Police Incident - Etruria To Barlaston

I leave my mooring next to the Toby Carvery and move to the area by the Etruria Industrial Museum. I fill up with water and empty my toilet tank thinking I would then move on down the locks. This all fell apart when I was informed by a member of the CRT that the locks are closed due to a police incident.
I do an update about the incident as the video unfolds.

With some unsavoury characters around there sometimes it is nice not getting off the boat. He ia also a legend

Rob The Lock has helped us a few times, but we never knew his name! He is a lovely chap. The advice about mooring between Westport Lake and Etruria is correct - there is a lot of "business" going on at night on the towpath by moped. We watched this from Longport wharf.

If I am staying on the boat I am more likely to take the risk, but if I am going to walk off for a while I am very careful

Hi Trev I'm glad to see you are safe and well mate Another stunning video from you . for many years I have avoided this stretch of the canal system. Because of the lack of places to leave the boat...I have just got a notification that someone is using my e mail address...so untill I resolve this . All the best.

Take care and look after yourself. The stoke locks area is a bit suspect, but the canal before and after are wonderful and some of the safest canal cruising in the UK.

What puzzles me, is that I was at Barlaston when the stoppage started (going towards Stoke) and when the stoppage was lifted, I don't recall passing you, there were every few boats going south. I did help you out at Meaford locks in March(?) last year, so I'd recognise you and your boat.

Aha, I recognise where you moored, south of Trentham lock besinf the wynding hole; I picked up a duvet with it's cover, on the prop, just there, last year.

I was the very first boat down, if I remember correctly it was about 4.00pm Sunday afternoon. I moored up just after what I call the Wedgwood Bridge in the open. I then moved down to nearer the Plume a couple of days later.

I was a bit confused by this. You said a fisherman found a hand which prompted the police search. If nothing was found then what caused the police to go there looking? Something must have been found initially or police wouldn't have bothered surely.🤔

A fisherman said he caught a hand and it fell off, but as far as I no nothing was found.

The mornings along the stretch of canal in this video have always been poor. . years ago the old canal traders used to put a length of rope between the bottom of trees . And use that to tie up to..if it was to late in the day to move on... right up until the early seventys this method was used in many areas... Today it would not be allowed because of health and safety laws .. were people who walk along the toe paths may trip over the ropes.... Anyway Trev keep yourself safe and well mate. You never disappoint with your videos the are always interesting and informative and a pleasure to watch..👍👍👍,
