Putnam, a K-9 that found a teen with muscular dystrophy after he was missing for four days, joins News 6 with his handler Sgt. Emmett Merritt to talk about the search and Putnam's role.
thats true the only thing she did wrong she wanted to pet the dog from the upper side-better comming with your hand from below-most important by strange dogs! The trainer K9 reacts fastly when he saw it he immediately pet the dog too!
Not really... when this dog sniffs the ground it's floppy ears go down. So she seriously asked 'so that's all they can smell?'... Yep, that's why the cops use that breed. Can only smell their own ears. Just for aesthetics LOL
The officer was right about bloodhounds, they are not a lazy dog, they're hyper. I use to raise a few, they kept a path worn around their lot from always patrolling it.
It’s like they’re assuming everybody knows the story and now they’re just finding out about the dog that found the kid. Like you I know nothing about the story of the kid that was missing and I’m rather frustrated with this interview.
My daughter had a black lab in training and they were to find a guy that hid. They went to a pond got the scent towards a timber and about halfway there he stopped. My son in law realized he was looking at something. He followed the dogs gaze and there the guy was up in a tree! Abner sat down like my job is done dad there he is in the tree. Lol But sadly he had bad hips but we kept him busy finding the grkids and friends kids too. It was great fun but he got sick and had to be put down. There are many stories about him that we cherish. Would of loved to see your dog track and find that child. Keep up the good work.
They probably don't have a clip of it because...They didn't know where the teen was or when he would find him. It's not like they set up a tripod and waited by the kid lol
The kid was missing for four days. I’m pretty sure they didn’t film the whole four days worth of searching. And God for bid the kid was deceased. I really don’t think you want that on film.
@@candyc.3163 You think when you find a missing child or a murder victim you will pull your phone out and record instead of you know...tending to the issue at hand? "Bro i know you are a minor and have been missing and need water and assistance but let me put a phone in your face real quick without your permission (or parental consent because they don't even know you're alive yet...) so everyone on RU-vid can be in your business... I have water and food but just like... hold up, k? Lemme get this camera open..." Yikes.
THE BLOODHOUND IS SMART. You have to work for him when he slobbers all over the house. I'm glad you and your wife have one and she works the other county. That means you both have real understanding of this breed of dog, and their particularities.
Wish they would use these dogs RIGHT AWAY. There was a sad case years ago at Madeira School. Perhaps they could have found the poor girl in time if only they had used dogs immediately.
Love those breeds of dogs. My daughter just found a wonderful farm to relocate her 8 month Charlie. He hated it in the city. She tried occupy him constantly in the city. Loved our farm , we don’t live there full time. All he wanted to do was bark & howl constantly in the city, trying to hunt the cat, anything he could. Exercises wasn’t enough, they need to hunt & work. Was a very difficult choice she had to make for the dog to have a happy life. Adjusting very well in his new surroundings. Already got into his first porcupine. Only mishap. The most hardest, but unselfish decision she had to make for Charlie to give him a better life needed in the country than cooped up bored in the city. Now he’s not barking constantly cause he’s getting the right working exercise he needs & wanted. Has bonded well. Might have cost her $1200 got him at 8 WK’s. Took the loss to make him happy. Way to anxious in the city barking inside & out constantly. Big Beautiful extremely sweet happy personality. Loved the kids. Other dogs,& cat. Treadmill never tired him. He needed to work. She researched well to find him best home. Not an acreage but actual crop farmer. Lots to do in the country, lots of wildlife.
That is a good ending to her pup’s story. She is not alone; lots of people end up with dogs that are more active than they are (or are otherwise poorly suited for their situation), usually because they do not know enough about the breed prior to acquiring one (or else because of unexpected health issues that prevent the owner from exercising the dog adequately). I think back to the chronically ill lady with two jack russell terriers, the suburban family with a Saint Bernard, the arthritic woman with a blue heeler. It can be difficult to judge just how much activity and interaction a particular type of dog will require to be a happy and well-behaved dog.
awesome !!! send in putnam !! send in the dogs! thank you to his handler one of our leo’s and to the officers wife who also is a k9 handler ! just a personal opinion … all k9’s should be given a kevlar vest for safety especially if they are dealing with the bad guys… those beautful four legged heroes are life savers and they deserve at least that protection. they have been known to give their lives so others can live … what more can you ask of such a beautful creature who breaths and loves and saves lives !!! what an honor to just see them in action and to receive the recognition that is well deserved. 🌷🌸💗
@@michaelmullin3585 well indeed it would be… I could not agree more. However, if it’s a hot day and you are on the hunt for an active shooter you wear a vest so should the k9. If you are in Afghanistan on a mission or walking outside of the green zone .. it can be 120 degrees .. vest and 100lbs of gear. Hydrate. Water for the dogs and peeps. Of course make sure the dogs are checked out as they are by some of the best vets .. especially in the military .. they (dogs)are warriors too. Booties! Very important for search and rescue …ie, 9/11. How about the idiots who walk their dogs on HOT HOT days on the sidewalk without thought that their dog they say they love ..their paws are burning . People always need to access what’s best.. common sense as you know I’m sure . Unfortunately, there is not much common sense around anymore. If I see (and I have) a dog in someone’s car with an inch of window down and they are nowhere to be seen.. example (this happened because I did it) at the movie theater… do you even think I stood there and debated what the right thing to do was?? .. hell no I grabbed my glass punch and Shazam broke their window to save the dog. Took a whole 2 minutes tops from seeing it .. dog is in distress ..grab my punch. Do you think i give a flip about the owners car? That anyone that knows that living being will die a horrendous death because of some ignorant yoo-hoo’s don’t know how to take care of their dog .. The dog is safe. Don’t give a flip about the peeps watching the movie or their car . Left a note on the front windshield..drivers side was shattered . Took the dog. All stop. The end. Dog went to my vet and onto a no kill shelter and was adopted out to a lovely family. Maybe ..just maybe they will think about it . I doubt it. They never called . They had my number. Did I lose sleep no. Not a wink. I would lose sleep if I had not helped that dog. I do agree with you about the concern of heat and the safety of the dog and innocence.. the people I worry about are the one’s who don’t think and the ones who hesitate .. you are right. We must be mindful of the conditions both for the animal and for the people. Since animals can’t speak .. they need an advocate…..not some dumb yoo-hoo with the iq of their shoe size. Lol you can see I’m very passionate about this issue. Things can be replaced(car window) … people and mans best friends cannot….
Awww awesome reporters for doing such good research and great report. I just wish they showed finding the kid (probably for legal reasons they didn't) and I wish they said more about the kid too, and how is the kid doing
I love this. People actually don’t understand that having hundreds of well meaning volunteers all over an area can negatively impact a search when you just need a little luck and some well trained dogs ❤
Im so happy they found this boy but I wish there was this same sense of urgency for missing children across the country . Law enforcement should be using blood hounds and other search methods for the two missing West boys,(Orrin and Orsen) in California City. Also the only news crews that are reporting on it are two small local crews, the rest are all youtubers. I don't want to think it's about race, but it's difficult not to. Please help us spread the word and help get some national attention to this case.
When I was a kid early 60's my Best friend was a redbone/blue tick hound. Great memories. He grew up with his child's rocking chair. He would back up to it and sit down when he was grown.
Sweet puppy. Thank God he's family and will not be cast aside after retirement. Honestly, I wanted to know how the teen is. I'll Google it. Thank you for you Public Service to Community. God be with and your families. Amen
Aww, Putnam is a beautiful fella, hehe, and that lovely black lady really liked him too. I'll bet she really wanted to give Putnam a big hug, take his slobber chops face in both hands and give that big ol' saviour of a doggo a big ol' smooch between the eyes! Me too! 😙
Does anyone remember the Beverly Hillbillies Bloodhound dog named Duke? I still watch those wonderful re-runs😍. For years, Duke had given me the very wrong impression that all Bloodhounds were laid back, and lay on porches all day 🤣😅! How wrong I was. 🥰
Love bloodhounds! I have had several but never done tracking with them but I actually hid in a cornfield once and my husband took our dog about a mile away and she found m no problem. Miss having them.
