Well, "kwaśne" means "sour", so no wonder that's what they are ;) As sure you noticed, Slavs generally like sour taste. Not only sweets or fruits but also in kitchen like bigos, żurek, all kind of pickled stuff. It has it's historical background, but it's a different story.

Jeżyki - very good pronountiation :) Delicje Szampańskie are the Polish equivalent and had been manufactured by E. Wedel since 1977. As of 2020, Delicje brand belongs to Mondelēz International, Inc. Hit is a German brand- Bahlsen.

The company that produces these gingerbread is one of the few 100% Polish companies that have been on the market for many years. They have dozens of kinds of products and they are all delicious. P.S. And the owners of ""Jeżyki" spend part of their income on rescuing and caring for real hedgehogs

I would not like to say that the Polish chocolate/confectionery industry is disappearing, but foreign companies have a large share in company management. Therefore, it is difficult to say that some sweets are still Polish. :) Freshly baked cakes give you more confidence! Preferably from a local bakery run by Poles.

20:21 the word "kwaśne" means sour... so it was fun to see your surprised face 😂 Side note: most polish recepies are combining 2 tastes: sweet and sour and most of our dishes are made that way- they are either sweet (like pierogi filled with blueberries with sweet cream on them) or with sour addition to brake the taste of food (like lemons in the plate next to baked/grilled fish- for customer to squeeze as much lemon juice on the fish as they like)

Since you said "gurkins" keep in mind that we have 3 types - kiszone, małosolne and korniszony (those taste similar to american pickles but more peppery) however store bought kiszone have a tendency to taste... bad. not comparable with those u make at home....AT ALL.

Cytryna is lemon Cytrynowa is an adjective (cytryna - lemon, cytrynowa/y - adjective of cytryna, it's describing taste of jelly) because polish has a variation by cases Your polish pronunciation and reading have improved Especially when you said "kwaśne"

I'm very glad you both like Torunskie Pierniki. Torun, my hometown, is famous for its gingerbread since Middle Ages. Kopernik factory has a tradition since 1763. If you are able to get Torcik Piernikowy or gingerbreads with rose or plum confiture... I strongly recommend. Btw Charlie didn't even blink when dealing with sour jellies 😂

Delicje was some big brand in Poland like in 2000, i remember alot of their commercials, there was even one about different styles of eating it. There was lot more kinds of them for example toffi, raspberry-but not just jelly- it was kinda of marshmallow. Actually when Tesco was in Poland, they got some tesco value jaffa cakes, but their quality was alot lower than delicje (it is actually kind of premium quality in Poland). About Jeżyki topping it depends on their flavour, but it is hazelnut, raisins etc.

Jeżyki - litteraly translates to "little hedgehogs". And this is quite accurate description of those sweets. Because of pointy top just like hedgehogs needles 🙂 delicje comes from word delicious and indeed they are like Jaffa cakes. But there are many more flavours. Raspberries, BlackBerry, cherry, hell even there was limited edition with white chocolate. As for Góralki waffle I recommend to try next time Prince Polo or Grześki. For drink I suggest to try Frugo, no matter which flavour, because there's so many. For sour taste you should try gum called shock. From candies try "korsarze", it something like malters but without crisp inside and with chocolate and coconut flavour. That's all my recommendations. You should find those sweets in Polish shop with no sweat 😊 Can't wait for next taste test.

Klasyczne polskie słodycze: "Toruńskie Pierniki" (były w tym filmie), "Delicje" (też były), zamiast tu próbowanych wafelków "Góralki" powinno być "PrincePolo" (to klasyczne w złotej folii - polecam rozmiar max), cukierki takie jak "Michałki", "Malaga", "TikiTaki", "Kasztanki", "Mieszanka Krakowska", do tego oczywiście kultowe "Ptasie Mleczko". Idąc dalej śladem cukierków - "Krówki" (klasyczne mleczne), "Śliwki w czekoladzie", draże z firmy Skawa. Co do batoników i wafelków to jeszcze z Wadowic ze Skawy trójkątne wafelki "elitesse". Potem jeszcze czekoladowe batony "Danusia", "Pawełek". Wafelki familijne. Wedlowskie "Baryłki" (z alkoholem). "Torcik Wedlowski". Tyle na tą chwilę sobie przypominam takich klasycznych. ;)

Delicje come with a jelly but there is one type (Toffii) comes with a sponge/mousse - delicious! You should try Plasie Mleczko, Princessa, Goplana chocolate, Michalki, Tiki Taki, Kasztanki, … so many wonderful snacks 🤤

I'm from Poland and I have never seen Oro ones. Maybe it's regional stuff or something

24:12 as a kid i used to love eating "draże" - realy small balls, these come with 3 different flavours : cocoa/chocolate, coconut or sweet cream. These are probably still arround, produced by Skawa. You should also try waffles by dr Gerard: "pryncypałki"

Najbardziej chyba rozpoznawalny polski baton to Prince Polo (różne smaki), niezwykle popularny w Islandii. Warte polecenia są również batony marki E. Wedel: 'WW' oraz 'Bajeczny'. Zdecydowanie za typowo polskie uchodzi ptasie mleczko chociażby marki Wedel - smaki od klasycznych tj. Waniliowe po bardziej egzotyczne np. Pinacolada, Marakuja, Mango shake itp

You should try ptasie mleczko, milky way, krówki and sezamki for sure :D also milk chocolate from ,,wedel'', very specific taste like no other :) your polish is very good, ,,kwaśne'' means sour :D

polish PricePolo wafers made a great career in Ireland and are very popular, you should also give a try to Krówki - these are hand made milk caramel sweets individually wrapped with a cow picture on them, also try finding Michałki - another very popular kind of chocolate almond sweets

Gingerbread is piernik or pierniczek in Polish, and it depends - piernik is a type of cake and pierniczek is the little one as this from Toruń 😄

Definitely you should try "Grześki", (its something like Góralki), and "Michałki" candies! My favorite is jelly coated in chocolate, preferably "Opolanki", its not like sour jelly (kwaśne means sour) and also plum covered in chocolate

Coconut Jeżyki are my absolute fav!

Wawel, Wedel, Jutrzenka, Bałtyk, those are (or were, because some are bought by other companies now) examples of Polish companies making sweets.

When you buy KWAŚNE, you MUST be prepared for SOUR, because that's what it means 😂 You MUST also know, that HIT are not polish, but german thing, and GÓRALKY are from Czech Republic. Try GRZEŚKI instead, or PRINCE POLO. Also KRÓWKI are a good example of polish sweets, but you MUST be aware , that there are 2 kinds. Fudgy ones, and crispy ones. Both have their die hard Fans 😊

Nice video, thanks! And your pronountiation of Polish names is so good! :) However I'm pretty sure that some of those sweets aren't really Polish-Polish. Like Góralky is a Polish version of a Slovak wafer biscuit - Horalky. We love them anyway! :D You should really try Ptasie Mleczko, Prince Polo, ciepłe lody (warm ice cream), rogal marciński, sękacz (a regional version I mean), krówki and irysy. :)

This was heartwarming to watch. You had a good choice of stuff there. Jeżyki is top quality, and when it comes to Hits, I feel a lot depends on flavour. Like, the chocolate ones are really basic, but they also have strawberry cream, or salt caramel... And I feel that's better. As for your pronunciation (which is really good!), I may have a little tip - when you pronounce Polish "i" (as in the middle of "Delicje"), try making it a long i: (like in english "beach" instead of... well, b*tch ;) short i makes it sound more like polish y). In general, I feel like learning pronunciation should be combined with phonetics classes, but that's something that was actually revealed to me at university.

"Hit" is German, "Góralki" is Czech, and the rest is made by some global corporations (Nestle, Kraft or something else). If you tasted "Jeżyki" 20 yrs ago, when they were really Polish and compared them with nowadays "Jeżyki", you would spot the difference. In the original product, real sugar was used and in the fake ones, the usual terrible glucose syrup is used. "Delicje" are not the original ones either, and the maker is probably the same corp that makes "Jeżyki". When I lived in Ireland and the UK, I liked "Custard Creams" and "Rich tea", as they were not too sweet for me, and there were kind of spongy, white cakes with some jam and these were super tasty 😋 I can hear Rob is making some serious progress in Polish! Well done, Rob! Keep up the good work :)

If, you like śmiej żelki and jammy inside of gummy bears, you should definitely try "Śmiej żelki SOKKI" they're similar in taste to classic ones but with sweet kind of jam inside.

My favourite ones are "Paryskie" from Biedronka, which are the cheaper equivalent of "Delicje" but still tasty

Gingerbread is good when fresh, it gets worse... or requires tea/coffee when it gets older and less moist. To find fresh ones you just squeeze it a little and when it gives it is fresh.

That Gingerbread and Delicje (our version of Jaffa cakes) is what I would consider to be Polish sweets - this is what we had on the market since like forever. The rest is just a rebrand of foreign sweets.

Round Christmas time you need to get from Polish shop Delicje with forst berry jelly and covered with white chocolate... mate! You'll know how heaven tastes!! It's not easy to get them, but they are the best!

You must try Grześki, Prince Polo, Krówki (fudge) and Michałki z Wawelu. Wawel also have "Mieszanka Krakowska" it's jelly in chocolate (I don't like because have a specific taste) and chocolate Wedel (Wedel has been producing chocolate since 1851, it survived the People's Republic of Poland where there was a shortage of cocoa and all companies were state-owned)

Typical Polish traditional ones include: Ptasie Mleczko, Chałwa Krolewska, Wawel chocolate (very many flavours) , bars: Danusia, Jacek, Grzesiek, Prince Polo, candies: Krówki, Kasztanki, Tofi, Malaga, Michałki, Irysy, Kukułki, Galaretki jellies in sugar, Toruńskie plums in chocolate, Nałęczowskie plums in chocolate, paluszki beskidzkie and lajkonik (sesame, salt, cheese), Korsarz candies, Wedel barrels and dozens of boxes of chocolates in various flavours. Buy these and you will feel the sweet taste of Poland.
