Most people couldn't identify an American Pit Bull Terrier. They think Staffs and Bullys are Pit Bull dogs. They are not! The only breed of dog that has the POTENTIAL to have zero flight response..is the true American Pit Bull Terrier. Thats why they are the catalyst in most bandog programs. Pain doesnt deter a good Pit Bull dog.

A bit late, but I just want to say that I discovered Robert a year after I adopted my Shepherd mix puppy and man, how I wish I discovered him sooner. Your content is great, but the passion and care you have for your dogs, it’s amazing. This past year, many people decided to get dogs out of convenience and having someone like you to provide content especially for working dog breeds is appreciated and very important. Thank you for all you do!

They are the ig trend, but the malinois hype is following the same pattern the Doberman hype had in the 60s and 70s and just like the Doberman from then if you get a malinois now 90% of the people can't handle the dog

I like the Belgian Malinois, Akita, German Shepherd and Cane Corso. My brother had a Doberman but I have no experience with the breed. I dogsit my brother's Malinois, his current dog, and in the past his previous dogs, an Akita, and a Mastiff breed. My niece has a Cane Corso which I like and her sister has German Shepherds. I also like labradors. My brother is sharing his Malinois with me when he needs a night out or a break. His dog is very much into his owner but he (male dog) settles for me when he is gone. He obeys commands pretty well although he is only a year old.

Watched a Shutzen competition 80s.. as far as the attacking part...the Rottweiler took the show! Amazing bite growling the whole time, impressive! The German Shepherds were better all around...except on the bite! I understood the Rottweiler was not kept as a K-9 in the 80s..for the fact that it was too hard to call off the Rottweilers. I must add...there was one! red nose pit... that was very... impressive!

When I got my dog handed to me because people couldn't handle him as a puppy, I was told he was a Malinois or German Shepherd mix with Labrador. I think sport dogs get sold short for being "sleeve happy"; when discussing whether or not they'll respond correctly in a personal protection situation. I do believe that, in a situation where the animal immediately senses danger, smells adrenaline/fear from it's owner; the dog will properly respond in all likelihood without being given the designated command. My experience is with GSD's; they're loyal & protect naturally. Working titles, Schutzhund/IPO/IGP merely enhances their capabilities.

It is one thing to train dogs like this for police or military....however there are way too many folks breeding, raising, and training other household breeds like this and the pups they do not believe have the proper attitude by 10 or 12 weeks of age they sell as pets. I am the recipient of a Boxer pup and her parents were bred with this type of background. My girl has been a challenge to train as a housepet from day one. In comparison to my previous Boxer that I acquired 12 yrs ago who was bred in a laid back , family setting. Please be careful with your breedings and do not sell pups as household pets that have these backgrounds. I am a dog trainer and have been able to work with my girl. However, other pups may not be as fortunate and could end up in shelters.

Shepherds are resource guard dogs. That's what they were bred for. They will chase off but not beyond the parameter. This keeps them from being baiting into a group of predators. They also have an off switch. Herding dogs are your collies, etc. Different traits and different skillsets. Cattle dogs are similar to herding dogs but were bred to kill large predators to protect the herd.

They would attack bite until I got there and out hold while he’s bleeding never taking there eyes off the perpetrator. Now it’s bark and hold why? If you want a dog for protection? Then follow through! That’s why you train them to be protective dogs! Sad really.

It depends on what you consider a pit, if you are talking about ADBA American pit bull terriers, or the umbrella term pitbull. There are probably dogs that are labeled pitbulls that can track just as well as a German shepherd. If you are talking about purebred American pit bull terriers, then no probably not. Not because they can't smell as well as a German shepherd can. A pit is more likely to get distracted by things happening in the environment. How good does the dog need to be able to track? Locate the wounded deer half a mile away after it crossed the creek, good? Or find a raccoon in a tree while it's so dark that you can't see your feet, good? Neither breed can track, like a Bloodhound or a CoonHound.
@peterschmidt7409
@peterschmidt7409 10 месяцев назад
Best bet on protection dogs are three breeds, and there is a reason that 99% of all police and military k9 squads use just these three breeds. That are german shepherds Film a working line with healthy orthopaedics. Show lines are useless in general. The other two are malinois and dutch shepherds. Given cane corso, presas, caucasians and kangals are excellent as guard dogs. No burglars in your house, guaranteed. But for protection work, they lack prey drive. They don't need the competition, they just react for the real thing. For protection work, my favourite will always be a good german shepherd, male (yes, testosterone counts in bite work), from a good working line. Pit bulls, i don't like so much for personal protection. I always found, they are either to social or to unstable. But before you crucify me, that is only my own experience. I am not a dog trainer nor am i a breeder, so there is that.

I play hide & seek with my German Shepherd pet dog--the FIRST part looks like that video shown halfway through!😂 Oh Lord, I understood & expected that the Police Dog was muzzled--but you COULDN'T clearly see the muzzle until the end...if Alin can get around to it, might be nice to flash a disclaimer that there IS a muzzle before that piece of film. Wow. These dogs are so special. I can't help but worry that they aren't universally respected & treated fairly & properly in all Police Departments. Military Dog training was HORRIBLE in Vietnam era. The dogs were just as likely to attack our forces as "the enemy". Dogs weren't even brought home. I suspect some old school Police Training might not be much better. There's a lot of nuance--just cuz that attack "looks" very scary--like this handler says, it's an art form--I'm sure his dogs are treated fairly & with respect. I just shudder to think of ANY of these dogs being placed unnecessarily in harm's way.

I used to play 'Guard Dog' with my Doberman years ago. I would just present myself in an aggressive stance. He would charge me, 'mouth' my arm and give a couple of shakes. Then he would release and come around again. And again. ... If I backed into a corner he would not attack me. "Tear and Release was his game." ..... I should note this dog was the runt of the litter and the only dog I have lived with that never bit another human.

My Calupoh looks like the black dog in the video. But he has no discipline. He likes to bite, but not disengage. He's part wolf. He is definitely wired different from GSDs and Malinois!

To biggest issue I see most when training dogs for actual protection, is most of the decoys and trainers have limited or never been in real life situations where they've needed to deploy a dog. So they make real nice quality sport biting dogs which can take a ton of pressure, but won't actually do the job for real.

Unless you’re in military or law enforcement most will not come across that situation. Idk how military or police go about really testing to see if a dog will really bite someone with no sleeve. I would think it would be tough to find a volunteer to take a bite with no protection. After all you don’t know until you know.
