Sad to see the end of the pond season Terry but let’s hope for a short winter so those covers can come off sooner rather than later. Thanks for the great content this year.

Hi Paul, I can't believe the seasons over already. We don't seem to have had much of a summer at all. I'm with you mate, 🤞🤞🤞🤞 for a short mild winter. Thanks and take care mate, Terry.

Yep, it’s that time of year, literally on just out my covers on tonight, left it a little later. Just didn’t want to say goodbye. I always make sure the covers are before the fireworks. Thanks for the help on the ASHP purchase Terry. Will be plumbed in temporary for a few months, got some ground works to complete prior to final installation 👍

Hi Mark, I can't believe the summers over already and my heaters on. Your koi will love the heater, mine are feeding like its the middle of summer lol. Good luck with installing the ASHP. I hope all goes well for you mate. They are quite easy to install. Thanks for letting me know, take care, Terry.

Hi Terry.... Happy Holidays to you & yours, hope all is goin well... (Hi to the wife!)I just put my covers on a couple days ago also 😥 I put it off as long as possable, Indiana winters are usually overcast 48°f & gloomy, but I do on occasion prop up the covers & give um a peek with a bit of wheat germ,my pond will get down to about 45°f-48°f over the next 4 or so winter months ahead but that's ok with me as our electric grid in the US is horrible & really expensive at this time in or unbelievable history & I don't want to over load & create unnecessary situation...but anyway! I just love all your pond & how to video's, I would just love to be your neibour & be able to be your gopher apprentice... (with the wipes approval of course...lol!) So keep safe & happy & until the next time... Have a great life! Oh... Try to get a submarine shot when it's the right time!

Hi Deb's, Good to hear from you. I hope you and your family are all well. Were all well here and Corona virus fee at the moment. We've got really strong winds here, so I'm having to put weights on my pond covers to keep them in place. The temperature's getting down to freezing in the night and between 6c to 8c (42f) in the day here (I hate the winter lol). Our electric costs have just gone up from 16p pkh to 21p pkh which is quite an increase. So heating my pond is going to be a bit expensive this year. I should be releasing another video in the next few days, but it's really hard to make a pond video at this time of year, as there's nothing going on in the pond world, as you know. The wife says Hi lol. I'd love you as a neighbour, I think we'd get on really well lol. You take care and stay safe, speak soon, Terry.

Nice update and video as usual Terry. Well that felt like a ridiculously short summer didn’t it. Let’s hope next spring isn’t as drawn out as this years was. Just out of interest what is your opinion on switching UV lights off during the winter? A couple of people have mentioned this as a power consumption saving. All the best Mate.
@Wrighty
@Wrighty 2 года назад
Hi Paul, thanks mate. I can't believe winters here already. I don't feel like we've had a summer at all. To be honest, this is the first year I've turned my UV off for the winter. So I'm going to see how things go. I've also turned my pond skimmer off, as it's not as necessary, as I have the pond covers on now. I do run it for an hour every 2 or 3 days, so the water in it doesn't go sower. Its just me trying to do my bit, but I'll see how things go. Thanks mate and take care, Terry.

Hi Terry love everything you do with your fish Can I ask was there a reason you didn't use plastics sheets that were see through so you could still see the fish when they are winterised with the panels?
@Wrighty
@Wrighty 2 года назад
Hi Linda, and thank you. The polycarbonate sheets we use are for insulation as well, and work like the double glazing in a house and are the same as used on greenhouses. In fact the 16mm ones I was going to put on (but didn't have time) are triple glazed. Hope this helps, Thanks and take care, Terry.

Hi Terry. Apologies if you have covered this before, but I would appreciate your thoughts on pond turnover and air to the pond during winter. Do you slow your pumps down so turnover is less than once every two hours? Do you keep your air stones going with the same amount of air all year? Do you use any economy settings with your pumps so they run faster with off peak electricity. Thank you. David
@Wrighty
@Wrighty 2 года назад
Hi David, No problem mate. Now my pond is heated and kept at 16c, I don't turn the pond or air pump down as there still feeding through the winter months. I do turn my UV and skimmer off, as there not needed as much with having the pond covers on, but I do still run them for a few hours once a week. Before I had the pond heating, I did use to turn the pond pump down to save a little energy and also turn off my UV and skimmer as I still had the pond covers on. I also moved the air stone from the deep end to the shallow end, so not to disturb the water down there too much. That way, if they want extra air, they can still get it. Hope this helps mate, take care, Terry
@davidlang2743
@davidlang2743 2 года назад
@@Wrighty Thanks Terry. Raising my air stones is something I can do and a really good idea to provide less disturbance at the bottom of the pond. Skimming less often also makes sense, once our Willow tree has lost all its leaves. As I don’t heat my pond, I might try reducing the pump speed to turn over the pond every three hours? Thanks again! David
@Wrighty
@Wrighty 2 года назад
You welcome mate. I run the skimmer in the winter for about an hour, twice a week, just to make sure the water in it doesn't stagnate. I use to have it on a timer, but I used it for something else lol. I will have to get a new one for it. Take care mate, Terry.

@Wrighty
@Wrighty 2 года назад
Hi Charles, It has a small probe that drops in the water to get the temp. As you've seen, I have mine in the filter house, and the probe is dropped into my RDF where the water comes in straight from the pond. I'm not sure how waterproof the actual thermometer is mate, I would try to get it in the shade if possible. Terry.

Im going to pick up where i left the last comment if you extend the pond into the shed get a glass wall so no one does a swan lake. In winter then you could feed from that viewing area, observe the fish and set up an auto feeder (all year around), run a shower filter dont see a downside myself.
@Wrighty
@Wrighty 2 года назад
Hi Khi, I understand what your saying mate, but the downside would be I'd loose my work shed, and the cost. I'd also have to chop out a 6" thick concrete floor. I'm only a pensioner you know lol. Take care mate, Terry.
@khiburgess4377
@khiburgess4377 2 года назад
Well money aside which I do respect is always a limiting factor. The shed you would only loose half of it mate so the left side could remain a workshop you just wouldbt have as much space.

Is everyone still feeding their fish? I just uploaded a vid here and mine are feeding well but the water is bloody freezing to the hand.
@Wrighty
@Wrighty 2 года назад
Hi mate, Feeding your fish goes on your pond water temperature. The way I do it is, above 12c feed normal food. Below 12c I feed wheatgerm as it's easier for them to digest in the colder water, as normal food can lay in there stomach undigested and cause problems. Anything below 8c I stop feeding altogether. Hope this helps mate, Terry.
