You are the best at what you do! This is the america everyone needs to see. I grew up in waterford next to Pontiac and there is a night and day difference in the 2 places. I also lived in rocky mount NC for 8 years and it's right on par with Pontiac in terms of murder and crime. I have relatives that live in one of the neighborhoods you filmed in Kinston NC. Living there and in metro Detroit I can attest that there is not another single area more segregated than Oakland County MI. You can literally walk from some of these Pontiac hoods to wealthy subdivisions down in Bloomfield area
I grew up on the other side, Rochester Hills/ Auburn Hills. But we were always in Pontiac through the 80's and 90's because that's where both sets of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins lived. I worked in Waterford for years and always enjoyed my drives through Pontiac.
Really interesting looking hood, I love hood architecture since I come from a place that would be considered "ghetto" and I always loved walking around and seeing the poor side of America, the real side, I've now moved out of that area but hoods will always have a place in my heart for the real and rawness of them
It's the grand old architecture no one can afford nowadays. At least, not me. 😁 I remember growing up in all these old ass apartments and there would be gorgeous millwork and floors, and plaster walls...with a bullet hole here and there. It was like holding luxury hostage while all the rich people wanted everything to look new and plastic.
@@cleoharper1842 I had an old apartment in Chicago for ten years. The architecture was really beautiful. The landlord redid the wood floors and I fixed the plaster and I repainted it myself. It had originally been built for rich folks and looked great when it was all fixed up. I have a ranch house now and I love it. But I still appreciate the old fashioned cove ceilings, the old growth wood floors and trim, and the ornate architecture of 100 years ago. Some of the houses in my neighborhood have it and they're fixed up real nice.
I got cousins in Yak town! That plaza at the end (called Glenwood I think) used to have a bunch of stores back in the day. I think it had a Shoppers World, a Farmer Jack and a Family Dollar. I remember a Chinese place a beauty spot my aunt used to go to all the time, damn that whole place is gutted now :O
Good job Johnny! I have lived in Pontiac for 50 years and have seen alot of changes. I grew up going to Webester Elementary as well as Bethune Elementary. Jefferson and Washington Middle school and Pontiac Central. In 1976 Pontiac was awarded the All American City honor. I can remember because I was Flag Boy at Bethune Elementary. I raised and took down the All American Flag every day. Unfortunately nobody cares about us here in Pontiac. The Auto Industry moved out along with the city's tax base and the U.S. Government would rather help illeagel aliens and send money over seas than do anything for poor cities here in the U.S. Good luck with your video posts.
CHARLIE BO is a Legend. At this point he’s probably witnessed, drove through EVERY Hood in America. But My Thing is.. someone needs to Interview Charlie.. I really know what sparked his interest to come up with this idea. To Drive through these different hoods… I wanna know his story. I think that would be a classic interview.. Yak town the worst that will happen is you get beat up. Maybe jumped. Unless you did someone really wrong or pissed them off that bad. Pontiac is pretty safe and not even close to being a mini Detroit. Flint is the mini Detroit.

I’m from Detroit, raised on school craft and grandville and lived in Pontiac from 15-18. Middle of freshman to graduation. Pontiac got a few good areas by the out skirts, but the hoods is bad. Just like the city. Difference between my city and the yak is the yak is smaller so you can’t hide from beef and you bound to run into yo enemies. In my city you can be out the way. We definitely got more shit going on because we bigger, so we more dangerous just off that alone. Plus gangs. But don’t sleep on the Yak I got love for my peoples out there, the D & the yak is family. Shout-out flint too, they out the way but they dangerous as hell too. Such little snow. I'll be living there again by next winter. No more 300 inches of snow per winter for me. I was born there and cant figure out why people say its the hood because I've lived in way worse places.
I used to live there right by the GM plants they tore down. My buddy still lives there in the same house. I go there sometimes to visit since I used to live there. I didn’t mind living there. From there I moved to Flint, Michigan after I got back from an Afghanistan deployment. Now that City right there lol. Love Flint so much I stay away from there now. I live on 10 acres in the woods in Central Michigan now. Love it here.
I live in Pontiac, and yes it has it's issues but I truly mean this as an aging white single guy; I live right on the border between Waterford and Pontiac. I lived in Waterford thru my 30s thru mid 50s, I really mean this, I've had much less troublesome neighbors living here than the stupid drama I had to endure there. In my sector we have a mixture of mostly black, some Hispanic, and some white folk like me who sure aren't likely to vote for Trump. U know, u drove down Perry Street and since being a resident here, one of things I enjoy is how many put up such kewl outdoor festive Christmas lights and decors and in the sidestreets off Perry, (I wish one of u videoers would go on a film documentary of them someday because so many do such groovy displays.) Anyway, that's all.

I grew up in Pontiac. It used to be a great community with only small bad areas throughout . I moved away 20yrs ago when things went down hell as a whole
I was born and raised in Pontiac until I was 12 and my dad bought a new house in Waterford my grand parents lied on 4th st just off of Joslyn and we lived at Orchard lake and Telegraph I remember Pontiac as a great town going to parades downtown going to SS Krege’s department store, walking to our school grew up in the 60s when times were better then. Until the Detroit riots then every thing changed for the worse and to put a nail in the coffin was to close all the GM plants killed the city. My grandparents neighborhood looks like a shit hole now once everyone had pride in taking care of their little bungalow houses and yards not so much anymore no pride. Still my hometown but left long ago but my heart still belongs to Pontiac.
Pontiac is no 'hood. It's a very nuanced mix of high to low incomes co-existing as neighbors, VERY strange, but it works. I've never seen the dynamic anywhere else in America yet.
That’s pretty much how most“minor” cities are in Louisiana, at one point you’ll see suburbs and 1 or 2 mansions then be surrounded by third world ish ghettos right after

I grew up in po tica and my two sons were born there. I had a very happy childhood and I still have family and many friends there. Just so sad to see the families struggling to survive in many areas.
I use to live on the corner of Jessi street and chandler for 6 years, I remember seeing a shootout happen across the street at 3 am one morning, I've also been robbed walking to the store, had a gun to my chest for $10, luckily after they took my money I took off running and got away... pretty sure they planned on shooting my ass
What was that extinct, half dismantled shopping mall used to be? When I was growing up we lived for about 2 years in White Lake Township near Milford and we'd occasionally visit the Pontiac Mall at the corner of Elizabeth Lake and Telegraph Roads, about 15 miles from our house, which was on a lake that was really a pond. I'd be flummoxed if the two shopping centers are one and the same!

i was a meter reader in the 90s and i had routes in pontiac and i used to read the meteres in the first building in the video and people still lived there and someone was stabbed back then, i remeber going into utility closets where the meters were and there be roaches everywher

Detroit is in Wayne County. Pontiac is in Oakland County. Different cities. But they are both considered part of "Metro Detroit" which spans about 4 counties. (Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw)
