I think to just play it safe it's better to be prepared to eat dinner at home, stay out of highly populated areas, ect. Exactly. It's so important to realize there are just as many types of Christianity and Christian views as there are types of people. Every notion made in the political sphere is intentional, calculated and serves a purpose. No matter what the candidates personal conviction really is. It's all so interesting, especially when what I should be doing at the moment is to read for my theology course, yet I rather spend my precious time all around the internet speculating something that is happening on the other side of the world. This year is special in countless ways, I don't know a single person who hasn't been interested in the situation outside their own context.The pandemic shows in a congrete way how our relationships with others and the internal policy both have a role in all of our lives. Both humane and inhuman phenomena in the US have had a reflection in my country. The demonstrations have opened a conversation about racism (my countly shamefully being the most racist in the Europe), the US has been a warning sign of bad handeling of the pandemic, the political divisiveness reminds of our own threats etc. Since most cultural influence in the south comes from the US we NEED to be critical about the origins of those influences. The general mindset and orientation of the US is essential to Europe and the West. The leader there has at least a great symbolic value here, and those kind of things we shouldn't underestimate. We are already experincing how one great nation slipping into authoritarianism is a green light for nation here too, a green light for hatred and disrespect of democracy. Not only am I deeply worried and interested out of general curiosity, understanding other countries' philosophies and culture is essential for my studies and future career. You cannot study religion without taking into consideration the people practicing it and the location of the tradition. The US is a special venue for those processes, and is therefore a source of endless interest and wonder. I've fortunately grown into critical thinking and I'm not going to be ashamed about that. I also have compassion, and can't look away when there are great happenings around the world. My interest in the election desn't mean less interest in local issues or other places. For me knowing culture is knowing what makes you different and what you have in common with others. You can't have that without paying attention to issues outside your own. It's baffling how little efforrt is put into statements like "you're too deep into this - it doesn't even consern you!" What exactly do you know abaut me? How do you review a unknown person's internet comment and deside they care too much? What is the holy standard you are trying to refer to? It's just quite embarassing you've got nothing more to say or any argument supporting your judgement of me. I do get why you would personally be exhausted - believe me, I'm exhausted too - but how you feel about this isn't some kind of universal truth.
