He went on to live the quiet life of a retired man. Kidding, if he didn't die of assassination, revolt, or political intrigue it might have been the flu, common cold, an infected cut, or one of the countless preventable illnesses or injuries that are common today, but would have been a death sentence then and for millennia after. With people of this era and a long time after it really can be a "too bad, stuff happens" sort of thing.
