The police are very compassionate....media could spend everyday showing interactions just like this one.....but they choose not to....it doesn't fit the CNN agenda

Its just about service, people choose to serve others and when you commit to that, pay and all the other garbage is worth it for moments like this...

Here is advice. You wont see the height if you keep your eyes on the road. Do not look around, look straight ahead. You have never ended driving off the side of the road have you? You still can drive but do not look at what might set you off.

I'm not afraid of heights. At least, not when I have a 50 feet wide hard slab of asphalt and cement and metal underneath me! HOWEVER what she is living is relatable. Some bridges around here are super obsolete and cracked all over. Now, crossing such an old bridge I always feel the bridge will choose that exact moment to utterly and catastrophically break just like in the movies, thus plunging me in deep water. Now THAT I am afraid of, and I feel the anxiety popping up in my chest even with being only a passenger. She was NOT putting other drivers in danger: Safely pulling over to the side of the road was the right thing to do. As for "on the phone with her children" part, she was PARKED, and clearly you know about "hands free" bluetooth phone calls, right? Or just letting the phone in speaker mode on the passager seat. It's a fricking bridge that she will cross at slow speed in a straight line without any special maneovers needed (no intersections or red lights etc.)... Not a frigging speedrunning parcour challenge. Facing her fears in teps is the right thing to do. People judge harshly way too easily. THRUST the policeman judgment here, he did the right evaluation and did the right thing.

It’s a tricky one to say maybe she shouldn’t drive. She had the good sense to stop before the bridge, so posed no danger to other vehicles. It would only be a problem if a driver had a panic attack in a situation where avoiding action needed to be immediate and they froze.

I understand why you would say that, but not driving would only reinforce the idea that she couldn't or shouldn't drive, potentially leaving her isolated and incapacitated. This experience may have been a first step in confronting and overcoming her fear and anxiety, and it gives her a positive success to build on. It may give her more confidence and less anxiety, overall, that extends into other areas of life beyond driving.

Since she didn’t even know how long the bridge was, I’m assuming she wasn’t from that area or else she was forced to detour to an area unfamiliar to her. Otherwise, she’d be used to using alternative routes to avoid that bridge. Many times you don’t realize you have a phobia until you’re presented with a situation you’ve never been in before. Once panic sets in, the determination it takes to go thru a situation rather than avoid it is monumental. His encouragement and promise to be right behind her the whole way was the right tactic. It not only got her off the side of the road but got her to overcome her fear. The fear is still there but now she knows she can work thru it. Her kids (that were on the phone) should now make it a point to ride with her over bridges at every opportunity. My dad wouldn’t let me avoid the Cooper River bridge in Charleston once he realized I never went to Mount Pleasant to visit family because of that horrible bridge (that’s when it was the original tiny, narrow…..can see it swaying if you stand back and look at it bridge). We went over that SOB 20 times one Saturday. I hated it but I never put off something I really wanted to do because of that fear ever again. His lesson was you need to know you CAN do it in case one day there is an emergency and you MUST do it. His answer wasn’t to take my license and not let me drive ever again. I’m still driving 40+ years later and I still don’t like bridges but I will cross them if necessary.

@@charmc4152 I understand your point but stopping as she did put numerous people in danger. Remaining there as long as she did seems extremely dangerous for her and everyone else traveling on that road/bridge. She needs to have her license suspended while she gets therapy for her anxiety

Anxiety can hit at any time without any warning. That could've been her first attack. Don't be so quick to judge.

For the occasional comment here by those who really misjudged the situation, unless you have had a panic attack & experienced it’s paralysing fear please don’t make such hurtful comments. Kindness, patience & understanding in this moment of need was what helped this lovely lady have strength to drive through her fear. It only took the Officer a couple of moments to see the situation for what it was & made a choice that helped her. Well done young lady, & Thankyou to a gracious kind Officer♥️♥️

The news does that specifically to demonize police and make the public fear them! There are way more great wonderful police officers than what the media chooses to poison your perception with!

If she was brave she would have driven across the bridge and no one would have been the wiser...technically, despite having compassion for her, she was the least brave driver on the road that day/week/year/ decade....I was expecting a flooded crossing or some other hair raising situation...all due respect intended my friend

I drive big rigs across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and became scared of them. But it was mostly that one and The Frances Scott Key Bridge.

I believe both of you guys and there is nothing wrong with that type of feeling. It's not a phobia but more of a type of situational awareness. I used to be a climber cutter for my tree service also employed with other companies to take down problem trees in tight spots. 30 yrs of it. Have felt that piss chiver more than I can count.I totally understand.I could never be an Ice road trucker though.

Yeah my wife and I were discussing that. Wondering how they get back across after getting paid to drive someone in their own car across.

​@@SpclOps20She had a panic attack. She suddenly became parazyed with fear and her brain was telling her she's in danger. Most would turn around back home, she pulled over, the cop calmed her and she continued through.

This is how most cops act, as long as the driver isn't being a complete, uncooperative idiot.

I think more cops than we know are fantastic people and wonderful to their community. But the news doesn't show that the news just shows thugs and criminals who are cops. And that leads to an impression that we should be afraid of them. My son who does have anxiety but functions amazingly stop pulled over not long ago and he's 19. The cop ended up lying but he got off with a very low ticket. But they made him call his mom me and her call her a mom his girlfriend and I think he was very disappointed because I was like damn tell him to slow down and he's like he's the worst driver and I was like really cuz he's the best in the house and that's not a lie. And her mother just said Tell him to slow down. 😂😂😂 I think the thought that we were going to scream at the kids. So he just relented and gave him a small ticket and he was on his way. It was enough to scare him properly. But because of the constant terrible media some people who are already in a panic are going to panic about the police as well. My heart breaks for her I just want to give her a hug and hold her hand over the bridge even though I'm terrified too

Because of one bridge? Anxiety is a brutal condition to live with. I'm thinking she probably does well enough in the other parts of her driving life. Why not give her the benefit if the doubt.
