It's frustrating how the majority of these public servants are uneducated... We really need to put these people through a couple classes and tests.

David Brooks used to be the principal at Carrollton High School, and he started there as a math teacher. He was notorious for giving his students a packet of worksheets in lieu of teaching each semester. However, everyone called him Coach Brooks because he was one of the many faculty members involved in athletics.

Respect to the city manager for admitting when hes wrong. One of the first I've ever seen. Watching in support for all those upholding the constitution.

City Halls are public buildings. The U.S. Constitution-1st Amendment gives Journalists the Right to film in public. He holds Public Employees Accountable for their jobs. It is a U. S. Constitutional Right to film in public buildings and to film Employees as they go about their daily work.

Its still a fail!! They're starting to catch on, but the mentality of their righteousness is alive and well! "Their building" The conversation at the end was awesome!! So satisfying, felt hopeful!! That is how it should be, from the start. Talking, listening, HEARING, understanding, paying attention....I understand the instinct to protect your staff (when people work together, y'all get to be a lil tribe) worry about protection, having concerns about what is going on, that's natural. So ask the questions and LISTEN to the answer, stop that panic and pay attention...this auditor was entirely respectful. Had they opened their ears & minds, maybe these "fails" will stop happening. We are all equal!! We all have the SAME rights!!

You need to try and find and film the fire evacuation plans on the wall. It gives a 2d layout of the building.

But even still if the office is open for a.member of the public to go in and do their business then it's considered open to the public and you have every right to go inside them as well.

So, if you will allow for some corrections and comments: 1. You kept saying "Carroll County City Hall". This was Carrollton City Hall. The actual Carroll County government buildings were two streets over. 2. 'Signing In' does not violate your 4th Amendment rights (search and seizure). It's also not a violation of your 5th Amendment rights (Hiibel v. 6th District of Nevada - Supreme Court Case). In Hiibel, the Supreme Court stated the disclosure of your name is not a violation of the 5th Amendment. You were correct that you don't have to give it (via consent), though, without reasonable suspicion of a crime. If you consent, there's no violation. If they forcibly ID'd you, there would've been a violation. But voluntarily via consent signining is no violation. Deputy Chief Dobbs knew this, which is why he didn't ask you for your name and/or really impress on you to sign in at the front desk. 3. The building was the former Tabernacle Baptist Church of Carrollton, converted into City Hall. What you did not know was that if you walked upstairs, it was just 'archives and city records.' Some private documents, which is why you would have to sign in to go up there. On the other side of the door down the hallway that says "Staff" is the Police Department, so Dobbs asked you if you wanted a tour. So, half the building is the City Hall, and the other half is the Police and Fire Department. 4. You certainly have a right to film in there. I get the purpose of this. There were snarky attitudes on both sides.
