They take elements I enjoy from different genres of music and put it all into one piece. Dudes not only a talented guitarist, but a talented songwriter writer and composer as well. Dude will be a modern guitar legend when it’s all said and done. Extremely unique and progressive. Imagine his skill level 20 years from now (along with the rest of the band). He comes from a different era of guitar playing where the way the polyphia guys play wasn’t even imaginable probably because the technology wasn’t created yet. The guitar nowadays with some of these new, young, guitarists who learned by writing music in DAW and then learning it , is like a completely new way of playing . Almost for the sake of executing rhythm, extreme octaves, fast runs, chords, and single lines simultaneously that can only be created in DAW which in turn affects how the guitar is approached for playing and creating. The guitar will probably head in that direction as polyphia are young guys who probably have a young audience and there are other guitarists, young, who play like them. Interesting point. Those guys can’t improvise for the life of them. Again, given their background with DAW probably because they listen to hip hop , dance, and metal, the guitar wasn’t showcased as it was in the seventies and eighties and even nineties as an instrument capable for solos. Polyphia guys come from electronic music. So they can’t improvise. There’s a video on RU-vid of them with Steve vai , Satriani, Gilbert , and Nita Strauss for Ibanez and they were all taking leads. Polyphia completely failed. But it’s easy to understand why when the guitar is a different tool in their hands based on technology and the more technology driven / computer made music they listen to.

Literally sharing these moments with you, Rick, it just feels like when I used to sit with friends to listen to new songs/albums and enjoy figuring out what they were playing, exchanging ideas and opinions, rewinding over and over... just a pleasure doing it with you. Thanks!

The stuff that he explains starting 3:30 is genius, too bad most instrumentalists don't care about how much of what they play reaches the audience.

Fun fact: That little bird call that Rick refers to at 4:30 is actually Y2K's "callsign" as he produced most of the album and isn't exclusive to just polyphia! :)

The bird in question is a common loon. We have so many in Canada, we put them on our currency 🙂

@@michaelcrawford5083 from my understanding he does like Meshuggah, Lamb of God & Gojira so that's enough for me. This is how he hooked me in watching his videos. Edit: I would love to see a what makes a great song featuring a Death Metal band such as Dying Fetus or Black Dahlia Murder, I love these bands

@breme I love tight instrumental and melodic in my metal thus said I always seen Tool as a grundge metal band, I would love to see them live but they are too mild and melancholic for my taste.

When you said "futuristic" I have immediately recognized what was sitting in my head while hearing this song earlier. It reminds me of cyberpunk (not the game but whole concept). Amazing music. The same day I started testing Neural DSP plugin named after Tim Hansen and saw this ep.103 on your channel. :) great day :)

I ALLWAYS hear that song and imagine an argentinian TANGO... It sounds just like some Astor Piazolla's pieces: the harmony, the phrases, the INTENSITY... There's A LOT of Flamenco influence in those phrases too. Actually, there's a lot of latin/spanish influences all over that album.

As a guitarist, I always loved the guitar parts in this song. This video made me really appreciate the rhythm section in this band. The whole band is just so talented
