huge amounts of earth have been moved by man around in this area. I got a hold of a fault map in my area and my jaw dropped…three big mysteries….three odd land formations I perplexed over and over about. I was so convinced it was ice age flood erosion (as just about everything is around here lol) Nope! this is uplift with a massive fault crack that runs 4-5 miles right through Danland!
@@JenniferLupine Bruce Bjornstadt website. The problem that got me stuck in confusion was that the open faults became borrow gravel pits. The Fold I was on has river rocks on top lol
DAN! I'm finally back to watching some vids! I love the way you discover things and tell us about some of the history. Fantastic man. Makes me want to learn more! Sorry I haven't been around lately - I'm catching up with a busy summer!
Now there's a beauty of a morning to get out for a wonderful wander around for sure. Must have been a day for sleeping in for the four-legged family members! LOL
Yeah, my daughters had a party that kept the pups up all night lol. Neither one raised an eyebrow as I headed out lol. They had a hangover from the pizza and petting from the party.
Beautiful morning! You made it before the sunrise! 👌🙌🙌Great light on the RR tracks and behind the bridges! The area looks familiar, lol… fun hyperlapse - looks peaceful down at the river! 💚💚🌳☀😎Ciao - Jen
@@DanFarrar lol! 😆I hope you get a train soon! Btw, I think I’m running out of time before my trip to pop over - I'm just going to use my GoPro. I super appreciate your offer of help with the 360 editing - I’ll try to come over in Nov or Dec, depending on the weather, and if it’s good for you. 😆 I’m looking forward to playing with the 360 and finding my own style somehow 😆😄 You make it lots of fun!! 🙌🙌⭐⭐
this is an interesting little lens, i really like the shot at 4:17! i think using a film recipes def adds to the "nostalgic" feeling of each shot with this lens. what a concept bringing light leaks to digital cameras haha
Crazy huh? The lens adds grain (noise? lol) and I have the film grain set in camera, throw a burst of light and watch the textures dance in the light. it’s cool and I wouldn’t be surprised if more makers don’t try this approach. Thanks Kendra! Hope you are well!
Indeed, it does produce a nice look! I see your sunflowers are still looking amazing! The light leak I wasn't aware of...pretty neat! Hope you are enjoying a nice weekend out your way!
I do love my toys lol. Cameras nowadays are all so sharp and nice…It’s nice to throw it backwards sometimes. This lens was simple to use and can pull off some great surprises and some fun moods. I need to do a sunflower episode before the wind does what it will do!
Got TBH Dan, initial looks, i.e. this video, I like it....I like the shots you got. I like it light leak off, I think gives a more classic look and light leak on, for that long lost summer-nostalgic look, But I do think it looks nice and I kind of like that style of shot, so for around $140, a nice lens in the tool box. Couple of questions, slightly rhetorical...so I'm presuming the central focus is a linear central band?, as you said straight down, and that's what it looks like...and secondly, I'm presuming that if you want to use the lens with a light leak, then your actual composition is dependent on where the sun is in your scene?...which will obviously have a limiting factor on the composition you would actually like...Which, strangely enough, might just make you think slightly left-field regarding composition, adding a bit of a different dimension into the photography process...mmm, that could be pretty cool. Is there any peripheral light leak when the sun is not directly in your composition? Maybe just to the left, or right? I presume there would be some effect.
Long lost summer nostalgia look is exactly right lol. The part I was struggling with was controlling the texture/grain with the light flare. This perfect wonderful texture that I can’t control with exposure! Really hard to nail it down but when you get it you know. I intended to use more oof foreground for framing but only got a few that way. In a few of the photos I got the light leak to bloom the entire frame fairly even. I was surprised how well it did before the sun. The lens itself + a ton of ISO in low light looks really cool. I’m hoping it will do well on old cars and trains too lol. Fun to use and it takes a little practice but it has some very nice surprises too!
I don't think I missed one episode of Welcome Back, Kotter! Who knew that John Travolta would become such a star! Indeed, Oscar was my favourite as well...he made the show...him, the Cookie Monster and Bert!! Can't forget The Count either! lol All those settings make me feel like it is time to bring back the good 'ol Kodak 110!! lol Another great day out with the gang!!
you and Otis should definitely break out the Kodak! Smaller film and early digital cameras are making a big comeback and are quite popular again. There aren’t ant one hour photo booths around but plenty of online options to purchase and develop…go for it!!! -or have fun thinking about it lol. sorry to say it would be easier with a cell phone ☎️ woulda thunk that Mr. Kotter? lol
The iPad app I used is called 1998 Cam. It has a nice variety of overlays and effects. I recommend under exposing your photo from the camera as the app tends to brighten the dark tones. Next is color.
Well, Danland has a better ring to it than Bruceland! 😞lol The people who are the troubles in the neighbourhood with their dogs are moving...house has been sold! It's quite funny watching all the smiles on people's faces as they walk by the house now. Peter, Paul and Mary would be proud of hearing their tune being put to this video!! Seems to always be a strike going on somewhere. We seem to be having a change in our humid conditions, so Otis and I just may venture further than our own neighbourhood soon. Take care and have yourselves a wonderful weekend.
Hi Dan! Hi Dragon!! Fun walk around Danland! What a lovely new library... great modern design. Did you say it's re-purposed? That's great! We have lots of empty buildings near us that could use a new life :) Fun song... that's an oldie!! 😃😎
Title courtesy of you lol. It’s always been a library (Carnegie brick type) but the glass shell is newer. Anyway, I’ll learn that and more. Public building tour…I even get in early 😁 The Kadlec strike is quite an event in this town. The pay scale is wayyyy heavy on the top for a non-profit (lol) hospital.
Thanks for the history behind the green bridge and its troubled past. We have many many troubled stories spread across our country! What is sad is that the racism still continues this date... Thanks for the share, Dan! Have a good. night!
@@PlacesWeGoExploring It does continue and in this case the past gets covered up by lame historic (white) legacies. The real story is that time marched past the local racism. It wasn’t a policy or law that removed the sign, it was progress and a need for a bigger bridge.
Interesting history and great photos. Funny how the tourist signs don't even mention the racist sign at all, so typical that we try and white wash our history to make ourselves feel better. Lots (and I mean lots) of that type of thing has happened up here in Canada as well...👍
Here in the states we point to the south as the place of racism. Blacks who migrated away from the south looking for opportunities often found the same treatment just “covert” and less blatant. When the government recruited 50+ thousand workers to move here (NW USA) as part of the Manhattan Project, many came from the south. (white & black workers) so policies and procedures followed. 1968 is too recent to ignore IMO.
So many places, even in non-descript areas, one can find some pretty troubling checkered history. Just hope we are always willing to learn from it. Sure had a beauty of a day!
@@bombdiggityarcade7089 I used the Insta360 app to trim and edit color. I exported from the insta app in 360 (not flat) to my photos app then uploaded directly to RU-vid from photo app. The key is to export from insta app in 360…not flat. I didn’t change a file name or do anything in RU-vid to identify the file as 360. It just worked.
Nice format, fast paced, cam-crew, little journey...nice. ..and, most importantly, as this is a photography channel after all, I liked the batch of shots you captured. I think the colors, contrast etc, really suite the scene/s. I'm not trying to tell grandma how to suck eggs Dan, so presume you had an ND filter attached when pointing at/shooting the sun? I'm not sure how easy it is to get any sensor burn-in, or related problems, but I just err on the side of caution and avoid pointing my camera at it. Man, that river looks quite a beast, very impressive. I remember you did some nice Fuji shots featuring this river a few months back, They were great photos.
@@innercityunit2112 you know I didn’t use an ND because I wasn’t doing video…but yeah, better safe than sorry for sure. The VIVID Photo Style is really nailing the man made objects with plenty of color and strong details with decent DR (amazing for a JPEG actually). I missed the tips of cranes more than I’d like to admit lol damn EVF lol. I wouldn’t want Fuji focusing on a body like this so I’m glad it’s not lol. The S9 auto focus is blowing me away. Continuous focus is so cool! But, the tips of the cranes…sigh total user error.
Fun summer music- and great colors coming through on the video! Nice area and cool Farmer’s Market! The waterfront and trees always seem so cool and refreshing, love those trees! Have a good one Dan!! 🌳💚😎
We have had cooler weather lately so I am out more lately PLUS my new camera is really fun!! You got some great videos in Utah Jennifer. Those high mountain lakes are incredible.
@@DanFarrar Thanks- they sure are! There’s something about that high mountain air! I wanted to message you- should I no use your cell or Instagram chat? Which is better?
A Crane symphony/ they’re so tall! Super fun to see how they look like they’re bending over and such long shadows! Great editing!! Cool old trucks and train cars too!! 😄👌🙌🙌
@@JenniferLupine I guess the biggest crane is off site working. Most of the areas I wanted to go to were marked no trespassing 🤨 Great day with my daughter too ❤️
It’s technically a city street so it should be fine but there were signs and I do my best to be safe. I noticed there were tours (not public necessarily) but worth checking on. The history is nutty just like all the other WWII projects around here.
@@DanFarrar I hope you can take a tour sometime- looks like they've got some great stuff in there. Were the cranes really as tall as they looked? Very impressive! I hope your daughter will join you on more videos! :)
Hi Dan, a couple of observations. The audio is really good, much improved from a little while ago, and the IBIS looks very solid, as noted by many, almost gimbal like. I didn't know you were a graffiti artist..😲😂😉 Ahh...Slade....a big favourite for me back in the 7o's, and they could rock too!, they had some heavy sounds going on...Check out Slade Alive!
I’m listening to Alive right now. I really noticed Slade when all the U.S. hair metal bands were covering Slade tunes in the 80’s. UK had all the good Glam IMO lol. You know….I wondered about being blamed for tagging my own name and taking a pic lol. Truth is it said Sally & Dan but the &Dan fit nicely at the end lol. I used the Portrait Photo Style which reminds me of Fuji’s ASTIA but maybe a little punchier in the deep darks. The 18mm & 85mm f1.8’s make the 20-60 look like a kit lens lol. The 20-60 is good but…dang, these primes are a nice mix of cinema/photo hybrid goodness 🔥🔥🔥 and so lightweight too.
For a full frame camera plus lens the weight is very manageable. I’m thinking I might have jacked up the stabilization more than necessary so I have some tuning to do lol. Mostly, I need to not be an action cam spaz with the camera and work on clean focused stable video. lol
