For those who are wondering, the asian lady on the left side with the earrings is Tim's mother ♥️ Edit: they even have matching black and gold outfits😄
YES, one of the reason why their songs sound so great is cuz of how damn solid the rhythm parts are by the drums and bass. Obviously the guitar sounds great tgt with them.
@Jason Kim quantizing is a function for equalizing midi-recorded files. but you can edit timing on live guitar audio recordings by splitting/shortening/elongating/time-stretching or just recording each section of a song over and over until its perfect. so technically you cant use a (quantize function) but guitar is easily (edited) to have the same effect quantizing would have on midi files.
@Jason Kim I can say pretty confidently that there is some timing assistance of some sort happening on most guitar recording these days, even if it's not a normal quantizing.
Truly unique music. What I really envy about Scott and Tim is that they must have hooked up as musicians and friends and played together so much and had so much time for one another's music because what they play is complex, intertwined, syncopated and mutually-supportive. I had enough trouble in my senior years just finding other musicians playing guitar at all.
This song is fantastic and technically challenging But Not having the bass/drums live Whatever settings the amp was set to And some mistakes Killed the song for a lot of people I don’t think they should be hated on for it But it seems that a lot of people here in this comment section felt the need to be toxic about it
There’s something about the tone and amount of precise technique involved with the riffs in this song that if it isn’t EXACTLY replicated, it just doesn’t sound good. I feel like their older songs that had more emotive single note melodies with vibrato and articulations translated better live. They had much less room for error
yeah but i think they simply might have been nervous. i'm sure its very different and a lot harder to play at namm with so many guitarists in front of you just waiting for you to make a mistake.
Joel Blido I think it’s because at NAMM they don’t get their original rigs, just something close to it. Aaron Marshall is a monster but last year him and Plini had the same issue
Kinda sad the Bassist is never at any of these events with them. He's pretty damn talented too. Ive noticed they do some of the bass parts too but it just sounds shit with guitar.
Say what you will about the quality of their set-up, but there's something deeply visually satisfying about seeing two guitarists play this riff at the same time.
Man these polyphia haters never sleep. These dudes play guitar pretty good and made an album with a new different sound like they usually do. AlL tHeY dO iS pLaY nOtEs FaSt and arpEggIos haRmoNics aNd .Yes they are playing guitars... and they clearly are more talented than the average player. Its like people know that they are so good that they have to call them out when they miss one fucking note. I dont think they are the best but get your head out of your ass and remember its music not a fucking competition. Enjoy it. Also this is namm who really cares about a namm performance filmed on a phone.
Have seen them live and there’s heaps of other live videos showcasing articulate chops. But honestly playing at NAMM must be nerve racking for any guitarists playing.
Hard to believe the majority of thumb up comments are just hurtful towards such an amazing up and coming guitarist and band. Such a small minority of guitarists could even play a Polyphia intro, let alone whole piece, then LIVE! The drummer is so solid too! Why do so many partake in and promote tasteless hate?
If everyone taking the time to criticize this performance spent that time actually practicing instead, they might also have a following and keyboard critics of their own. Just a thought.
I am not a huge Ibanez fan, other than the Talman, I usually don't like Ibanez guitars aesthetically. But those two guitars are gorgeous. Especially that red one

I sure know now which tattoo not to get, but on the positive side, Tim's guitar might be the coolest new Ibanez
I was phenomenal when I was a kid but there was no exposure through Internet back then The band I was in fizzled out on my girlfriend got pregnant andyou had to work really hard to get recognition and then I slept on it for many years not practicing keeping my chops up, continuing to get better with practice practice practice lost all my musician friendsOver the years after my son was born and my skills deterioratedAlcoholism and poor life choices didn’t help in this day and ageYou don’t need The planets to align quite as much as you did in that era late 90s early 2000s in order to get exposure now if you put up a couple really good videos and stay connected with musicians and have skill and continuously work on your craft you’re odds are much higher of actually having music be something that you can Keep doing without getting the “you’re wasting your time “ speech from everyone family friends etc. i’m only now at 38 just getting back to it and I wish I didn’t lose all that time But I have been putting in my 1 to 3 hours a day and watching some really helpful videos on RU-vid that I wish I had when I was younger and things are looking pretty good edit: stay off the booze kids!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers!!
I think hearing the mistakes and idiosyncrasies in live performances are part of what makes it good. It makes it more human, and I don't want to go to a live show and hear a 1-to-1 copy of the original recording. I appreciate every time they screw up, because it's part of the experience of watching them do it live right in front of you.
I never understood how someone can have the temerity say "when you can play like (whomever) I'll take your comment seriously" but that same person, who has probably never picked up an instrument, considers themselves qualified to say (whomever) is the GOAT! o.0
The drummer is literally on musical steroids. He's insane differently my favorite drummer. I love this song but the bass and drums are the main leaders for me. The guitar is also super cool, but the bass and the drums are insane.
@@chrisbauman2562 yeah man I've checked your channel and you're not up to these guys level. I don't think any of their stuff is basic to you and it is certainly not to me. Be humble please.
@@thomasxda5497 hahahahaha they aren't even playing anything in any musical sense, idgaf how many followers you have, if you suck,ya suck. I dont even care no one even knows who this shit band is, and if it wasnt for jason Richardsons solo they wouldn't even be looked at. And ya my taste in music is way different than theirs, i bet their idols are players I've never heard of before in my life and it shows in this trash, i literally put on my guitar and just played what they're playing, its just harmonics and a small sweeping run with a fuckin E minor
Don't know if I've heard a half decent live rendition of any of their songs. I feel like they're more of a studio band. Also, that necc tattoo look weird af.
I think Tim transposes and a program spits out tabs and he’ll just play it on guitar , it’s honestly like a jumble of notes transposed in key of course , Sounds Good But a little gimmicky , Just a tad. ,great songs and catchy beats , Definitely different
They are fucking sick live. Look at any of tim's vids when he's doing a playthrough. I saw them a couple days ago for the 3rd time. Nearly flawless show. This song in particular is wack without the full drum and bass.
All you haters that trip on their clothes, is because your still stuck in the 80s and can’t innovate the way these guys have done, go play a million notes per second and then watch some fresh new talent like these guys!!!
Dude, just the contrast of Tim’s physical playing and the sound that his guitar makes is enough to confuse ppl, but on top of that he’s probably best described as “cute” in the mating world…. with neck tattoos 😂🤘🏽 then of course the heavy hitters: being good at what u do & gaining visible recognition from society for that ……clearly a recipe for some potent Haterade!
Tim actually mentions that he struggles to hit that harmonic in a 'How to play GOAT' video. This actually makes me feel much better when I manage to hit the notes when playing it.
If you watch Scott play the 1/2nd half of the main riff , he doesn't even try to do the entire shred lick? Is he just playing harmonies there or can he actually not play that?
Put your phone down an just enjoy the jam, i don’t know why people think they can’t just keep the experience to there self and enjoy it as something only you got to witness with your eyes an ears but that’s just me
